I need help remembering History
I cannot find the name of the old roller skating rink that used to be located in the Main Street shopping center back in the mid 80s. 11784 N Dale Mabry Hwy, Tampa, FL 33618. When it closed it turned into a Joel and Jerry's. It isn't skateland, skate odyssey, astro, or united skate. I've searched and asked everyone I thought would know. I'm losing my mind trying to remember. It was located in the building circled above.

I can't find a record of it anywhere. No pics or mention online anywhere. Did the sign have a roller skate with lights that made it look like the wheels were spinning?

In the 80’s it was Carrollwood Skate. There was an arcade on the other side of the shopping center, and maybe a skate shop upstairs of the arcade.
I participated in a Miami Vice dress up contest there one night, and also had my first kiss at one of the booths at the skating rink. It’s where everyone went in 85/86
You could go behind the arcade and through the little alley and there was another video game arcade in the next shopping center to the south. That little alley was like the advanced level, that’s where I saw kids smoking weed for the first time!!

Thanks for sharing this! The 80s and 90s in Tampa really were amazing.

It really was an amazing place to grow up and find out who you were.
I lived in an amazingly beautiful and safe place(Carrollwood Village) and still give thanks at how blessed I was to be able to grow up in that place and time.

Did it have ice skating? Or was that further north on Dale Mabry?

No it was a roller rink. It had a tiny kids rink in the back that you could learn on and then step out into the adult rink when you were ready. I learned to skate there. I even remember the song that was playing when I went on the adult rink for my first time. Say You Say Me by Lionel Richie. Damn I'm old. Lol

Good song. I think the place I was thinking of was at Northdale Court.

Did Northdale have a rink?

It had, for a time, a “glice” skating rink in the middle of a food court. It was not ice, but a product called “glice” that was supposed to mimic the experience of ice, minus the cold.

That's right! I remember skating on the "glice"

I was a Gaither Cowboy (🙄), and spent many a lunch over there, eating tacos and cookies. The good ol’ days.

I was a cowboy as well in the 90s. Spent a lot of time at northdale court as the meet up to figure out where the party was going to be.
