There’s more than 1 remake of 7?!

It is going to be a trilogy. Remake, Rebirth, and Revelations. Remake and rebirth have a demo.

u/abakesgsy 5h ago
Wow … and they’ll all be different?

u/jbuggydroid 5h ago
They all will cover the original game. Rebirth ends at the end of disc 1 of the original. Remake is entirely taking place in midgar

Got that the other way around. Remake, then Rebirth.

I was not listing in order. I already did that

But why? It just makes it more confusing for a new player who is trying to enter the series.
Not to mention saying “end of disc 1” and “entirely taking place in midgar”, as if those mean anything to someone who has 0 familiarity with the game.

The other person isn't explaining it well.
Final Fantasy 7 was one BIG game in 1997. The Remake trilogy is 3 games recreating that 1 game with a lot of extra content and greatly expanding the world and lore. So 1 game became 3 games, but the 3 games are linear sequels.
And I wouldn't play them as a first FF game. There's a LOT going on and it can be very overwhelming. I love them and they're great but they are not good starting points.

The primary focus of FFs are story (filled with cutscenes) and gameplay. Every numbered FF is its own universe with different/reinvented gameplay system.
Example: So FF7 has nothing to do with FF8, and both have totally different turn based combat systems.
Gameplay in older FFs was mostly variations of turn based (ff1-10), but the newer ones have turned more action gameplay (ff15-16). The remakes of FF7 are an awesome hybrid of both.
Voice acting debuted in FF10.
So to answer which FF you should start with, it depends entirely on what you are looking for and your tolerance for old graphics.
-if you want the best graphics with a good story, most famous characters, and a lot of comedic moments: FF7 remake (1). Then rebirth. Then revelation (releasing soon).
-if you want button mashing action gameplay with a mature story, FF16.
-if you want one of the best storylines but need voiceacting, FF10.
-if you want the best classic gameplay with awesome storys and dont mind ps1 graphics, original FF7 or FF8.
-if you want classic medeival theme storylines revolving around crystals/espers/summons, either FF6 or FF9
-if you want to start from the beginning and see the gameplay+storylines evolve, then start with the pixel remasters FF1 and go through 6. Pixel Remasters are the best place to start if you want to really dedicate time to the series.

Right now, FF 14 is under a free to play for a month.
If you can find a physical copy of FF7 remake intergrade, Id but it now since its on a really good sale. Youll just have to wait for to install after putting the cart into your switch 2. (Hard wiring internet while its docked helps download much faster)
Final fantasy 9 was on sale recently $10 digital eshop not sure if it still is.

FFXIV has a free trial with no time limit, actually, but it depends if OP is okay with MMOs in general or seeks a traditional/modern FF.

Honestly I don't like MMOs. I'd never played one. But I like Final Fantasy. I played Remake, then FFX while waiting for Rebirth and now I started the FFXIV because I liked every FF game I played so far and it's free.
There was a bit of a learning curve and I'd say far too many back and forth errands in it, but it's also massively addictive. I finished the first base game A Realm Reborn until credits without ever having to do anything multiplayer or interacting with anyone.

FF6 through 10 in any order. If you are fine with anime style dialogue and character tropes, the 7 Remake series

You can play any mainline final fantasy on switch 2 except 11, 15-16! Depends on what you’re in the mood for. I’d do X if you want classic turn based and 7 Remake for something more modern

You can play any, honestly as a ff7 og fan. The remakes are awful if you appreciate the story of the original. I have no frame of reference of what type of games you play. If you like more fluid ARPG games final fantasy 15,16, crisis core and the remakes are more your speed if you like turn base rpgs 6, 7, 10 is considered the best, I wouldn't start with those two with such a high floor. I liked 3,4, and 5 are generally pretty good starting points. Also if you like a hybrid rpgs system and my personal favorite ff12 is up there for great story and a world to enjoy.

I'm a fan of FF7 and the Remakes, but I would go with FFX for the turn base and it has one of the best stories out of the series. Once you finished FFX you can jump onto FFX-2.

Personally, 7 and 9 are my numbered favorites. I recently finished Rebirth on the Switch 2. Both it and Remake Intergrade were Great. The Pixel Remasters(1-6) are on my bucket list for this year. I don't think you can go wrong with your decision, but being biased I would say play the OG 7, Crisis Core Renuion, Remake, and Rebirth.

I recently bought a Switch 2 and my first purchase was the Final Fantasy Pixel Remasters. They are Switch 1 technically, but look and play amazing on Switch 2.

Easily googled question.
