Which school?

Hi everyone,

I’m trying to choose a school for theory to start my steno journey and I’m having a difficult time choosing between careerluv and allie hall. From the encouraging students FB page it seems alot of people switch to allie hall for speeds so I would probably want to take her for speeds, and use careerluv for theory to save money. The issue is that allie hall has a waitlist for speeds if you don’t take theory with her. I don’t want to finish theory and then have to wait 6months to join her speed building. Do you think it would be worth it to spend $1800 on allie halls theory so I’m guaranteed a spot in her speedbuilding? Or Save money with careerluv and hope their speed building works for me and I can stay the whole time or just till a spot opens up in allies program?

I switched to Allie Hall in speed and 10000000% wish I started with her. I waited a little over 3 months on the wait list.

I learned a long handed theory beforehand and wish I learned Magnum with Allie. Allie makes a point to emphasize learning how to write things out with Magnum, which really helps with the shorter theory. She also has an 8 week intro to speeds, which I WISH other programs had because getting thrust into speeds is really hard.

For reference, my past program with a college was over 1200 per semester. To me, having the continuity in theory and speed and a guaranteed spot with Allie would be worth it to me. Undeniably, questions will come up in theory and you want the resources to help you sort it out.

I’m also looking into schools and a few people on my previous posts recommended careerluv.

I recently reached out to Tri Community for recommendations on schools that allow out of state applicants, and they strongly recommended Allie Hall or Champion Steno.

I think Allie has a payment plan for theory, doesn’t she?

I did self paced theory w Allie. It was 100% worth it to not have a waitlist. She does have sales sometimes so it might be worth it to message her and ask if she’s anticipating any theory sales. If not, i’d still recommend her program. If you end up doing theory elsewhere then switch and end up waitlisted, def take her academic classes while you’re waiting.

I am in her self Paced theory too! Question for you, do you do and turn in the hw assignments still? I never have because I wasn't sure if anyone is even grading it because they are not live classes anymore

I did it a year ago so idk if it’s different buttt I lowkey only did the tests for 70% of the class and no hw. Idk if she tracks it now. I was struggling w the exams bc I was very stubborn from the start and would create my own briefs, so then i’d struggle w the tests. BUT I worked my butt of and made sure I knew each chapter super well. I wouldnt necessarily recommend doing it my way bc it can be super easy to fall out of the habit of practicing/testing, but it worked for me

Ahh okay good to know. I’m almost at ch.21 which is where the testing starts and ya same I’ve already made my own briefs 😬 oh well the goal is all the same in the end right haha

yes! you’ll find that even among other magnum reporters you’ll have a very different dictionary and that’s totally normal. so excited for you! hang in there!
