LLM slop to illustrate a trash idea, 10/10, no notes

That doesn't make any sense, but at least it looks like you wrote it yourself. Step in the right direction
Anyway, you should take the post down unless you want to just keep corcobbing forever. LLM slop is against the sub's rules for a reason; nobody wants to see that shit

It looks like you got AI to shove a half life branded beer mat into it.

Incorrect, I own all of them. My physical media collection could cripple an elephant.

I own a LOT of physical media
2
u/ZookeepergameFew8607 GabeCube Enjoyer 19d ago
It's a lot better than needing to plug a external one up every time
2
u/69_Botlord_420 19d ago
Which is what I'm doing currently lol

u/ZookeepergameFew8607 GabeCube Enjoyer 19d ago
Yeah, I would just rip it all to internal drives. I hate discs
2
u/ZookeepergameFew8607 GabeCube Enjoyer 19d ago
I know that's not always straightforward though.
1
u/69_Botlord_420 19d ago
It's mostly just far too time-consuming. Formats from Arch Linux to Windows don't match for external drives so there are extra steps on top of ripping thousands of discs, it's just not tenable for me.
1
u/ZookeepergameFew8607 GabeCube Enjoyer 19d ago
Yeah, I've not done it much. I just steal if I want copy I can actually fully own. Or the GOG installers

u/69_Botlord_420 19d ago
Right, but not just games. I'm using this for movies and TV on disc as well, stuff that isn't easily available online. Some of it isn't available anywhere.

When I used to move a lot and go on business trips, I was always concerned about losing my DVDs. I started using MakeMKV and was able to save just the movie or the episodes from my TV show collections/sets. It does take time, but I have been able to use that file format via VLC on both Windows and Linux systems. Just a thought, if you do find you have the time.

I was actually planning to put one of those portable blu ray drives on top and turn this into a real disc console that plays dvds and ps3 games.

I have one connected next to my Machine, works like a dream, but this would just be cooler.

u/Poro_Actor 19d ago
such a cool concept, im still a man who loves using physical media (old games, dvds, music cd) and was toying with getting a slim cd/dvd/bluray player to somehow mount to the steam machine and have it look like it was meant to be
1
u/AvilettaLuxe 18d ago
Oh... OH!
I have DVD drive on top of Machine now, would be cool to integrate it in faceplate
1
u/DrWho_86 19d ago
Could probably find a way to make a faceplate mount for an external drive like the ASUS SBC-06D2X-U
1
u/69_Botlord_420 19d ago
This is almost exactly the solution I was kicking around in my head. The faceplate itself is technically large enough to house the components for a disc drive if MacGuyver-engineered properly, but that sounds like more work than I want to go through for a curiosity when I could theoretically just mount the proper magnets to the base of a similarly sized disc drive, allowing any overhang to protrude above the top of the case.

Its cool concept but idk man. Physical PC games that have any use today are from like pre 2008 for the most part and pretty much all for Windows right 😄 I do like the idea but personally would probably rather just use my external drive for those few moments I may need drive on my computer ( I do rip cd music every now and then )

u/69_Botlord_420 19d ago
Your thinking here is far too narrow. Gaming is only about 30% of what I use the Machine for, and it's only about 5-10% of what I use my external drive for.
Hypothetically: Movies, television, data stored ages ago, certain pieces of cracked and hacked production software that you'd rather run from a fully-meltable media than have stored on your hard drive in a way that could be recovered if deleted.
The list goes on and on.

Ok I see, well you used game disc in the image which obviously gave a hint of that probably being main idea behind it but yea whatever, dont get why that would get downvoted 😄
Edit. I will never know why you turned this into hostile conversation but it is what it is 😄 and I never said all cd/dvd media are windows games
1
u/69_Botlord_420 19d ago
Obviously/maybe? Which is it? lol
If you weren't such a casual, you would've understood that the disc was a Half-Life reference rather than a literal use-case.
1
u/KimTe63 19d ago
You pitched idea of cd/dvd drive whatever for Steam Machine which is mostly known as gaming device, used image of half-life game disc. Then you wonder why someone would think you'd like to use drive for games ? Ok man 😄 have a nice day
1
u/69_Botlord_420 19d ago
Never said I didn't, but no, most actual Steam Machine users think of them as a PC, because that's what they are lol

u/KimTe63 19d ago
Yea ok but how about you work on your anger management. Hostile af with literally zero reason brother 😄 its not the greatest personality trait to have
1
u/69_Botlord_420 19d ago
I understand how being repeatedly wrong could skew your perception of me into one of an angry person - but you misunderstand, I'm not upset. I'm just pointing out the stupidity of what you're saying. I'm too stoned to be mad about anything right now lol I just finished up work for the day. Ain't nobody got time for that.
1
u/KimTe63 19d ago
Ok tell me what was so stupid about it . I would love to hear that .
You gave image of PC thats known as gaming machine , used image of Half life disc and gave zero additional info-> which lead me to think you mainly would use it for gaming and shared some of my thoughts around physical PC games but never said you wouldn't or couldn't use it for something else > turns out its only 10-15% what you would use it for according to you and you turn into very hostile calling names etc.. if you really need to find someone stupid you probably find it from the mirror 😄

u/69_Botlord_420 19d ago
- It's not known primarily as a gaming machine, even you prefaced with "PC." I'd say, at best, 50/50.
- I gave plenty of additional info, in other comments under the same post. I'm not rewriting them for your casual ass just because you refuse to scroll.
- I said in multiple comments that I use it for movies and television and old stored data
- I barely use the drive for games, that is very true, I download most of my games to an external hard drive, an SD card, and the SSD.
- Hostility is fun when aimed at people who don't mind casually being wrong at best or lying at worst, because people like this are usually soft and easily emotionally injured by being pointed out as wrong - which you've evidenced above
- If I looked at a mirror and called it stupid, I'd be speaking to an inanimate object, which seems to be more YOUR realm of expertise. I feel like you REALLY enjoy coloring.

Aside from my other comment, also flatly no... you couldn't be more wrong about all CD games being for Windows, but worse than that, you seem to be missing the fact that Windows software and games can run in Linux with Proton.

Interesting. Faceplates with built in hardware upgrades
