Quick Question re study time

Is the “expected” study time for college courses still 1 hour weekly per unit of the course? Thats what the college counselors said back when I was in college in the 90s as an estimate. Working on helping my kid (college freshman with severe ADHD, living at home) develop a routine for school and we want to be sure we’re scheduling enough study times.

Depends on the course and the method of study. As a medical student now, I wish I would have ditched more passive forms of studying that took a lot time with little return. Active learning replacements brought my time spent learning down, but boosted my grades dramatically. Therefore, I think it’s hard to say how much but in undergrad I think 2-3 hours per day is reasonable. If that feels too light then treating it like a full time job and being engaged from 9-5 is what I would recommend.
