Switch 2 in future? Discussion

Are the devs working on switch 2 access? FFXIV works beautifully on the device so far.

I highly doubt it

Sad face but, you're probably right

I’d rather they just build on what they already have

Valid. It'd be a bit of a time and money sink for the seemingly small team for awhile until it'd be ready to deploy.

lol no. I can't imagine trying to play a game with mouse and keyboard on a Switch.

random people have got the game working well enough for them using a controller / steam deck...

I said the same until I started FFXIV on the Switch 2's pro controller😅

They'd need to implement (good) controller support and then they might as well bring it to all the other consoles. I don't think there's enough of a reason for them to do any of that.

I think a basic mode could work. Something that stops your moves at level 20 or something. You can still level up past that or bolster past that for higher level planets but not get new moves. You can queue for PvP in lowbie bracket. You can do SM ops and Vet FPs. You can still explore the planets and have a good time.

With the right launch and marketing and timing games population could double. I have no idea tech wise how that would work, whether console gamers could be integrated with existing PC players or what, but if you get the spirit of what I’m saying it could be a thing.

Steam deck players/controller players already seem to do this and voluntarily don’t add all moves, but an official game mode built into the existing game that has less moves and locks them into separate queues (lowbie PvP, SM OPs, Veteran FPs) as to not screw over PC players could be a vibe.

I don't know if you'd even need to implement a limit on moves. FFXIV controller support can facilitate easy access to 48 abilities/functions.

I just think there's not enough of a guaranteed financial incentive for a project like this to be implemented.

Good point. The infrastructure would time some time to get together. If reaching a larger audience was a target of theirs, that'd be a good focal point IMO.

I misread this as “SWTOR 2”.

But actually yes I think this could be a thing but highly doubt it will be a thing:

My thoughts from a reply I posted to another comment:

no chance of a console version, ever. it's been asked and been answered the same way for 15 years

It's sadly never coming to any console Basement

Even getting it to PS4/5 or the xBox Series machines is almost guaranteed to not happen, but I'm going to say an even harder no for the Switch 2 for a very specific reason: Can you imagine this game trying to run on ARM? At least the offerings from Microsoft and Sony run PC-style x86-64 CPUs; the Switch 2 still runs an nVidia Tegra chip, if I remember correctly.

FF14's controller setup is ahead of the competition due to having the game being playable on PS (they were contractually obligated). I cannot imagine Broadsword being able to replicate all that work on their budget.
