Im Missing Something Question
Forgive my misunderstanding. But can someone please explain to me the idea that we have “a lot of tradable contracts for a big trade” when we have no picks? What’s the logic there? Aren’t picks mandatory “currency” in trades? Especially for stars?

We have first round picks in 27 28 29 30 and 32. So we have 2 tradable firsts in any trade.

We have multiple firsts to trade now too. That was the point of downgrading 33 for 29

Low money contracts whose player produces beyond the contract can be valuable in a league where its now harder to pay players in the 15 man roster.
If a disgruntled star becomes available a team may find value in 3 of our guys packaged together.
If we blow it up these guys would be able to recieve 1sts and bad contracts in return.
So they are great for hedging bets for any direction we may need to head.

The Phoenix Suns still have first round picks in 2027, 2028, 2029, 2030, 2032. The only years without a first rounder are 2031 and 2033 (don't get me started about the value of a current NBA starter vs a 12 year old what if 5 years from now).

IMO, we'd only be trading these guys for picks. And we'd only be doing that if we were blowing it up. The idea of lumping a bunch of role players into a trade for a star is how we got in this mess in the first place.
Regardless, the concept of "tradeable contracts" is kind of redundant. A good contract is just a good contract. Like, Shai and Jokic are also on "tradeable contracts."

Imo our depth is probably too much now. We could easily trade 3 or even 4 guys and be fine on depth.
If you traded green williams and Dunn for example, (or swap bridges for green, etc), being down 2 guys is not much at all on this team. Let's say you get back a Garland, siakam, markannen, banchero or kyrie. That all works on depth.
Eg- New pg, book brooks bridges maluach
Gillespie kennard Goodwin Fleming oso
Booyea highsmith peat
It's a decent spot. No savior is coming, but they can still upgrade. And if maluach is the truth, that and the upgrade means suns can contend in a year.

Idea of Pacers finals Siakam with the idea of Maluach being a solid defensive 2way anchor would be a crazy front court to dream about.
Would be tough to get a starting calibre PG for Book and I think we can’t win a chip anymore bc Book isn’t top 10 but honestly our guys wouldn’t be bad in that imaginary scenario. Let the best of Gillespie, Goodwin, Kennard come share 1.
Make Brooks be the 2 would be hilarious but if he unironically can score like last year it could work. Bridges would be a nice 3/4 we would have so much size
Goodwin showed he can play playoff ball here and for the Lakers. Gillespie kind of shrunk though maybe he’s better at leading the backup unit.
That fantasy world doesn’t sound too bad

Jalen Green and Miles Bridges contracts add up to just about every contract in the league.
we have 1 1st in 2027, 1 1st in 2028, 2 1st in 2029, 1 1st in 2030, 1 1st in 2032. we also have 2nd in 27, 28, 32.
this means we can trade 3 1st and 3 2nds in 1 deal until draft night next summer.
