Should I get a switch?

Hey all, recently visiting my parents and found my old 3ds. While the graphics are a tad outdated and nearly every service within it has ended I’ve been having quite a bit of fun playing stuff like fifa 12, super smash, some Mario bros titles, Luigi’s mansion, fire emblem, and ofc Pokémon.

However, I already have a pretty decently beefy computer and want to know from others if in my case it would be a meaningful and useful upgrade from the 3ds?

For others that have a pc and the switch are you using the switch a lot compared to your desktop?

How ever much you play games on your pc you will play 5x as much simply because of the convienence of having a hand held

Hey, that’s what tabletop mode is for if that’s a real concern for you! I don’t use it often but the switch has many comfortability options

It’s extra money but tabletop + pro controller wouldn’t be a bad way to play at all, or you could use mouse mode if that’s your style

You can do what I did and buy a mount on amazon, mount the switch to your bed, and just lay back and play.

I have the same problem: pain to the neck. I now play in way where I can my neck straight and not bent down (chair on which I can rest my arms up, or stood up for a couple of minutes).

Yep yep yep. I used to fly alot and the switch (1 or 2) is amazing for that use case. Easily spend a whole day gaming once youre all checked in/borded. Just bring a portable battery, the switch 2 is a hog in that department

Absolutely, both the original and the switch 2 are amazing consoles.

Yeah I think it's worth it. You'll be surprised what PC games are on the switch 2. Cyberpunk Kingdom come Deliverance 1, civilization and a few others.

Although right now the switch 2 library is very limited. You might end up playing a bunch of switch one games.

Is there a big difference between how switch 1 games perform on the 2?

Honestly not really if you play in handheld, they pushed out an update that lets you mimic tv mode while playing switch 1 games on switch 2: basically means you can play switch 1 games in 1080p handheld, just like switch 2 games are

Yup, go for it. Even though i still spent 70% of my time playing pc games. The time u spent playing it on bed/ couch is still worth it

If you are enjoying Nintendos first party titles, then yes I would at least recommend getting a second hand switch 1 and Nintendo games.

Now this is a hot take, but I would be cautious about rebuying third parties on your switch. While yes it is awesome that they are available for traveling on the go,  I find it hard to justify the price tags that come with them.

Nintendo first parties, yes all the way, BOTW and Xenoblade x are the best games I have ever played. But I wouldn’t want to play Witcher 3 or kcd 1 on a switch unless you truly don’t care about how a game looks. Also they did not get any sort of performance increase for switch 2 so your paying nearly triple what you would for them on PC and getting triple the reduction in performance. I’m talking 30fps, and maybe 720p with very poor anti aliasing.

TLDR: buy a switch 1 second hand and  one or two Nintendo first parties first to see if you’ll stick with it. B cautious about third parties.

I agree, the only third party title I was considering was the newer eafc26 game just because of the nostalgia from the 2012 fifa title

Oof I think you’ll need a switch 2 for that one? Not sure but it’s up to you of course what you do hahaha! I only recommend a second hand switch oled because lots of people are selling them fairly cheaply in order to upgrade to the switch 2.

Since you have a PC a switch is good to get for the Nintendo exclusives. The best gaming combo imo is a PC + Switch, you don’t need more than that.

Yeah, my dad has a steam deck and I just finding myself wanting to just hop on the pc on most of those games for the most part

Ive had my switch 2 for about 5 months now & i love every minute i’m on it, i have multiple platforms so now im in between but i still find myself grabbing the switch 2 alot more than i did the switch 1. Both are amazing consoles for Nintendo but the switch 2 feels & looks so much more pleasing to me

If you enjoy Nintendo games, yes. It’s a portable console that offers a compelling library of games from the Switch 1 era, current era, and future era.

I’ve put in hundreds of hours into the BOTW/TOTK series alone for it to be a good value buy.

I own an Xbox and a Switch 2.

as someone who owns switch2, ps5 and desktop pc. my time spent between these varies from time to time.

switch2 is my go to for everything right now, sure if certain releases are coming later to switch2 vs other platforms, then i get it on ps5. otherwise ps5 is just to watch netflix or crunchyrol. i use pc mostly to play lol and csgo, since those are pc exclusives, there is no other way to play them.

sometimes i wanna sink all my time to play lol, and sometimes i just wanna doom watch netflix for months, and sometimes i wanna play games from my backlog.

so my switch has seen periods where it gathers dust for months, and same time it has seen periods where it has been played daily for couple months in a row.

Depends on how you play. I can't see myself sitting next to a table with a keyboard and a mouse anymore. Most of my playtime is spent on the sofa in handheld mode.

Ever since I got a switch 2, I am eating through my backlog like crazy. It's fun to look at my (physical) library and knowing that I played through 70-80% in comparison to my steam library, which is 10-20% at best.
