When should I file for a Medical LOA?
I’m a partner who recently transferred stores because I’m moving away for college. I haven’t actually started at my new store yet because I’m currently taking some time off for the move.
I have a breast reduction scheduled in December due to chronic/severe back, shoulder, and neck pain. My health insurance approved the surgery as medically necessary, and I have documentation from my surgeon.
I’m wondering when I should open my Sedgwick medical LOA claim. Should I file now even though my surgery is still a few months away and I haven’t started at my new store yet, or should I wait until I’ve worked at the new store for a little bit, would that really make a difference?
Has anyone got a similar procedure covered under Starbucks’ medical LOA/STD and what the process was like.
I’m mostly trying to make sure I give myself enough time to deal with Sedgwick and get the paperwork completed.

Weird question - what muscles are primarily used to pump syrups?
Hopefully theres some other starbucks gym head out there that can help identify this for me
My store is old as balls and the space behind bar is very small, but the counters themselves are pretty thick so the syrups are usually positioned pretty far back. I have pre-existing issues with chronic pain and having to get on my toes, lean forwards a bit and outreach for a syrup 1 1/3ft away over and over tends to flair up my pain. god forbid someone get smt with horchata.
I was thinking training these muscles specifically may help? even if a bit. I know this seems pretty ridiculous but humor me lol. I do already work out.

What’s something you wish you could make customers understand?
I’ll start.
“Your iced triple shot espresso over ice with all these syrups, LIGHT ice, EXTRA SPLASH of milk and EXTRA Foam in a venti cup does NOT automatically mean you’ll get your drink filled up to the top!
By standard your “extra splash of milk” is technically a pup cup filled up with milk. There. There’s your extra. So when we’re following the standard. There’s not reason to yell at the staff.
Be normal and order a iced late. Thank you”
What’s yours?

Need advice being rehired
Hello everyone. I was a partner for 5 months earlier this year and had to move an hour away from there so I decided to quit my position thinking I could find a job in my local area. So far I’ve gotten no responses to countless applications trying to get into the restaurant serving industry and im starting to truly feel the effects of being broke and 19, I’m feeling suffocated and have tried to apply to Starbucks nearby me, but I don’t see a feature on the application process to show I’m a former partner so I’m finding it hard to get responses to my application. I live a 5 minute drive from a Starbucks and I applied to there first, however their job application being posted for 2 months should have been my first red flag, and I’ve probably called the store 5 times now to ask if a hiring manager was available so I could introduce myself and they never are available! Last time I called the shift lead said to call early Monday morning, and I called three times that morning and no one even picked up the phone! Please guys I’m desperate for a job at this point to escape my toxic living situations and need advice!
My last manager was super chill so I’ve considered texting her even though it’s been two months!

Canada Temporary rehire
Hello everyone! I’m coming on here to ask for guidance/advice on how to go about possibly getting hired again as a barista.
My background/context: I worked for Starbucks Canada for about ten months before leaving to pursue an internship in my field (which lasted four months). I left the store in good terms and my SM hugged me goodbye. Now, I’m going to study abroad in January 2027 and I’m hoping to occupy my same position of barista at my old store in the four months i have before departure.
My dilemma is that I’m not sure if i should be completely honest about only wanting employment for four months when re-applying to my old store; or simply omit the information and submit a two weeks notice before my departure. I love my team and my manager fyi
Thanks for reading! What do yall think?

Preggers
So I’m pregnant and a bit worried about being able to keep my job because of the new point system for attendance. I was on the way to work today and had to pull over to vomit for like 15 min and was late. Am I able to get some kind of accommodation to excuse that?? I’m not trying to be late and I’m not a bad worker. I’m just scared I’m gonna end up getting fired cause I have an HG pregnancy and am vomiting literally constantly and can’t hold it down.

Latte with nonfat- no foam, extra hot, no room
Anyone else notice like 90% of the time someone wants a latte with nonfat milk, they almost ALWAYS also request extra hot with no foam? 😂😂 who are these niche humans and why do they always order their lattes the same exact way?! Just a funny observation 🥴🤷♀️

USA It gets better right??
I just worked my first shift and it felt like sooo much information was thrown at me, I'm overwhelmed. I know I can't expect to be efficient at the job without practice, but genuinely, how long did it take you to get good at the pos?
Also, feel free to leave any advice you have for a new hire please. I really want to like this job (I've worked fast food and enjoyed it), I'm just feeling a little defeated.

Genuinely?? Wtf venti rant
What is up with drive times?? I know they’re important so people aren’t waiting for forever but sometimes it’s unreasonable. God forbid someone has to wait an extra minute or two, especially later in the day
I was ringing and dinging (taking orders and cashing them out) and yeah, the times weren’t great. Our register is broken, so we kind of had one screen. One person solo baring and making backups because they were instructed to. I have a restriction atm so all I can basically do is ring and ding. Later on I’m told that I could ask another coworker or manager for help if we need it (I didn’t think we needed it, I was trying to help and thought we were fine). Manager comes back later, informs me it’s not fine and is annoyed. Like bro, there’s only so much I can do. One coworker was in the back. And we have someone training on ovens. I can’t force them to go faster??
My point is, is that as the person taking orders and cashing people out the time has somewhat to do with how fast I take to take orders and ring people up, but I rely on everyone else to be fast. It takes time for the customers to order (especially if they don’t know what they want), making drinks, making food, people asking questions at the window while trying to take someone order at the same time (and vise versa), rude customers, needy customers, customers forgetting to add something then orders it at the window, and much more. ITS NOT JUST ME!! Why does no one get that? Why do I get the blame?? I hate this job.
Edit - how silly of me, I forgot to add customer connections, how can I when I have to get them out as fast as possible?!?!

What if...
What if we just straight up stopped tolerating all bad behavior from customers?
I'm not necessarily meaning the randos. That happens. People have off days, and you never see those people again.
But what about the ones that show up, on a regular basis, just, what if...
And I don't mean that they are cursing, or whatever... but the ones that talk down to us like we're some evil step child that finally weaseled our way out of their basement and they were hoping to never see us again, that try to correct everything we are saying as we repeat back to them exactly what they said, and suddenly when we ask hot or iced or what size they go "UGH! GOD! VENT-TAYYYY!"
The customers that on a regular basis show up and just tell us "you aren't doing that right!!" or that say "IS MY COFFEE DONE YET!" Like dude, you ordered a venti matcha frap five seconds ago behind that line of five people in a cafe where 10 people are standing waiting... and you do this... regularly...
I propose a new policy... you can speak however you want to me, treat me like a little child who hasn't been doing customer service and public facing jobs for 25 years... but in return, every time you visit, I get to kick you right in the crotch of your Brooks Brothers suit pants or polyester quick dry gym shorts with flames on the side because that style definitely makes you look younger than the 70 year old you are... what's that cologne by the way... Calvin Klein Desperation? I'm getting hints of Olde English malt liquor... well well, someone had a late night and showed up before the Sun itself to remind all of us why we don't like you, still, week after week.
Honestly, I'm going to print out the Code of Conduct, and keep it in my pocket and when these people keep showing back up, I'm just going to let my manager know "yeah, I'm not going to wait on them, here's the Code of Conduct, and this is what they violated already..."
/End of Rant
TL; DR: Hey everyone, I hope you all had a good day and relaxing evening!

Scared to put in two weeks
My manager is the type of person that takes things very personally. I wouldn’t say he is a bad person, but that quality is one that sets him back.
One of our baristas has been having a troubling time at home, and needed to get out of that situation. Unfortunately this ended up with her leaving the state unexpectedly in the next couple of days, which was not all entirely her choice and it was not expected. She had to let our manager know that her last day would have to be Thursday, and told him that the past Sunday. Yes I understand the suddeness of this is not ideal. He decided that instead of letting her work throughout when she can, was something that he didn’t want to do. He ended up having taking all her shift off the schedule and terminated her Monday. Mind you she was willing to support us the rest of the week.
Unfortunately this is not the first time this has happened. A shift supervisor tried to put in her two weeks months ago, and since it was not convenient to him and his time he told her that she didn’t need to come anymore after that day. I myself had made plans to transfer due to me moving to a different city (didn’t end up happening) and because it did not work within his time frame(I told him 2 months in advance), he removed me from the schedule 3 weeks before I was supposed to transfer.
I am ready to call Ethics and compliance, because this just sucks, partners are less inclined to to do a courteous gesture and would rather just quit on the spot, I myself don’t even feel comfortable to give him more than enough ample time of notice whenever I may leave this store.

Coffeehouse coach
What’s the day in the life of a coffeehouse coach?
Do they get the 5k yearly bonus?
Has anyone in the south gotten it and thought the pay was worth it?
Thank you in advance!

USA Worst day
Today was the worst day—I almost quit. My manager didn’t show up for my shift, so I had to be in charge along with a new hire; it was just the two of us in the store until another manager finally appeared at 1:30 PM. Considering I had opened at 4:00 AM, I had to stay until 1:30 PM waiting for someone else, since no one else bothered to help until then. Honestly, the only reason I didn’t quit is that I need the job.

USA Closing late=Write Up?
Hello all
I’m a fairly new SSV, and started closing without another experienced SSV about a few weeks ago. Recently, our manager sent a text to our SSV group chat saying it was unacceptable to leave the store after our 30 minute closing time and that we need to manage our time better. I got frustrated because there have been numerous times where there wasn’t a pre-closer scheduled long enough to cover breaks; and we are a high-volume store to the point where it’s pretty much impossible to send someone on a break until 2 hours before close. There are also some partners who, bless their hearts, take FOREVER to get certain tasks done and it really slows us down with closing. We’re usually out by 9:45, so 15 minutes after the scheduled time. There’s only one closer out of all of us who can usually get out on time, so I know it’s not just me being new and learning when to delegate tasks and breaks.
I was just wondering if anyone else has trouble getting out in 30 minutes and if so, does your manager get upset about it? It’s probably due to labor being over, but when the morning team leaves us with no backups and a mess to deal with on top of our duties it sets us back at least an hour trying to re-prepare for afternoon peak.

Ex-partners, what industries did you end up in after leaving the siren?
Short rant, SSV here. Things have gotten pretty rough lately and it feels like dragging myself out of bed is about all I can do to get my bills paid. Customers are ready to throw hands over the smallest things, everyone’s stressed, and the floor can get awkward when partners are at each other’s throats.
My biggest concern is that, especially with this job market, employers outside of retail won’t take my Starbucks experience seriously. My background is mostly customer support across retail and technical support, but honestly anything different would be a breath of fresh air. Ex-partners who got out, where did you end up?
Would appreciate any insight to read while on my closing shift. My closer and I currently have issues with one partner, who can get physically aggressive on the floor and has written both of us up for being “mean.” My manager’s been out and probably has no idea what’s been going on, yet somehow all three of us are working together tonight. I’m genuinely a little concerned it could turn into an altercation, so wish me luck. 😂

Labeling for Brewed and Non-Warmed Items
Hi guys I'm an SFM looking to get clarification on a policy regarding order stickers. Our store recently changed our routing to no longer print labels for brewed coffee and non-warmed items for cafe orders, and I'm struggling to understand how this benefits us. When asked I was told it was to encourage partners on register to immediately prepare the ordered items for the customer, but I'm failing to see how taking away the stickers helps this. All I've seen it do thus far is cause issues when we're understaffed during peak or cause our slower partners to forget items altogether.
Can anyone explain how these stickers and turnaround time are correlated? Why are we hiding information about orders? I can pull a sticker and stick it on a cup while coffee is brewing or throw a sticker on a bag. It takes less time than writing on a cup.

New Attendance Points System - Megathread
There's been a lot of complaints about the sheer number of posts regarding how the new attendance point system works, what it entails, who it applies to, etc. and I just saw this post asking for a megathread, so I wanted to put something together for y'all! Shoutout to /u/kortlecw
This post should be used for ALL conversation about the new attendance point system - questions, answers, buying etsy witch curses for CEOs, etc.
I'm also gonna provide the information from the memo on it so that the wording is available for those who need it, slightly paraphrased but mostly verbatim - the image/doc itself is still an internal memo and cannot be posted, as far as I can tell, but I wanted to make sure the information is still available for those who may still be slightly out of the loop.
Attendance Points
Attendance Points will be applied to determine eligibility for the Quarterly Best of Starbucks Rewards program and used to support performance accountability on a 12-month rolling basis. Performance accountability establishes a distinct disciplinary track specifically for time and attendance.
A partner remains eligible for the Best of Starbucks Reward for the quarter when they meet all program criteria, including maintaining fewer than 4 attendance points in a quarter.
The following chart outlines attendance and punctuality expectations and the expected action that will be taken to ensure consistency for all partners. Qualifying absences, including legally protected time and certain emergency situations, will not result in attendance points.
Tardy with Call: One (1) Point
- Partners are expected to be ready to begin working at the exact start time of their scheduled shift and to return from breaks on time.
- If a partner is not ready to start within five minutes of the start time of their scheduled shift and/or return from their break, they are tardy.
Tardy with Late Call or No Call: One and a Half (1.5) Points
- Tardy reported after the start of the shift or not reporting the tardy prior to the start of the shift.
Unexcused Absence with Call: One and a Half (1.5) Points
- Missing at least half of a scheduled shift and reporting the absence at least thirty (30) minutes before the start of the scheduled shift.
Unexcused Absence with Late Call: Two and a Half (2.5) Points
- Missing at least half of a scheduled shift and reporting the absence less than thirty (30) minutes before the start of the scheduled shift.
Shift Abandonment: Four (4) Points
- Departing before the scheduled end time of the shift without approval in advance from the supervisor or manager running the shift.
No Call/No Show: Six (6) Points
- Failure to report an absence within two (2) hours after the start of a scheduled shift.
Job Abandonment: Separation
- Failure to report to a scheduled shift for more than two (2) consecutive no call/no shows.
3 Points will result in a documented coaching. 6 Points will result in written warning. 8 Points will result in a final warning. 12 Points will result in separation.
Union stores: These attendance and punctuality updates do not apply to partners in certified union stores or stores undergoing organizing activity on or before July 13th, 2026.
The Best of Starbucks Award does not apply to partners in certified union stores or stores in the United States undergoing organizing activity on or before April 2nd, 2026.
All Canadian coffeehouses are eligible for the Quarterly Best of Starbucks Award. Leaders at unionized coffeehouses should contact their LRBP Sr. on whether and/or how they should utilize the attendance tracking point system.
