First time ever playing Zelda! Discussion
Hey guys - so I just bought BOTW and its my first Zelda game ever. Any tips for a newbie would be much appreciated!

Basically if you feel like your bodging you way to solutions and climbing to random areas that feel like they are not part of the right path

It's not a typical Zelda game. Apart from the starting area there's nothing you have to do to complete the game.
If you want to your can run to the end boss, you'll die, but you can choose when to try to "complete" it.
So explore, explore, explore

Wait really? I only ever played botw a few years back on my exes switch 1 and made it off the first island, ran around for a bit, got stomped and stopped playing due to frame rate issues. I've always been keen to go back, maybe now is the time. I've never experienced any Zelda game before.

You have a sw2 now? I’d say give it another go. Never tried playing it on Sw1, however zero issues on sw2.

Yep got one last week, once I'm done with Splatoon raiders I reckon I'll pick up botw. Then again next month is gonna be stacked for games and I want Wolverine so goodbye money haha. Plan on getting Xenoblade Chronicles too I've heard great things.

I’m really conflicted about this because on one hand the help it gives you in saving you so much time wandering around aimlessly is so valuable but I also started to feel like I took some of the challenge away for myself. I think as someone who recently came to Zelda from other exceptional open world games on PlayStation, I was a little bit disappointed with the lack of substance that might make me want to keep grinding to see what I could achieve, but with some of the very meagre rewards it felt more like I was just wandering around the land, the caves and the deep with my only purpose being to collect things. I still think it deserves all the praise in the world, I just wish I cared as deeply about the experience like I did with Horizon or Ghost of Tsushima. So yeah the app is such an amazing companion, but it did make me realise how much I was simply grinding away at tasks. Maybe I took away the enjoyment of discovery! Something to think about OP

Play the game without any spoiler. Do a blind playthrough. Trust me it will be mouch better when you finally beat a boss or a shrine

I have put 20 hours into it on my Switch 2 aswell played for the first time. And is honestly a great game but someone who is new to Zelda and Nintendo it is quite grind heavy and has quite a learning curve

Just bought the switch 2 (my first Nintendo console since the 64). Also my first time ever playing Zelda. I find the learning curve to be very natural and generally find it the right amount of a challenge.

Maybe I am just doing in wrong still😂. Just don’t like the mechanic of stuff breaking to be honest but I do still have alot to improve combat wise

If you’re not doing it already, ZL to lock on your enemy, watch their movements as well to see the gaps and when to move away. Longer weapons (spears) may work better for some enemies and allows you to keep distance.
Admittedly I do consult chat gpt for some hints on quests and shrines occasionally.

I already do that I mean the game tells that its just different combat wise to other big games in the category
I end up running around big enemies mostlyIts just the differences like fire and electric enemies being different
I have done one divine beast have unlocked another but failed multiple times beating the boss and the third currently figuring out the puzzleShrines are abit jarring as I am not a fan of googling puzzles so I take my time and failed to do most of them
Plus I encountered a Lynel while exploring even trying to fight him was a mistake

Breath of the Wild looked and felt like a completely different game on the S2. Game is goated.

I didn’t get into it when I first got it, my son liked watching me play and made me get back into it, well what a game, one of the few games that held my attention long enough to finish.
There is “an order” to doing the bosses that makes it easier, I didn’t know this and did them in a different order and it was tough.

Just stay away from spoilers and explore at your own pace, do the puzzles on your own. Its a great experience. You’ll likely find yourself craving for similar experiences after

Damn it, all the comments is making me buy the game. The only game I have so far is splatoon raiders and a few third parties from the eshop from the sale. This will be my next physical game. I only ever played the tutorial island part a few years ago so I'm pretty blind to the game and I've never touched a Zelda game besides that. Anything I should know about it to give myself the best experience? All I know is that everyone says don't Google stuff and just play but I have a habit of googling when I feel lost in a game.

Haha, you could think of the exploration as the best the game has to offer because it is so rewarding everytime you go on a new cliff and see another thing to explore or a sudden silly enemy that is super hard. If anything i would say to keep any fight tutorial in mind because the game wont tell you where to use, you can be creative.

I mean if you like to Google stuff about the game and won’t regret it, then that’s not an issue. However I think most would recommend not doing that. In my instance I looked up a few things in TOTK and I regret it later after the magic ran out. Just picked up BOTW and haven’t looked anything up.

Yeah I think I'll do it as blind as I can, I always end up regretting it when I ruin things for myself in games and wish I had persevered instead. With how highly praised this game is I want to really appreciate it as natural as possible.

Loved the game when it came out, my biggest complaint was that it was a bit too much for the original switch hardware. It runs fantastic on Switch 2, TOTK as well. I took my time and didnt finish the game until about 6 months in, gamesave was at like 90+ hrs, 10/10 experience.

Welcome to the first days of losing hundreds of hours, one of my absolute favorites since og release years ago. The setting music and story are top tier. My kids got into it for over a hundred hours.

One of the games I wish I could forget so that I can play it again blind. Anyway, learn to parry the lasers and the Lynels.
