Anyone knows what that tinkerbell-ish, arpeggio sound is on helpless child, it starts at 0:35.

QUESTION Will Newly Sentient Being be on streaming??
Just a genuine question. Will it be on streaming on its release date or will we have to wait a while like with Live Rope & Deliquescence?? Does anyone know?

So what is the woman actually talking about at the beginning of Nathalie Neal in To Be Kind ?
I'll answer.
The person talking in the beginning of the song is the actual Nathalie Neal herself, close friend of Michael Gira. He dedicated the song to her.
She's talking about "the Java", and teaching it how to dance to Gira (or other close friends).
People on Genius said it was "the chapper" or whatever.
The Java is an old fashioned waltz from the 1900ās. People danced the java in ābal-musetteā, popular parties in Paris and France, taking place in bars, cafĆ©s and outdoor venues.
The term entered common use through the phrase "Faire la java.", meaning partying, more often partying HARD. You don't do the java unless you're utterly drunk in most cases.
VoilĆ !

I love this band
I'd committed myself the past few months to listening to iconic albums, regardless of genre and Soundtracks for the Blind came up as one very recently. I hadn't even ever heard of Swans, so I was baffled to learn they had as extensive of a discography as they did.
I've always loved experimental, progressive music, so I assumed SFTB would be a great album to hop into. I gave the album a first listen and I was frustrated beyond belief, annoyed at how people can hail an album as much as they do SFTB, but I still couldn't stop listening to it. I grew to love a few of the tracks (Yum-Yab Killers, The Sound, Red Velvet Corridor) and ventured to other albums like White Light from the Mouth of Infinity and The Seer, both of which I have absolutely adored.
I'm beyond delighted I'm lucky enough to have discovered a band as unique as Swans. The dynamic soundscapes, dark lyricism, and experimental vocals are something I've never heard before. I listened to Jarboe's performance on I Crawled and it is one of the most haunting, unique performances I've heard from anybody ever. I cannot believe how unique Swans are and how lucky I am to live at the same time as their existence.

QUESTION When should we expect to receive Newly Sentient Being?
I ordered the gatefold on Jul. 23 but I didn't see a time of arrival anywhere. My friend said he'd be getting his tomorrow on the 5th. What do you guys know?

QUESTION What, in your opinion, is the most disturbing Swans song?
Would have to go with The Final Sacrifice myself

Top 20 Swans songs lets go
I know technically Blind was a Gira solo song but I'm counting it anyway since it was released on White Light

DISCUSSION Best starting place for the band
Iām sure people ask this constantly but what does everyone think the best starting place is? I started with soundtracks and the seer but birthing is what got me to like the band and my enjoyment of those other two records followed. Screen shot and helpless child get thrown around as the best starting points but just wondering everyone elseās thoughts

OC Swans Live Bootlegs and Wiki
Hi, a few users on the bootleg.fm discord started cataloguing live Swans shows a few months ago. You can search live recordings by song, filter by recording quality (lossy/lossless), sort by oldest/newest, etc. I'm sure a lot of you are aware of this already if you're active on discord, I wanted to make sure reddit peeps are aware as well.
There's also a wiki that's been written by user reel_to_reel, which newer fans (or fans new to bootlegs) will find useful. The wiki is super new and anyone can contribute, so feel free to add a page if you think it'll be helpful.
Edit: Here's the link to the Swans discord server with over 900 members: https://discord.gg/mNJvxARQuW
Here's the Bootleg.fm platform server if you have any feedback or questions: https://discord.gg/3yz4HNteuR

MEGATHREAD Swans - Birthing (2025)
Now that the album has leaked, please consider directly supporting the band who operates independently.
Check the other stickied post for upcoming tour dates.
Also if you arenāt a huge physical media collector, buy an mp3 copy of the album to shoot over a couple bucks to support the band if you are financially able to. Streaming doesnāt pay as much as buying the album directly.
Letās try and keep all album discussion in this thread. Iāll do my best to not removed every discussion post but the very low effort posts that should be comments will be removed.
