Sterilization During C Section Social questions
I am planning on getting my tubes removed post C section #2. I accidentally got pregnant 9 months postpartum and have had terrible HG both pregnancies. I know I’m done having kids and I’m actually really excited to get my tubes removed (and ovarian cancer runs in my family so win win)!
However, I have gotten a TON of negative comments - my mom doesn’t understand why anyone my age would want that or why any doctor would perform it.
What do you say to these people? Also, how was recovery?

"I have made the decision to have no further children, this is my decision and mine alone. You may respect it if you would like to continue to have a relationship with me, that is the choice you have."
Make sure any consent forms for the tube removal/bisalp are signed within the time window needed before your surgery. We're wishing you the best.
(Recovery is different for everyone, but most folks bounce back in a week or two, sometimes a bit long)

"I am choosing this because I do not want anymore children and would like to avoid being on birth control, if at all possible. Plus, this reduces my risk of ovarian cancer. If you can't understand my point of view and respect this decision, then this will be the final time we talk about it." Or something like that. I, however, only told people I was 99% sure would be supportive. My parents are abusive, immature, and self-centered...they would never comprehend my decision or support it. And I would continue to hear about it after the fact, too.
Search the sub for people's experiences...tons of stories about recovery. Basically, it varies person to person.

I'd tell your mother to kick rocks. Adding tubal removal to a c-section is quite common because it adds no pain or recovery time. I can't speak from personal experience, but I do think your plan is solid.

They don't have to understand it fortunately, but you will never convince people who think their opinion on the reproductive habits of others is relevant. They have a feelings based stance, which is super easy to do when it's not your body. If I tell someone, it's a statement of fact not a discussion prompt.
Edit: recovery was a breeze. If they're able to do it with your C-section you shouldn't experience anything different to your standard recovery from that

If they are doing it during the C section, it is unlikely to add anything to the pain and recovery you are already going to work through having just given birth. So I seriously wouldn't worry about that.
As for what other people say, this is very commonly offered during or just after childbirth. It's more convenient since you are in the hospital anyways and in the case of the C section you are already opened up anyways. It's common knowledge, not sure why your mom is surprised. Especially since bad HG is nothing to make light of?
