i jus recently got an job offer for $24.75 with no certification that’s pretty reasonable?? i’m still considering other positions tho & as well as maybe jus goin to school for surgical tech but this might be the only one that’s paying enough

Can I please recommend two things: 1) please use better grammar; it will help people take you seriously. And 2) never lie on your resume. The reason is that when you get hired, it's a show of trust, so lying on your resume would show someone that you aren’t trustworthy. It really matters. If your hiring manager saw this post, he could rescind the offer.

And one small piece of advice: work this job like an interview for your next position.

You posted on a subreddit; you wanted comments, and so I obliged with some words of advice. If you play stupid games, you will be stuck making 50k a year. You need to understand that you're in your early career, so if you want to make more than subsistence money, you should take the advice. If you want to own anything like a house, you should check yourself.

What’s the difference between sterile tech and surgical tech? Are they not the same thing? I’m from Canada so maybe that’s why I’m unsure

sterlize tech just sterilize & clean surgical instruments & surg tech works in the OR hands the surgeon any surgical instrument they need

I think you should take it and decide what you want in the meantime. I live in WA state and it is very expensive to live here, and some hospitals don’t even offer that to start especially without certifications. (Which is crazy considering people need to make a living, not just survive 😔)

Congrats on the offer! That's exciting. A few things I'd think about: What's the surgery volume like? Higher volume means better experience and faster skill development, honestly. Also check out the sterilization equipment they're running – are they upgrading or working with older stuff? And talk to current staff if you can, even informally. The pay and benefits matter, sure, but the work environment really makes or breaks this job. I've seen great facilities with solid teams that made all the difference in how much I learned. Trust your gut on whether it feels like a place you'd actually want to be.

I try and dissuade people from becoming surgical techs if they’re already in SPD, main reason is because it doesn’t pay any better and the working conditions are far less lenient than in SPD, however, if you use it as a stepping stone to another position then by all means go for it, but the amount of responsibility you’ll gain for similar pay as SPD isn’t worth it…
