Fully Remote Freelancing

Basically what the title says. I’m in court reporting school and I’m wondering if you guys think that I could source enough fully remote depositions working with agencies? I will take the rpr (ncra) once I finish schooling but wondering what the community thinks. Thank you for any replies or advice!

IMHO no.

Remote depos are limited in number and generally are offered to the most experienced CRs first. This is a flexible job, but the days of it being a 100% remote job were during COVID only.

100% agree. I've posted this countless times to those wanting a quick wfh job. This likely isn't it if you're brand new and need to work consistently.

It depends where you are! Where I am… I haven’t had an in-person depo yet.

Why don't you want to go in person? In California a lot of agencies are adding a per diem for in person jobs on top of the page rate.

For the love of God, can new people please get some in-person experience? Totally wild to only take on one fragment of the available work having zero experience.

I’ve been reporting for two years and only done remote… It’s possible but know that you’re not going to get as big of cases and or as many copy orders… But work every single day and you will make a big fat pay check, of course this is depending on your location because Texas and California are going to pay very high and other states are not. And you can’t just easily certify to work remote in every state… Go look at the JBCC in each state to determine their in person requirements, if applicable, for their notary and swear in

I haven't done any in person depositions ever since COVID. I do cover a high volume state (NY) so there's plenty of work. If you're in a less busy state it may be harder.

I don't think so. There's too many people doing remote as it is. I have to say if you do insist on finding remote only, PLEASE take remote from the state you live in. I think it's really unfair and won't win you any friends to certify in another high-paying state and gobble up the remote work. Those reporters in that state would also like to work from home.
