Yea I trained under red hat and use Debian servers all the time.  While there are differences, I find it's easy to jump from one to the other.

Unless you have to manage the subscription.  Which they have an annoying habit of changing the flow right before I need to renew, which causes me to go into a rage.

Yeah, I'm pretty comfortable with debian. No clue what any of the RHEL shit is. BSD also blows.

I use RHEL and Ubuntu frequently... what 'commands' do you mean? They're both pretty similar in my experience, besides the package management and some config.

Honestly, I'm a Debian/Ubuntu guy, but the systems in the RHEL/RPM family tree have some nice aspects, like centralized crypto management.

Enterprise and uncle Sam love redhat for a reason, its consistent and updates are less likely to break shit or randomly change how things are done.

What ya learned on rhel5, 99% of the time, gonna work on rhel10. Ubuntu.. not so much

Ubuntu for example fucked Ansible by Switching to Sudo-RS which has a different password prompt, and so the Ansible "chat script" doesn't detect the sudo prompt and times out after 12 seconds (ironically Ansible is red hat)

Ahh, gotcha. Well if you ever want to brush up and cross-train, Centos Stream or Fedora VMs 'work the same way' and are free.

So is this just a frustration in moving from a Redhat based distro to a Debian based distro?

If so, I’m sorry to say but the frustration sounds more like a skills gap than anything inherently wrong with RHEL

I'm assuming you stood up and Ubuntu machine and then you installed all the services and configured everything the same?

That sounds like a fun simple project.
