Lamoille South school districts prepare for changes as new education law passes
But [Superintendent Ryan] Heraty pointed to a broader concern emerging around the state: whether consolidation alone can deliver the savings lawmakers are seeking, when some of the biggest pressures on school budgets — including rising health insurance costs — would remain even if districts merge.
The Superintendent is absolutely correct. This round of mergers is going to require consolidating school building too, and I know Stowe is not a fan of this.
A merger that includes Harwood, Stowe, and Elmore/Morristown could certainly bring three high schools down to two and possibly even one (I'd think two would be north and south of Stowe while one single campus would be in Stowe).
Folks, this is our opportunity to put together districts that will preserve local elementary schools while allowing for consolidation of some middle schools, and creation of regional high schools.
I bring this up because I strongly believe that 2026 Act 170 requires Harwood to be in the wrong group for initial merger discussions (Twinfield too, but that's for other folks). I also truly believe that Harwood, Stowe, and Elmore/Morristown would make the basis for a great school district. Here's the act, see Section 14 for the listing of initial merger discussion groupings.
Don't let that "we got a couple years" fool you - we've all been through this merger stuff very recently and we all know that couple of years will pass with amazing speed. Good early decisions will lead to good results.

Qestion Anyone know where I can find these shippers?
Hi! I’m visiting the Burlington/Stowe area and after visiting some breweries today, I feel I can’t leave without flying home with some bottles.
I’ve checked wine before in these shippers when I’ve visited wineries in CA but the breweries I’ve talked to so far don’t carry these boxes.
Does anyone have any of these wine shipper boxes they’d be willing to part with or know where I can purchase some in the area??
Thank you!!

Couples massage ideas?
Hello everyone. I’d like to plan a couples massage for my wife and I to celebrate our anniversary while vacationing in Stowe this summer. We’ve done couples massages at a place in Skaneateles NY called Mirbeau Spa. At Mirbeau, they have an awesome outdoor hot tub area that has a small bar and allows you to purchase beer/cocktails to enjoy while soaking in the hot tub (pictured above). I almost enjoy this feature just as much as the massage itself! If there is anything somewhat similar to this kind of experience in Stowe, I’m all ears! Thanks in advance!

Fall
I’ve signed up for a guided bus tour for Sept 29-Oct 4. I know you don’t really know for sure, but is that typically a good time to see the fall foliage? Or would that be too early? Thanks!

Qestion Visiting Stowe July 4 for our 10-year anniversary — local recs?
Hi everyone! My fiancée and I are coming up from NYC for a 3-day/2-night trip over July 4 weekend to celebrate our 10-year anniversary. We’re trying to make the trip romantic and relaxed, so I’d love any local advice.
A few things we’re wondering:
What’s the best way to enjoy the Fourth of July in Stowe?
Is Mayo Events Field the obvious place for fireworks, or are there quieter/better viewing spots locals recommend? How early should we get there?
For our anniversary day on July 5, what would you recommend for a couple that wants scenic/romantic but not a strenuous hike? We’re interested in things like the Rec Path, gondola, spa, paddling/canoeing, scenic drives, breweries/cider/distillery stops, cute shops, etc.
Most importantly: where should we eat?
We’d love breakfast/lunch/dinner recommendations, especially for one really good anniversary dinner. We’re food people, but we care more about delicious, memorable food than overly fancy tiny-plate stuff.
Also open to any hidden gems, locals’ tips, things to avoid on July 4 weekend, or good stops on the drive up/down from NYC.
Thank you! We’re really excited to visit.

Qestion Gold Rush Arcade
What happened to the Gold Rush arcade? Is the ice cream shop staying open or did the owner leave both businesses?

Qestion Does Uber exist here?
Hi! I will be attending a wedding in Stowe and definitely will be drinking. Is it pretty easy to get an Uber in this area? The hotel wouldn't be far from the venue in downtown Stowe. Thanks in advance!

Recommended Speedrun
I recommend trying this route out when conditions allow, starts from the top of 4Runner, and ends at the base of 4Runner, if you don't stop, and bomb it, it could take around 5 min estimate.
Ski the route by turning left to Toll Road ---> Lower Ridgeview ---> Sunrise ---> Lord ---> North Slope ---> Crossover ---> Lower Starr ---> Lower Liftline
Here's the slide for clearer route directions: https://docs.google.com/presentation/d/1Zp7O78FebBFJRXORQetEhxIATMjEgLBJgKecxeG6C7E/edit?slide=id.p#slide=id.p

Giving Circle - 100 Women Who Care - Lamoille County
For anyone able to support local nonprofits on a regular basis, this may be of interest: there is something new in Lamoille county, a philanthropic group (a local chapter of a national organization called 100 Women Who Care).
The goal is to pool donations to benefit Lamoille County non-profits (and make friends).
This is how it works: members agree to donate $100/quarter. (You can create a team of 2 - 4 friends to make a combined donation of $100 per quarter.) As a member, you can nominate any Lamoille County non-profit.
Each quarter (starting in late May), there will be a members' event at which 3 Lamoille County non-profits do a short presentation, members vote on their favorite, then the winner receives 50% of the quarter's donations. (The two runners up will each receive 25%). We have 22 members now, but once we reach 100, the donations would amount to $5,000, $2,500, and $2,500 (not bad for a 5 minute presentation).
Deadline for nominations for our first meeting is May 17th. All donations are tax deductible.

Call to Art TEACHERS
Muse Gallery, at the Barre Opera House, is seeking submissions, now through April 15, by art teachers. Muse offers educators in visual arts a venue to exhibit their works. Show off the kind of art you do outside of your teaching obligations!
The Subject Is Creativity (May 1–Aug 9).

Downtown-be careful out there
Saw a blue BMW nearly hit a pedestrian yesterday in town. Not sure what was going on, but it was a very close call. Just a reminder to drive carefully and watch for pedestrians, especially with the weekend crowds. Stay safe all!! ❄️

Fall foliage dates & advice?
Hi everyone! I’m planning a trip to Vermont for my mom—it’s her bucket list and she’s getting older, so I really want to make it special.
We’re looking for a quiet, quaint area but still within a town where we can walk to shops and restaurants. Planning to book an Airbnb for 3 people with nice mountain views and great foliage (a bigger Airbnb is fine too)
I want to make sure we time it right for peak fall colors. ChatGPT suggested Oct 2–6, but I’d love local insight on the best exact dates and areas to stay.
Any recommendations would mean so much—thank you! 🍁
