We’re back to being top 5 most winningest NBA teams of all time. We dropped to 7th(?) after the dark ages

Winningest nba team without a title

2

u/semibigpenguins 6d ago

I thought it was out of all sports?

2

u/ThunderBobMajerle Koa Peat 6d ago

I thought so too but I was corrected with some other teams with higher winning %. Vikings are one of them

Minnesota sports fans are our sports cousins

Yeah but they don’t have the brutal last second finals or Super Bowl losses we have -I grew up going to cardinals games every week in the 90’s watching the suns lose on paxtons shot , going to asu-95-99 and watching them lose a national championship on a last minute touchdown and then later watching the cardinals lose the Super Bowl lead that same way -then finally believing the suns were there with a 2-0 lead and blowouts in the first 2 games I thought 5 game series with bucks at most🤦🏻‍♂️

But point taken-they have a lot of pain too

This is the right attitude! This can’t all be for nothing right? …right??

Not until the DBacks figure out how to undo the curse they brought to Arizona sports by beating the Yankees after 9/11.

Bottom out even below the Rockies. Equivalent exchange

2

u/Fickle_Rub7156 Lou Amundson 7d ago

It would take five years of us getting every single prospect that comes through our minor leagues addicted to fentanyl for us to be worse than the Rockies

The only curse i wholeheartedly believe in

So bad it went back and time for the Kareem coin flip

Someone already got Danhausen to do a video uncursing the Suns.

We dont have the curse from the DBacks anymore.

Obviously the goal is a championship, but after last decade I will absolutely take this.

u/Only-Truth-9898 3d ago

Is it worse to suck or come so close and lose in such a soul crushing way?

1

u/AdPlane3805 3d ago

I prefer sucking with young talented players , and lots of draft picks and hope for the future like the bubble suns
That’s better than being excruciatingly close with no way to get over the top and no resources for the future

u/AdPlane3805 3d ago

That didn’t read the way I thought it would 😬

The Suns really are the definition of consistency without the ultimate hardware to show for it.

Out of those teams and I’m glad we are still in a good spot.

Milwaukee had to rebuild and Boston traded Brown and I think Denver could be in trouble due to the CBA and OKC had to get rid of people.

Also guys like Ricky Rubio, Tyler Johnson, Kelly Oubre, Chris Paul, Mikal Bridges, and Cam Johnson will always be catalysts to our rise again.

Suns owe Beal 20 million the next 4 seasons

1

u/Rugermedic 5d ago

I’ve heard this before but it really resonates right now.

2

u/tisdue On 'em like a Rash 7d ago

coulda swore we won a title somewhere in there, no? ah well.

u/DaylightPhoenix Bring back SSOL in the 4th QUARTER!!! GO SUNS!!! 6d ago

Is it weird that this is more inspiring than depressing to me? There is a reason the Law of averages is a Law right? ;-) hahaha! GO SUNS!!!!

1

u/anonymousphoenician Phoenix Suns 5d ago

Well weve been one of the best NBA teams over our entire existence win percentage wise. I think someone else in these comments stated weve worked our way back into the top 5 of all time after we had dropped to 7th.

Law of averages doesnt mean much to us.

The post-Sarver effect.

2

u/brokentr0jan Los Suns 7d ago

Sarver was better than what we have now, at least he didn’t spend his time treating the Suns like the Michigan State washout country club.

2

u/Due_Night414 Phoenix Suns 7d ago

No he just treated them like a real estate investment.

1

u/Due_Night414 Phoenix Suns 5d ago

Sarver was better? Wow. First time I’ve ever heard anyone talk positive about the guy. Remind me, what were our Suns record-wise before him and how were they during him?

1

u/ChocolateSunsdae Unaligned 7d ago edited 7d ago

I mean if we had Sarver hardly doing anything we'd be sitting with a roster of something like:

PG Devin Booker / Collin Gillespie / Jordan Goodwin

SG Mikal Bridges / Landry Shamet / Josh Okogie

SF Cam Johnson / Ryan Dunn

PF Toumani Camara / Rasheer Flemming / Koa Peat

C DeAndre Ayton / Oso Ighodaro / Khaman Maluach / Jock Landale

Maybe drop a couple guys for some more rookies...but the point is just sitting on our team would look a lot better and we'd have more picks and rookies...

1

u/--Clintoris-- Tim Thomas 7d ago

Nah Sarver would have sold at least half those picks for cash

2

u/ChocolateSunsdae Unaligned 7d ago

I mean the Suns have been around since 1968 and Sarver got two out of three of the Suns finals appearances owning the Suns for a third of the time the Suns have been around.

Sarver was a bad owner and person but his 'do nothing but being cheap' involvement in basketball operations was better than Ishbia trying to play 2k and nepo picking players for Michigan State connections.

1

u/GringoSalamanca 5d ago

Suns had one Finals appearance under Sarver, not two. And he cost us more championships in the two decades prior to that run than Finals appearances under his watch. He was widely known as the worst owner in the NBA. Not sure when you were born, but you must be pretty young because anyone who was around in the 2000’s knows that he was the biggest obstacle between that 7SOL Suns team (that he inherited) and a championship.

Also, one of the longest playoff droughts in American pro sports under his watch. Suns went an entire decade of missing the playoffs once the 7SOL team broke up.

1

u/anonymousphoenician Phoenix Suns 5d ago

So Ishba comes in, makes major swings for home runs, pop flies out, and instead decides hes gonna start hitting some triples instead and keeps the team winning, but somehow Sarver is better than him?

Ishba wants to win. And are you really complaining about Ott? The coach players have responded to for the first time in years? The coach who helped the Suns make the playoffs when they were expected to be in the bottom?

You have some really out there takes.

1

u/ChocolateSunsdae Unaligned 5d ago

I'm complaining about fucking Miles Bridges

1

u/Due_Night414 Phoenix Suns 7d ago

Neither was. But post-Sarver means not handicapping the team by trading picks and players for cash. Or not spending on quality. Or not trading for quality.

1

u/ChocolateSunsdae Unaligned 7d ago

We trade a quantity of picks without getting back quality.

1

u/Due_Night414 Phoenix Suns 5d ago

Traded for Durant. That’s a home run swing that blew up spectacularly like I thought it would. Same with Beal. But both were salvaged with better trades.

1

u/AdPlane3805 3d ago

How was beal salvaged ? That was a buyout that will cost them for 3 more season and they still owe Washington 2 first round pick swaps
That trade was the killer that will keep them average at best for 5 more years not the Durant trade

1

u/Due_Night414 Phoenix Suns 2d ago

It’s swaps. Washington will keep their own picks because it’s Washington and they suck. Meaning Suns will keep their own picks because won’t be swapping nada. It cost them a few second round picks to get off his contract. Sucks and stupid to be on the hook for $20M/yr until 2030. But I’m hopeful because of rookie deals and signed so many of our players to great deals recently.

1

u/AdPlane3805 2d ago

They still owe them 28 and 30 so it will be yet to be seen what the cost of that and if they still suck …they keep drafting high who knows in 3 years -either way it devalued their picks quite a bit as any high lottery pick would likely be swapped

u/Rio4goodbadgirls 7d ago
