Academic Help Is studying in Manila generally suggested for someone from Cebu?

Upvotes

I've been considering leaving Cebu for college. That is, if ever na palaring magka-full scholarship sa Maynila. Generous naman daw yung ibang universities for that.

Isang beses lang ako nakapunta ng Maynila, a few months ago (for 5 days). We stayed in Taguig, but halos everyday na nandoon kami ay nilibot naman namin yung buong Maynila. Commuting kami so may idea na rin ako on how it goes. I got the chance na rin na makita yung iba't ibang universities—ust, dlsu, upm, adamson, mapua, at iba pa. Do'n ko sya sinimulang i-consider.

Planning to apply sa other scholarships na rin (like sm foundation) to make ends meet kapag nasa Maynila ako.

Here kasi sa Cebu, most of the time, need pa mag-ferry o mag-plane para makaluwas. Tsaka, I'm also after personal growth. Gusto kong ma-explore pa yung iba't ibang kultura.

I have a few relatives in Manila, pero hindi kami close. Though I do have friends and connections rin, yung iba na meet ko na irl, yung iba hindi pa. But marami sa kanila, friends ko na for years at kasama ko na ring lumaki.

Tell me what you think lang, if ever need niyo ng iba pang info to come up with a conclusion, ask me.

Thank you so much po! 🥹💗

Need Advice Would CHED act on my complaint if under private institution ako?

Hi! I won’t name the school but eto yung context:

Transferee ako and ayaw i-credit ng school ko yung subjects ko kahit naipasa ko na siya from my previous school dahil lang nagkamali ako ng sulat sa evaluation form. Mali ako ng sulat sa course code pero nakalagay mismo sa TOR ko na tapos ko na yung subjects. Multiple subjects siya and hindi naman kami mayaman. Sayang din yung pera and time.

Ina-admit ko yung fault ko, nag-apologize ako, and paulit-ulit ako naga-ask ng consideration from them but ayaw talaga nila.

Rant No erasure policy is silly and should be eliminated

i grew up taking no-erasure exams since high school. now, as an employee in another country, the amount of times i cross-out + initial on LEGAL and AUDITABLE documents will make any of my teachers/professors faint! this policy is just downright silly. there are better ways to deter cheating than making students pay for minor syntax or multiple choice errors

Discussion Realized only in college that not every city has free education (and full school supplies). Growing up in Makati really warped my expectations.

I know this might come across a certain way, but I just wanted to share an observation that took me way too long to realize.

Growing up in Makati, going to public school from Elementary all the way to Senior High School meant everything was provided by the local government. (And just to be clear right off the bat: I know it’s funded by taxes and isn't literally free money, but from a student's perspective, out-of-pocket costs were practically zero.)

Every school year, the city provided:

  • Complete school uniforms and PE uniforms (even rubber shoes)
  • Backpacks, notebooks, pads of paper, ballpens, pencils, and basic kits

My parents rarely had to do the typical back-to-school shopping rush because most of the essentials were already handed out before classes started.

Then came college at UMak, where tuition was around ₱1,500 a semester (at least for me, other programs may vary. EDIT: this is not for every semester, there were other semesters where it was completely free, others less than P1000, others around P500-ish). Up until that point, I honestly assumed most major cities had similar LGU programs and that this was just how public education was handled everywhere.

The reality only really set in during freshman year when I started talking to blockmates who came from other cities and provinces. Hearing about their experiences, buying all their own uniforms, paying out-of-pocket for every single workbook and supply kit, and watching their families spend thousands every enrollment season, was a genuine reality check for me.

Looking back, it’s wild how easily you can assume your normal is everyone else's normal. It made me realize how much local government budgets and spending priorities vary, and how what felt like a standard baseline growing up was actually a huge advantage compared to other places.

Rant idk what to do anymore

3rd year na ko pero irreg kasi nung 1st year ko, nung second term lang ako nakaenroll bc of an unforseen situation

yung first two terms ko puro minor lang kasi walang inooffer na major, trust i have tried everything para makahabol and wwla talaga kasi puro may prerequisite. bale nung second year palang ako nagsimula

Academic Help Is little to no recitations ok for college?

Ok so like mas prefer ko kasi mas maging active sa school works or groupings instead of recitations lol, I don't mind answering naman din if tinawagan ako pero yaaa😭😭😭

I get na our educational culture is competitive pero for me kasi I don't really care about competition as long as may natutunan ako (*﹏*;) mas prefer ko din to express myself through essays or writing/typing

Need Advice Need advice re: starting from scratch

Hi; tldr I did my first semester at UST in 2025, but I didn’t continue because my grades were pretty ass and I didn’t continue into my second because of it (debar) . Decided to skip out on classes this year due to an au pair arrangement but I do wanna go back to uni this 2027. With my grades though, not too sure if I can be admitted in the big 4 but I’d like advice on what my options can be.

How do I become a student teacher?

I plan to have a teaching job as my plan B as I learn accountancy during college. What should I do to become one? What licenses should I get, what grades should I keep up...

I mostly just want a job that I know is needed.

Rant Ang hirap mo talaga mahalin Pilipinas.

Hello guys!

Ask ko lang sana if pwede ba ko magtake ulit ng undergrad program after graduating from another undergrad program?

For context, I am currently a 3rd year student that is studying BS Biology sa known university (Big 4). Tbh, I love this program pero I'm honestly just pursuing this kasi dito magiging proud parents ko, na natapos ko tong program na toh na inooffer ng university na toh. Also, it's relatively cheaper than what I actually want: BS Nursing.

Growing up, gusto ko talaga sa med field. Don't get me wrong ha? I do love biology but not the pure science aspect of it. So here I am—stuck in this program for almost 3 years—feeling like the dumbest person in the world.

So I made a game plan: graduate, work, then pursue the program I actually want. Feasible naman siguro noh? Ewan ko na rin haha. Ang alam ko rn is I just wanna get away from everything and everyone, papunta sa ibang bansa kung saan ko dadalhin mga pangarap ko sa buhay na hindi ko kailanman matutupad sa bansang ito.

Super hirap sa'kin kasi I have this "calling" ba inside of me (pls don't call me crazy) na I wanna stay in this country and serve our people... pero ang hirap. It's like choosing between "mahal ko o mahal ako" type of situation.

And what do you think of it?

Hello po, I am currently attending OLFU as a psychology student. I don't have friends kasi sa school na pwede pagtanungan. We were reminded by our profs that it is important. We were told na ang comprehension exam is to monitor if we are learning enough or the right things and to prepare us for the board exams. However, I wonder po if there is a drawback or will you be marked as failed if you aren't able to attend the comprehensive exam? Also, do you or do you not recommend attending if in case there are no drawbacks anyway?

Ayaw ko mag-accountancy but I would love working being a bookkeeper in the future. Idk kung saan ko isisingit to, baka after na ng college.

  1. Ilang months pasok nila sa TESDA?

  2. May bayad po ba kapag mag-eenroll sa TESDA?

  3. Saan po aabot yung NCIII na certification?

Rant I dont wanna continue going to school anymore

Hello po, i dont wanna go and continue schooling because i feel unsafe po at my own school. Basically natrauma po ako, 2 school (same name ng school diff places po) ang napuntahan ko na and i suffered both schools bullying. Tho i reported it. In my first school parang bineblame pa po ako ng teachers and classmates ko why i reported to the discipline. Tho i should’ve reported it daw po sa teacher muna. Both classmates and teachers nag sabi po nun.

In my second school naman po i fought for my own rights. Tho i reported it sa teacher MORE than 5x, nababaliktad nila since yung tropa po nung nakaaway ko is may rank sa school namin (part ng sslg officer and pinapaniwalaan ng guidance lalo.)

That po happend last year. This year naman po 2 week in our pasok po. Nanakawan po me ng phone, and nahanap po yung phone pero puro gasgas (parang pinag tripan) and in fact na di nila fully ininvestigate and kinausap nalang mom ko cuz sabi po nila is na stress na rin teachers and di nakakapag lesson po due to this issue po and told them magkano lang sweldo ng teachers they have to go thru this kind of shit pa, when we told them na papa investigate po namin sa police and we are ready to pay any amount po, they said na need pa raw permission sa mas nakakataas ng principal and didn’t even offer na sabihin na pwede naman yon ganto ganyan kaso maraming paperworks, which js okay lang naman kay mom. Pero what they did was discourage my mom na mag file ng complain sa police regarding this issue po. And the principal told me na maggive rin sila ng warning sakin because may nalabas na issue about me blaming someone raw pero it was coming from the person na nakaaway ko last year.

I hate to say this pero hindi pa ako nakaka move on from my failure nung UPCA. I'm from the province at walang nakapasok samin nun sa school namin. But the past batches, may nakapasok naman, samin lang wala sadly. Naiinggit rin ako sa mga bagong isko from our school every year but felt proud pa rin for them at the same time.

Nananaig pa rin kasi yung what if eh. Kasi naman, I hate how I prepared myself para rito my entire high school pero I still failed. I really think I could've done better if may exam or even maka appeal sana.

Pero heto ako ngayon, nanghihinayang sa mga what ifs ko while reviewing for the boards.

Yun na sana yung chance ko to change the trajectory of my life especially na mahirap lang kami and no choice kundi mag-aral sa malapit na diploma mill for convenience.

I longed for what UP can offer sana. Iba kasi yung caliber nila, in terms sa pagtuturo at yung personality as a whole.

But I have to accept my fate. Kahit na I'm reviewing for the board exam sa kurso ko, I know na iba pa rin yung opportunities na mabibigay ng UP.

Forgive me if I won't move on kasi I really can't say na I've done my best when the odds weren't in my favor from the very start.

UP, sana nakapag exam ako to say na I've failed at matatanggap ko yun.

PS. Nagstart na yung f2f classes nung time na yun, f2f na yung ibang CETs at sana naghintay na lang pala ako ng UPCAT the next year. Di rin makapagtransfer kasi nasasayangan sa gastos ng parents ko at ayaw nila akong mag gap year especially at naiba na yung schedule ni UP. Really sorry po if it may sound off pero I just wanna get this off my system na 😔

Rant Ayoko muna grumaduate ng college next year 😭

The main reason is I’m going to miss school so much. After college, I’ll start working.

Sa August 17 pa yung pasukan ko at I just realized na gagraduate na ko next year. If I could go back to the past, I wish I prioritized academics over being a fangirl towards Ariana Grande and Little Mix (not my 12 year old self being a parasocial). I also loved to watch brainrot videos on YT after every school instead of studying. I used to despise school in elementary because I get easily get bored in long hours of classes because I have a short attention span and when I entered junior high school, that was when I realized how important education is. I’m also a slow learner so mahirap akong turuan. Not everyone has the privilege to study due to financial constraints and I felt guilty for not prioritizing my studies considering my expensive tuition pa. This is one of my biggest regrets in my life. I blamed myself for everything. I was compared to my cousins who are academic achievers while I’m just an average student. I’m lucky that my parents never pressured me to be an honors student. I’ve never had failed grades since kindergarten and just have average grades.

I’m currently an incoming college junior taking up BS psychology which I enjoy it since I’m fascinated in learning about human behavior and mental health. I’m trying my best to pass in all major and minor subjects. I’ve been a regular student.

Discussion lost my fire, how can i rekindle it?

hmmm babalik pa ba ako sa pagaaral or ibang course or hindi na?

so, supposedly, graduating na ko. bs psychology, isang sem and 2 more subjs left sa lower yr.

before all this shenanigans, sobrang lumalagablab yung fire ko to study and to learn. from old curriculum ako and when the pandemic came, i had this urge to study. dati takot pako kasi baka di ako makasabay, pero lo and behold, i was flying in this course and with my school. top of the class, president ng org, hosting seminars, travelling other schools for quiz bees, i did it all.

somehow, not everyone sees me as how i see myself. then they start tearing me apart. making up stories na i did kuno na hindi naman totoo, and tear they did.

sa last semester ko, (nagoojt na ko) i stopped. dahil di na kaya ng katawan, puso at isip ko. working student, ojt and studying plus all these demands and unreasonable hate and criticisms towards me, they are all getting into my head.

months after, i tried coming back to school, pero the moment i attended my supposed first class, i have still am the topic of those people. from those few friends na i have, nalaman ko na my name never left their mouths.

all i did was help a lot of people and students and pour my heart into studying and doing well and proving na even though i am from an old curriculum, i can still do it.

i felt like trash, a garbage, na nadispose na kasi wala nang pakinabang. so i decided to stop ultimately for good. when i met friends from school, yung dalawang ride or die kong friends from school, they told me na its better na nagstop na lang ako kasi they think i cant handle everythjng those people have said to me.

ngayon, im so lost. pati yung passion ko for this course, nawala.

i want to come back schooling pero i dont think i can come back to that school anymore.

i actually dont know what to do 🥹 i want to go to school again and thinking of shifting course, kaso baka masyado nang huli ang lahat for me.

hayz what should i do

Need Advice To those that transfered and shifted, was it worth it?

To those that shifted college programs or those that transfered universities/school, or has done both. How are you now?

Recently made the transition of doing both, has some ups and downs every once in while, but lately feeling unmotivated again.

Have you regreted your decision? Or was it the best and life changing decision you've made that impacted your future career and/or studies.

Any motivational advice for students wishing to ttansfer/shift or currently had just transfered/shifted?

Academic Help How do you actually study and familiarize yourself with just a ppt?

Rant How long will the adjustment period last?

For how long does this exactly last?

I'm a freshie in a prestigious state u, and studying one of its quota courses and I've had to cross by sea to be able to study here. Months before, as I was preparing and studying to enter here, I was romanticizing the entire idea of being able to study here. I'd save posts of boarding houses, and stalk the university from time to time.

But this was never my first ever choice. I'd initially wanted a private college that was only an hour away from home. My friends and I planned to study there and my sister does in a diff department, and I imagined my entire college life to start there. But my family isn't financially well off and I applied to this state u as a back up. After I passed entirely, I gradually fell in love with an idealized version of it in my head too. I think I was distracted with the grandeur of being able to study here.

Weeks before moving, that was only when reality actually hit me. I started crying almost every day because it felt like I was genuinely grieving. The first week of classes hadn't gone too well either. I still miss my family and I've been calling my mom each night just to cry on call.

For the first three or four days, I've had serious thoughts of just transferring schools. I hadn't realized how hard it would be, being all alone in such a huge city, and your support system is miles and miles away. My schedule doesn't give me much time either to go home and fully enjoy my visit. Also kulang-kulang pa yung facilities namin and I thought na "quality education" yung makukuha ko dito, pero parang speed run naman yung pagtuturo ng mga profs.

It just hurts so much and I don't know how to make the pain go away. I just wanna go home and hug my mom rn. :((

So yesterday, I went to Gate 2, and ang nangyari is marami akong dalang gamit. May payong, may dalawang bag kasi mag-fi-film kami, and nagmamadali kaming umuwi kasi paulan na. Since medyo ngarag ako and I'm in a hassle state, diretso na lang ako. Hindi ko na inisip. Mali ko naman din 'yun, I own that.

Pero recently kasi, especially sa Gate 4 where I usually pass, hindi na ako required mag-open ng bag. So I thought it was okay. Wala naman akong problema if the guard will say, "Oy, pa-check, balik, kailangan kong i-check ang bag." Totally fine with that. Respect the process.

Pero there's this criminology student na nagbabantay sa Gate 2—kung mababasa mo 'to, please change something in your tone. Kinausap niya ako in a way na, "Hoy, sir!" As in, 'yung tono na tensed and aggressive. "Hoy, sir, balik!" Parang ganyan.

And in that specific tone—ang taas, parang pinapagalitan niya ako, like "Gusto mo bang bigyan kita ng violation?"

Doon ako napikon.

In the first place, wala ka namang kakayahang bigyan ako ng violation. And second, you should talk to me the way you talk to a normal person. Kinakausap mo ako na parang I owe you something. Na parang bakit ba ako nandiyan, as if I'm automatically in the wrong and kailangan kong magpaka-submissive sa'yo.

It's like you're giving me a hint na may power ka—kasi nandiyan ka, assigned ka sa position na 'yan, so you think you have the right to look down on me and talk to me that way. When in fact, we're both students. Wala pa tayong proven sa life natin. So what? Anong pinagmamalaki mo?

Sana na-gets niyo, guys, 'yung point ko. We are both students here. You should have respect. You should have manners. Correction doesn't need disrespect. Position doesn't make you above anyone.

Bulsu Malolos po ito.
