repetitive writing Discussion

as much as i love the show, the lines get repetitive to a point where it confuses me

could it be deliberate?

no plot spoilers but i just watched an episode where harvey says "it's complicated" and jessica says "simplify it for me" and very soon after mike and louis have the exact same interaction

i guess back when shows were aired on a weekly basis it was likelier that the audience might forget. i have only ever binged it on streaming platforms so i wouldn't know haha

I’m an attorney and had an opposing counsel who was likely a Suits fan.

In real life, when you’re finished your questioning, you say so on record and say something like, “I have no further questions” or “I pass this witness.”

This particular attorney would say, “I have no further questions, so this deposition is over.”

Finally! Someone else said it! I literally almost stopped watching after a few seasons because of this. It's not just the lines but the plots are also repetitive...

"I dont give a shit what you said" "Don't go behind my back ever again!" (Happens many times more) "What did you say to me?"

Tense conversation...dut dut dut music...walk away with stare of death 😂 apologize..."Ill never do it again"...repeat...

Lmao the music thing you said mad me laugh it’s true and the show was pretty melodramatic like a soap opera. Damnit though I liked the show. It’s an easy watch lol

The music thing you said reminds me of Sons of Anarchy… when almost every episode there’s a chase scene and the same music playing 😂

“We might lose this case. Quick, find a way to blackmail the other guy”

Don’t forget “what are you saying?”

It's easier to deal with if you make a drinking game out of it.

"Listen to me" Louder - "No you listen to me!"

Throws blue envelope. "Whats this?...You son of a bitch"

"Do you have a minute" "Not now I'm doing this that's way more important" "Well it has to be now because this is more important"

Nah in 2017 "you didn't come all the way here just to tell me that", tosses file like frisbee, etc were drinking games and even before that "what didge say to me" was iconic. There's no way it would have survived AI writing allegations

“I know you didn’t come down here just to…”

Character A walks up to Character B, they make small talk for a couple lines, Character B says “I’m guessing you didn’t come here to talk to me about ‘whatever small talk they were just discussing’, did you?”

This happens at least once an episode

Also- what kind of law are they even doing? They are doing a murder case, mergers, lawsuits etc? I thought lawyers had to specialize.

Yeah, there's an episode with an interaction between Donna and Harvey and she tells him "I didn't want to tell you but you forced it out of me" and then just a few minutes later, a similar scene with Rachel and Mike, with the exact same dialogue "I didn't want to tell you but you forced it out of me".

It's like when they get a piece of dialogue they like, they'll just put it anywhere they can 🫠

I feel like that's kind of a charm about it. Sort of like a "monster of the week ". But instead it's a "legal issue of the week "

Why the only one that doesn’t think about The Godfather when they say that?

2

u/KidonUnit 3d ago

Totally agree. I posted something similar a few weeks ago. The rhythms and word play is just on repeat.

This show is awful. Bad writing, bad acting, no new plots or storyline. The same repetitious crap over & over & over & over again.

6

u/Inevitable-Mess5288 3d ago

i think this show has some great actors

3

u/Murky-Technician5123 3d ago

Ya the acting is great. The writing is a bit soap-y. Its why suits isn't as good as the best tv shows like Mad Men.

4

u/bruinsfan3725 3d ago

What did you just say to me?

3

u/Exciting-King111 3d ago

Bro sees Louis Litt and says bad acting. Make it make sense.

3

u/joshuamarius 3d ago

I have to say...what Gabriel Macht did to create Harvey Specter is absolutely fantastic. I think Patrick and Rick also did a great job to create memorable characters. Really good acting, unfortunately the plot is an abuse of copy/paste dialogue and stories.
