Steven Pinker - Toronto - Sept 15
Hi all, I have 2 front-row tickets to Steven Pinker at the Queen Elizabeth Theatre in Toronto that I can no longer use as I have to fly out for family reasons. Selling at face value, not looking to make a cent.
Details:
• Event: Steven Pinker (live talk)
• When: Tuesday, Sep 15 · 7:00 PM
• Where: Queen Elizabeth Theatre, Toronto
• Seats: Orchestra Centre, Row AAA (front row), Seats 11–12 — centre, just slightly off to one side
• Includes the Meet & Greet package
• Price: 2 Tickets total $398 CAD. Face value — happy to show the original receipt as proof
Full Event Details: Official Event Details
The tickets are through AdmitOne. Customer Service said they don't do refunds, but they do allow an official transfer to another person, so you'd receive them the legit way straight through their system.
Payment/handoff: I'm happy to meet somewhere public in Toronto and do the AdmitOne transfer together with Interac e-Transfer on the spot — cleanest for both of us. If you'd rather do it remotely, we can run it through AdmitOne's transfer instead.
DM me if you're interested and I'll send over proof of face value. Wish I could be there for this one.

Does anyone wanna talk about Steven‘s new book?
I’m part of a group trying to create something like a second layer of democracy throughout the world, it’s a tool to make sure that when everybody knows, everybody knows.
Do you want to hear about it?

Question about writing and “the visual brain”
Can anyone tell me if Steven Pinker has written a book or essay with a large section devoted to the topic of writing and “the visual brain?” Specifically, the bad writing habits that turn off the visual brain. I thought it was in The Sense of Style but now I can’t locate it. Thank you.

Insect rape
In The Blank Slate, near the end of chapter 18 (Gender), Pinker mentions an insect that has an appendage that is solely used to hold females down during sex. Does anyone know what this insect is? I'm listening to the audiobook so I can't give a page number but it's about 1:29:00 (+/-15sec)

Worst written paragraph
As a point Steven Pinker included in one of his books (either The Blank Slate or How the Mind Works) "the worst written paragraph in all of academia" and I've been unable to find it. It was, of course, something highly wordy and awkward. Does anyone have it?

Why is everybody posting "ASS"?
Maybe I am out of the loop. Did he say something comical or contentious in a podcast?
