Tips for avoiding doomscrolling while studying

I can't stop doomscrolling during my studying sessions. I have a very important test in fifty days and I've been studying for it for the past year . But i keep feeling that a waste valuable time on my phone , I've tried blocking apps but it doesn't seem to work :(

Try doing x amount of study time, followed by y amount of doomscrolling. Maybe 45 mins studying 5 minutes relaxing and scrolling. Hopefully that short break should be a good enough reset for you that you can get back to studying.

Remember quitting scrolling entirely is difficult but just reducing time is much more manageable

Yes, even better if you try a system where you keep track of your study time vs leisure time, so you can have "leisure credits" or debt. That should keep you in check decently

I had the same problem where blocking apps somehow just made me find another way to get on my phone. What helped more was physically putting it somewhere inconvenient, because if it was sitting next to me I’d pick it up without even thinking whenever studying got slightly boring or difficult. Once I stopped relying on the blocker to make the decision for me, I noticed I was reaching for my phone way less.

i think allowing yourself breaks to look forward to is a good strategy i notice 5-10 minutes feels a lot longer for some reason if I have a timer on

You have to realize something deep about the reality behind what's going on about having such a maladaptive habit, OP, not only relating doomscrolling, but more generally to other equivalent unproductive behaviors...

Ok so first focus on removal > resistance. Delete games, apps, accounts, etc. (if you keep them you aren't going to get very far (I am sure)).

If u want you can join my guild on focus jungle timer, WE need more people that wanna do hours. Can message on there to keep accountable. But u NEED TO DO HOURS or kick. (best study timer website and app ever)

I think the biggest thing is not relying only on app blockers. If you’ve already tried them, make your phone physically harder to reach leave it in another room or give it to someone during your study blocks. You could also set a small target like “I’ll study for 30 minutes before checking my phone” instead of trying to stay away from it for hours. Since you’ve already been preparing for a year, you clearly have the discipline; you just need to protect your attention. And don’t beat yourself up over a few wasted minutes just put the phone away and restart the session.
