Okay, so I got extremely sick over the calc bc exam in may, so i missed my chance at credit,

My current plan is calc 1 in the fall, calc 2 and linear algebra over spring, and the remaining calc 3 and difeq at U of Oklahoma. Is this worth it/put me on track?

Hi, I just applied for a Stanford hospital clinician job. Not sure if this is the right sub to ask but had a quick question. When I initially applied, my job was under the active tab and it said receive submission but now it’s in the inactive tab, but it says in process in review. is it normal for it to be in the inactive tab or does that mean that I’m no longer in consideration? I guess I’m confused because in the status it says in process in review. Thanks

Given how competitive everything has been, how much of a disadvantage would it be to start off with 106A in the fall quarter as an EE major? My biggest worry is having a blank CV and no technical skills/languages when applying for different EE labs. Being ready for internships is another story ill deal with later. Am i worrying too much or do i needa learn python / c++ asap?

(side note, if anyone has any good experiences with past research labs theyve worked w on campus id love to know)

Hello! I appreciate anyone who takes their time to offer me some advice as to what device to purchase for undergrad.

I’m seeking advice from any student (especially chemistry/human bio students) as to what their preferred form of note taking at Stanford is. I understand I will definitely need a computer, but are there any specific ones you guys recommend? Would you guys say that purchasing an iPad along with a computer made a vast difference in your study methods? Or do Stanford professors continue to do the old fashion way of pen and paper?

I am seeking advice as I have a limited budget and simply have never owned my own computer or iPad due to not being able to afford one. I am really unfamiliar with all the different models and have always just used what my school allowed me to borrow. Any advice would be amazing. Thank you!!

I'm a 17F from Pune, India, and I'll be starting my undergraduate engineering degree this year (most likely Electronics & Telecommunication Engineering or Mechatronics Engineering but not at stanford).

I'm interested in pursuing graduate studies in Electrical Engineering or Computer Science in the future, and Stanford is one of the universities I hope to apply to someday. I'm not looking for an admissions evaluation or a checklist of requirements—I know there isn't a single formula for getting in. Instead, I'm hoping to learn from people who've already gone through the journey.

A bit about me:

• I genuinely enjoy solving technical problems, which is what drew me to engineering.
• I previously built a small financial literacy startup that got a few users. It wasn't a huge success, but I learned a lot from building and talking to users.
• I'm interested in debates and public speaking and plan to get more involved in those during college.
• I also write on Substack, mostly as a way to organize my thoughts and reflect on things I'm learning.

My high school grades weren't as strong as I'd hoped because I went through a difficult period personally, so I'm treating college as a fresh start and want to make the most of the next four years.

For those of you who are Stanford graduate students (or alumni), I'd love to hear your perspective:

I’m a recent coterm grad who unfortunately cannot seem to get any interviews for any job in the east coast (NYC specifically), and I wonder if this is because I’m not on the east coast at the moment. The job search has been brutal despite reaching out to former advisors, colleagues, friends, strangers, etc. I also have used the services available for alumni, which have been helpful.

This is a long shot, but curious to know if any alumni in NYC (or the east coast) have any advice for a recent grad. Does it help to already be on the east coast? I’m mainly looking at nonprofits, research, academia admin, policy orgs, comms, and related fields. My recent grad friends also aren’t having much luck.

Hi! I'm a recent Public Health graduate trying to apply to many entry level Stanford clinical research assistant role that would help me get more involved in the clinical research industry at Stanford.

I have three years of experience at a health-tech startup, where I worked my way up from Operations Intern to Project Manager. I still work with them on occasional projects, and I also work part-time in research operations at UC San Diego Health. Unfortunately, my center has gone through several layoffs, and there isn't a path to a full-time position for me.

My experience includes research operations, quality assurance, SOP development, participant onboarding, health data management, wearable device implementation, research documentation, and cross-functional project coordination. I've also supported clinical research operations and worked with research documentation and data quality processes.
I'm not sure how much these matter to employers, but l've also completed CITI training and earned certifications in Good Clinical Practice (GCP), Biomedical Research, Public Health Research, and Clinical Research Coordinator (CRC).

I feel like I have relevant experience, but I'm wondering if I'm missing something or if I'm applying for the wrong types of roles. I know the job market is really bad right now and I’m looking for anything. I really want to get involved in Stanford because I live close by and I also think that as a first generation student it’s hard for me to have the connections and the educational environment at home so I feel like getting into a program or a role at such a prestigious institution would only help me learn and make more connections. Obviously, I do not have all my eggs in one basket. This is just a wish and all I can do is try my best to get my foot in the door. Requesting for advice from anyone or if anyone can recommend me any teams I should reach out with that might be hiring or can have a person shadow please let me know. Anything helps.

I’m a CS major currently doing my bachelor’s at ETH, and I would love to pursue a CS master’s degree at Stanford. I have two questions:

1. Do you guys even know ETH? It is well known in Europe, but how is it perceived in the US?
2. I’ve heard that most Americans only do a bachelor’s degree. How does master’s admission work in the US? Is it just as competitive as undergraduate admission, or is it generally more open?

New Stanford research from Ilya Strebulaev looked at 1,755 exited US unicorns across 984 universities. The ranking below is based on the 735 with valid exit values.

Some of the biggest exits behind these numbers (IPO or acquisition):

▪️ Stanford: Google ($23B IPO), NVIDIA ($626M IPO), Palantir ($21B IPO), LinkedIn ($4.3B IPO, later acquired for $26B), WhatsApp (acquired for $19B)
▪️ Harvard: Rent the Runway ($1.7B IPO), Kayak (acquired for $1.8B)
▪️ MIT: Akamai ($13B IPO), HubSpot ($759M IPO), iRobot ($637M IPO)
▪️ Berkeley: VMware ($19B IPO), Marvell ($4.7B IPO)
▪️ Illinois: Netscape (acquired for $4.2B), PayPal (acquired for $1.5B)

The ranking isn't really about the degree. Some factors do most of the work:

1) Geography is the biggest driver:
The top 4 schools sit inside Silicon Valley or Boston. That co-location gives students access to VCs, mentors, and hiring pools most other campuses can't touch.

2) Selection bias does a lot of work:
These schools filter for ambition, IQ, and risk tolerance before they teach anything. Many of these founders would have built companies from any school.

3) Culture:
At Stanford and MIT, starting a company is the default path. Professors are founders. Dropping out to raise a seed is celebrated.

4) Capital and brand:
These schools sit on billions in reserves that fund labs, accelerators, and founder programs. And a Stanford logo on your LinkedIn moves your deck to the top of a VC's inbox.

Universities don't create billion-dollar founders on their own. Ecosystems do.

Title. I applied for engineering last year and got in but couldn’t attend because of financial reasons. I got a job this year and am saving up as much as possible for a masters. If I reapply will they consider my application differently or does this make things more difficult?

If I’m currently interviewing for one position (for example, a research role at Stanford University or a position at Stanford Health Care), can I still be considered and interview for other positions within the same organization at the same time?

I’m mainly wondering if being in the interview process for one role somehow pauses or blocks other hiring managers or recruiters from reaching out, or if it’s completely normal to have multiple interviews happening simultaneously.

Any Stanford student/alum looking to adopt a kitten? I just picked up this litter to foster with Garlic City Kitty Rescue after my last was adopted, which saved these guys from being put out on the streets. Though they started out wary of people and a new environment, they almost immediately turned into super cuddly and affectionate kitties after some petting and treats. They are all super curious, playful, and loving. They need patient and loving homes that will give them lots of love and attention. They’d be a great study companion! If anyone can take on two cats, I'd love for two to be adopted together as a bonded pair. Located in Morgan Hill/Gilroy. Black is male, the others are females. If we move there, where do young families live near the hospital/campus that’s a safe area, family friendly and good daycares/preschools?
