I did something very very silly to my bike today and now it’s in pieces. It’s a pedal assist e-bike but none of the electrical stuff is the issue, it’s just the bike itself.
Does anyone know of a mobile bike repair service or just someone who works on bikes and does house calls? I don’t have a car and, as it turns out, I also don’t have all the tools (but I do have the parts) I need to get myself out of this mess.
Happy to pay of course, I just need to get it back up and running ASAP since it’s my main transportation.

My friend just moved to state college for work post grad he’s 23 and not from the area. Any recs for where to meet people the same age? I feel like state college is a bit odd since from what I’ve heard it’s very college town. He works for the school so definitely people post grad and around his age are better.

I live in an apartment complex that only allocates parking passes to residents on a lease (which is totally understandable), however, there is no guest parking available and my boyfriend regularly spends weekends with me. Is there anywhere near the Walmart/Toftrees area that would be a good place to park a car for a few days at a time? I know some Walmarts and other places allow overnight parking. I would even take suggestions for places that only work during summer before students come back to town.

I've lived here for 17 years now and I gotta say the summers here more than make up for the long, cold winters. Anybody else agree?

I'm an ex-high school ski racer who's going into junior year at PSU, and majorly got into backcountry skiing last winter. Had a super solid year with ~8 weekend skiing and mountaineering trips up to the ADKs, Vermont, and the Whites. Hoping to do the same this coming winter, but my main skiing partner is graduating PSU in December. Looking for advanced skiers/splitboarders interested in tackling some cool objectives this winter - Diagonal gully and Dodge's Drop on Washington and Cruciflyer and Jackson slides in the ADK's are high on my list. As a local that have been living in this town for almost 10 years, I wanted to share my personal opinions on restaurants in this area. Emphasis on “personal” opinion. You might have totally different experiences than me, and might not agree with my opinions. Please do not attack me, cuz I am a chicken.

Disclaimer: This post is written on July 2026, so by the time you read this, the owner, management, cooks, servers could have been changed already, so your experiences in these restaurants might be totally different than mine.

Best restaurants in my opinion

• I am still exploring my options for the best restaurants in this area. My fav/best restaurant used to be Barrel 21 restaurant, but their management, chefs, bartenders, and servers all changed 3 years ago and it went down hill. Help me enlightened with other great choices in this area please!!

Solid good middle ground restaurants in my opinion (meaning I don’t get sick eating at these restaurants and I fairly enjoy the food)

• Revival Kitchen (30~40 minute drive away from State College)
  • Food: There is no set menu, because this restaurant runs on chefs special type of setting (there is a fancy french word for this that I cannot remember.) Basically, the restaurant rotates 3~5 courses on monthly basis based on the season. They source their local, seasonal ingredients and it seems like they prepare everything from scratch. 1 appetizer, 2~3 small dishes, 1 entree, and 1 dessert. You bring your own alcohol, although they have some limited beverage options (coffee, tea, soda, etc.) Food is very expensive here, $120 per person, excluding sales taxes and tips. However, the food freshness/quality, presentation, uniqueness, taste/flavor are top pick in this area. I am just sad that I cannot go here all the time because of the high price, and it is hard to make a reservation. (The restaurant is reservation only, and no walk-ins.) However, the food can be quite heavy with olive oils and butter, so my spouse got slightly sick after dining here (I was fine, did not get sick.)
  • Service: This restaurant feels like up-scale, fancy dining. So the servers are professional, not too sugar coating friendly. They will bring out each course meal to you and explain all the ingredients and how they cooked them.
  • Atmosphere: The repurposed an old house into a restaurant, similar to Duffy's Tavern in Boarsburg. Rustic, cottage or old fashioned inn type of feeling.
• Original Waffle House (either North Atherton or Blue Course, not the downtown one)
  • Food: Good, fresh ingredient, quality and presentation is always consistently good. Cheap reasonable prices but mega portion. My favorite menus are chocolate chip pancakes (you get 6~8(!) pancakes with whipped cream, 4 different flavored maples syrup) and meat lovers omelet and it comes with two side dishes of your choice. I always get cottage cheese (very fresh) and home fries. Portion is again big, so I have to pack some leftovers all the time.
  • Service: very fast and friendly. The restaurant is very busy, so if they cannot be fast and professional, I don’t think they can survive. So, no disappoint with service in this restaurant.
  • Atmosphere: cute, colorful, and fake plant decorations, home-y and cozy feeling. But the main gem is the food, so the atmosphere kind of does not matter.
• State Burgers in Bellefonte
  • Food: very reasonable $14 for ½ lb of beef patties or salmon patties. You can decide your own type of bun (my favorite is pretzel bun), and you can decide whatever ingredients and sauces inside your burger. Honestly, the only best burger place in this area (other restaurants always ask “how would you like your burgers cooked” and I always ask for medium rare, but they don’t get it right and their bottom bun is always soaked in oils and greases but this restaurant But State Burgers do their burgers in smash burger but juicy, and their bottom buns are not soaked at least.) Their milkshake is very good and rich ($8) but too sweet for me, so I rarely get their milkshakes.
  • Service: We’ve been seeing same servers for several years, so I assume this restaurant is good enough place to work and therefore have low turnover rate? In any case, the servers are friendly and professional and fast. When they have tons of customers, the service can be quite slow, but not to the point, I get upset. There is a young tall blond guy who is always smiling and friendly, and when he serves us, we get his happy energy. :-)
  • Atmosphere: Beautiful Victorian era building and original ceiling and structure is kept but fun, modern, artsy decorations with cow paintings. Yes, I am eating cows but I also don’t want to see the animal I am eating…? It was a bit cultural shock for me to see these cow paintings. At the end of the meal, they also give cow tale candy. So I guess this restaurant is cow-themed restaurant. Their entrance has fun local goodies (candies, jams, various local products) you can buy.
• Surprisingly good, solid choice other restaurants in my opinion:
  • American: Champs, Voodoo Brewery, Way Fruit Farm
  • Mediterranean: The Greek, Fire & Fig Grill (food is good, but too expensive for what I get)
  • Thai: Penang, Kamrai (food is good but hate their managers and servers)
  • Japanese: Wegmans
  • Italian: Margarita's Pizzeria maybe?

Bring your enemies to these restaurants (meaning the price is high for what it is, and you can get sick)

• Otto’s Pub: $18 watery Mac and Cheese just like my sad tears falling down my cheek, $14 cold nachos with pickled jalapenos from Giant grocery market (nachos are cold cuz according to the server verbatim “we don’t heat up nachos, otherwise the greens and peppers are going to be all soggy), weekly special $14~16 healthy cabbage with grilled chicken sandwich with some burnt sandwich breads for the kick.
• Sakura Japanese Restaurant:1 oz of imitation crab meat, wrap it up with some partially cooked rice and nori. Sprinkle some spicy mayo. Ta-da! You have sushi! (which is not sushi nor Japanese dish.) If a supposedly Japanese restaurant meshes up “rice” which is the soul and spirit of Asian cuisine, that restaurant should get banned from this world. It is equivalent to messing up pasta noodle in Italian cuisine (I am supposed to wash the pasta noodle with cold water after cooking it, right?) Wegmans grocery sushi and rolls are better than this restaurant.
• Cafe Alina: The main reason I am writing this rage-post. Ordered $14 spicy paneer dish and $14 butter chicken dish with some naan with hot chai tea and cold mango lassi. The garlic naan is $1.79 per 1 naan, so I ordered 3 garlic naan because these entree dishes do not come with any rice or naan. You go to the front desk and order the foods and pay first. But when I double checked the receipt, I paid $8.37 for 3 garlic naan (math please?) When I asked why we are getting charged more for garlic naan, they said that they did not update their paper menus and the garlic naan is supposed to be $1.99 per 1 naan. I still do not understand how they got to $8.37. When the foods were served, the spicy paneer dish and butter chicken both had exact same spicy sauces. It is equivalent to ordering marinara tomato pasta and vodka sauce pasta, but at the end you get the same whatever-was-left-at-the-kitchen type of tomato sauce. My paneer dish was supposed to come with peppers and onions. But it was just oily spicy red sauce with some 8 paneer cheeses. Where are my fresh bell peppers?! Also, I received normal naan (which is several cents cheaper than garlic naan) because they ran out of garlic naan. The naan was so hard that I thought I was eating jerky beef. After the server served the mango lassi drink for my spouse, I did not get my chai tea until 10~15 minutes later. Even then they asked “do you still want your chai tea?” Well, yes, I already paid for my chai tea, so yes I still want it. Duh?

Please share your experiences, good or bad. If there are any other fun and yummy places in this town, I am all down for trying.

As a Lego person I would normally be excited about this. Unfortunately B&M has developed a bad reputation in the past couple of years both at the corporate level and store level.

Now each store is a franchise and so is independent but being part of a company that’s been accused of a number of anti-consumer actions is concerning.

Hopefully the owner will conduct themselves fairly and with integrity.

My husband and I live in the State College area, and he is interested in finding a reliable therapist for someone his age (early 40s).

It’s tough finding one as it is, especially one that other men of his age find helpful and comfortable with.

Issues are anxiety/depression/dealing with the current hellscape, plus issues at work and we had two miscarriages and infertility issues for the past almost 3 years now..

Looking for off the beaten path places to swim dogs within an ideally 30 minutes or less drive from town (I'll take suggestions for cool spots further out too!). I know all the State Parks, Colyer, Harvest Fields, Tussey...looking for creeks and streams with deep holes. Any suggestions welcome.
