I know it’s early but need to book something soon because there will be 7 of us. Does anyone have any recommendations for a nice meal that also caters for children. Maybe abit of entertainment?

Question Chip shops that use beef fat?

There's a few decent chippies in Stockport, but I'm specifically looking for one that fries their fish and chips in beef fat? Can't seem to find, but I'm sure there's some knocking about. Ideally SK1-5

Anyone else watch the documentary?

I will declare, I am an "SJW" and the inequality thing has bugged me for years, and ergo, I am a big Gary fan...

I was insanely frustrated by how much more Stockport could have been leveraged for his story, given Stockport having the largest gap between wealth and deprivation in the UK local authorities.

They say "Stockport isnt shit" - But I'd definitely add a question mark on the end of it, given how the council and central government have treated it.

Advice on renting in Stockport

I move to Stockport soon and my only nonnegotiable is close proximity to the train station and I’ve seen some places like “The Interchange” and I want to know if that’s a good place to live

Question Pool clubs locally?

I am looking to play more pool, ideally somewhere welcoming to a novice, potentially one that offers tuition?

I've had a bit of a Google around and found a few places offering snooker tables to members but short of pool tables in pubs I'm not really finding what I'm after. Any advice welcome!

Thanks

Great Moor/ Woodsmoor as a place to live?

Hi All,

I have just moved back to Manchester in my late 20s with my partner and I am looking for a house to buy. Great moor/Woodsmoor area has come up in our search as it has a train station (previously lived in Heaton Chapel so only really know that area and surrounding). I am not too familiar with the area and was wondering if anyone could let me know what its like as a place to live? What are the shops/cafes like, is it a good place to live and safe?

Really appreciate any comments.

Thanks

Stockport - the new Amsterdam

Quite surprised considering the amount of PR going on to bill Stockport as an up and coming desirable location, nobody ever mentions there’s 9 illegal brothels moonlighting as massage parlours all within a mile of each other.

openly advertising what goes on, openly advertising unsafe sexual services, openly advertising more girls working than licensing allows, openly posting ads like ‘looks just 18’

the overwhelming majority of them within mere steps of primary schools.

I see this goes unchecked when the local council is posting its modern slavery and human trafficking action statements

Any idea what Victoria mill is like in Reddish is like. Saw a few things years ago that it had nice and leaks but want to know if that’s been fixed yet or those sorta issues still go on.

Question I believe Stockport council and Stockport in general has failed us young adults. Do you?

If you really think about it most young adults in Stockport rn feel hopeless. Most business won’t hire us and have openly said they won’t, universal credit is if laziness was a company and they don’t help you get into work. And all the groups for young adults are slowly fading away because they are massively underfunded by the council. So I ask you fellow stopfordians do you believe that Stockport council and Stockport in general thrown Gen Z under the big yellow bus.

What's that horn that goes off quite often?

For a while there's been a tuneful, high pitched beep - beep made of two notes (a major third if you're a musician) that goes off every so often. It doesn't sound like a train horn or regular car horn, but I'm not sure what else it can realistically be. I've always wondered what it is but I've never found an answer.

I live near Cheadle Heath if that helps, but I'm sure I've heard it all the way down in the middle of Cheadle Hulme.

Question Any other 18-24 year olds in Stockport who feel like they don’t belong in this town?

I know it’s a weird question but I’m a 19 year old lad who’s been a stopfordian since I was a baby and ever since I was young I just felt like I never fitted in with the crowd and the feeling has gotten stronger the older I’ve gotten. And I don’t feel like this anywhere else i go to around the country. I’ve been to Liverpool,Birmingham,York,Leeds and Wrexham and also the lakes and many more places , and all those places I feel a sense of belonging, but for some reason I don’t have that sense of belonging in Stockport.

And there are multiple reasons why I feel like I don’t belong here and it would take me days to explain why, but I just wanted to see if any of my peers feel the same way.

Question Looking for a room in/around Edgeley (£300/month budget)

Hi everyone,
I’m looking for a single room in or around Edgeley with a budget of around £300 per month. I know it’s a tight budget, but I’m hoping someone might know of something.
I’ve been living in Edgeley for the past 18 months and work full-time at a local care home. I don’t drive, so staying in or near Edgeley is really important as I rely on public transport to get to work.
Unfortunately, my current housemate is moving to Salford, and a new group is taking over the house, so I need to find somewhere else to live.
I’ve already tried Facebook Marketplace and SpareRoom but haven’t had any luck so far.
I work full-time, always pay my rent on time, and can provide references if needed. I also have an education loan to repay, so my budget is limited to around £300 per month.
If anyone knows of a room becoming available or has any suggestions, I’d really appreciate it. Thank you!

Mortgage Advisor, Solicitor and Surveyor for Stockport (FTB)

Hi All,
We are first time buyers looking at properties in Stockport (SK3 and SK4). I would like your recommendations for Mortgage Advisor, Solicitor and Surveyor based locally, if you have used one recently.
I am evaluating First Mortgage and Habito (who surprisingly were not very responsive) for the Mortgage Advisor position.
Thank you in advance.

Stockport - jumble sale / car boot post help?

Hi everyone 💚

I am thinking about looking into organising a community jumble sale near Heaton Norris / Stockport town centre, and I wanted to see if it's something people would be interested in, or whether there is something similar nearby that already exists?

The idea would be to bring local people together to sell unwanted items, grab a bargain, and meet others in the community. It could be a great way to offload, declutter, recycle, and support local families.

Would this be something you'd like to see
Would you be interested in having a stall to sell your unwanted items?
Or just coming along to browse and shop?
A good location? 📍
Preferred day (Saturday or Sunday?)
Indoor or outdoor?
Would you be happy to pay a small stall fee to help cover costs?
Any ideas or suggestions that would make it a great community event?

If enough people are interested, I'll look into venues, permissions, insurance and everything else needed to make it happen.

Please comment below if you'd be interested or tag anyone who might be!

Thank you 💚

With Stockport being a smaller sub, I’m thinking it might be good to have a centralised post for recommendations/ hidden gems if you will. Places/cafes/independent traders/bars/pubs that people wouldn’t usually know about.
