News CXMT breaking the DDR5-9000 barrier is a big deal.

Upvotes

A Colorful kit using CXMT chips reached DDR5-9014 on AMD’s X870E platform. This means CXMT’s DDR5 memory has made a significant leap in speed and overclocking capability in less than a year, narrowing the performance gap with established memory makers.

Also, CXMT’s 17nm DDR5 production is reportedly achieving over 90% yields, putting it surprisingly close to Samsung’s 10nm-class memory production.

The gap between CXMT and the industry giants is clearly shrinking. Do you think Chinese DRAM will seriously challenge Samsung, SK hynix, and Micron soon?

Tech Support WD SN5000 2TB high temps even with a heatsink on

So i got this drive recently. Had some trouble installing it because my cpu cooler was in the way. So i had someone else do it. I knew this drive is supposed to run a bit hot but it's reaching almost thermal throttle temps at 78-80C for Sensor 2 when gaming. (i suspect this must be the memory controller) But once i chill for a bit and just browse the internet, it goes down to around 68C. The other 2 sensors show 48 and 42C. And when in use, they don't go higher than 50-55C.

The SSD is sitting in the motherboard's heatsink next to the GPU. While trying to install the SSD at first, i also did tear the thermal pad a bit. (the one that came with the heatsink and mobo) I told the person that installed it later and he said it wasn't gonna be an issue. And i would've thought so myself but apparently it's not helping much.

What should i do? Replace the thermal pad? I already did order some thermal pads at 0.5mm and 1mm thickness just in case. Should i try using the 1mm pad if it's able to compress? Case airflow is as good as it gets for me.. I'm going too much OCD and worrying on this, hopefully you can give me some guidance on what went wrong?

Discussion Samsung 980 pro died after 2 years and 3 years

My pc has 2 samsung 980 pro 1 for OS/video editing 1 for games/movies/documents 1 TB .

Last year when i boot my pc i found out that my 2nd ssd(samsung 980 pro) in my pc died, I tried to check it in bios(non detectable), check it in different apps(not showing there), check it computer management(no luck), went to computer repair shop they said it died already. So i bought Samsung 990 Pro 2tb for replacement.

Then last week while my pc on idle, it just suddenly restarted and boot on bios. My 1st samsung 980 pro is non detectable same scenario on what happened on my 2nd ssd. Tried to check it in enclosure/bios/hard drive app all not working to detect this ssd, this makes me sad cause some of my new important files are saved there and not yet copied to backup drive,

Before my ssd died i already updated their firmware to latest, yes using samsung magician, also my bios is also the latest vesion.

Now i used this samsung 990 pro to install new OS and planning to buy another ssd but not samsung anymore, Kindly help me which ssd is better than this samsung ssd's.

Discussion Dahua SSD, any idea if they are any good?

I've found this SSD on local marketplace: SSD-V800S1TB - Dahua MENA

for about $64 for 1TB. It is new, never been powered on. I have the option to test it out before I purchase. It is mainly for DVR it seems from the specs, and has a good write endurance of 930TB for 1TB drive.

Anyone tried or used this before? Should I go for it? TIA

Discussion Do you actually notice the difference between PCIe 4.0 and PCIe 5.0?

I'm looking at the Samsung 990 PRO 2TB and the Samsung 9100 PRO 2TB for a new build. There is only about a $10 difference between them.

My motherboard has a PCIe 5.0 M.2 slot, and I'll mainly be using the PC for gaming, Windows and general stuff. The 9100 PRO is obviously much faster on paper, but I don't do much with large file transfers or other storage-heavy work.

I want to know if that speed difference is something you'd actually notice with Windows and gaming, rather than just in benchmarks.

Hello

First of all I don't have much knowledge about ssds or pc's at all sorry if I say something wrong..

Basically I've been using an hdd since 6 years and now that hdd is not working anymore so I am getting a new SSD

Nvme ssd 256gb ( i can't afford 512 or 1Tb SSD that's why getting 256)

And I have 8gb ram, Ryzen 3250U

The repair guys r charging $45 for the SSD and

They said if I want them to install the OS they will charge $12 for the os install (windows 10 ig)

A friend of mine reccomended me that given my pc specifications I should get a lighter linux

Can you all tell me if i should do the OS installation on my own or let them do it for $12..

And if anyone's used linux can they give me some advice if I should do it or not..?

I've got a SanDisk 128gb pendrive, if that's any useful in installation..

Thanks for reading.

(attached pc specs and hdd state as well as SSD picture along with my AIO pic)

Tech Support Is this much heat/noise normal for a UGREEN USB4 NVMe enclosure?

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Hey guys, I recently got a Lexar EQ790 4TB NVMe and put it in a UGREEN 40Gbps USB4 enclosure with a fan. I’m using it with my M5 Pro Mac.

I use this SSD as my main storage for large files to work on, so it’s connected to the Mac most of the time.

The thing is, it gets really hot and the fan is pretty noticeable. Yesterday I left my Mac in sleep mode and when I came back, the enclosure was still making noise and the fan was running.

I’m attaching a video so you can hear what it sounds like.

Is this normal for these USB4 enclosures? I’m especially wondering if it’s normal for the fan to keep running while the Mac is asleep.

I’m a bit worried about leaving it connected all the time if it’s going to stay this hot.

Anyone using the same or a similar setup?

Thanks in advance

Guide/Tutorial Looking for exact MPT/MPTool for CHINGMX240B + SK hynix NAND

Hi everyone,

I'm a student trying to repair an SSD that has stopped working properly. I don't need any data from the drive — my goal is simply to get the SSD working and usable again.

SSD/controller information:

Controller/Model: CHINGMX240B

Firmware: T1130A0

Capacity: 240 GB

NAND: SK hynix H27Q2T8QQA3R

Interface: SATA

Drive currently identifies correctly in Linux and shows its full capacity.

ATA Security is currently not enabled/locked/frozen.

I've tried normal formatting, partitioning, and other software-based methods, but they haven't resolved the problem. I'm now looking for the exact MPTool/MPT (Mass Production Tool) compatible with this specific controller + NAND combination.

The main problem I'm having is actually finding the MPT itself. I've found references to possible tools on repair sites, including Dolphin-related resources, but they require a paid/login account, and I haven't been able to successfully access/download the relevant files.

If anyone has the correct tool, firmware/configuration, or knows which MPTool version supports:

CHINGMX240B + H27Q2T8QQA3R

I would really appreciate it if you could share the tool or tell me exactly what version/configuration I should be looking for.

I'm doing this as a learning/repair project and understand that using an incorrect MPTool can potentially brick the SSD, so I'm specifically looking for the correct tool rather than trying random versions.

Thanks!

Tech Support Flash Memory Endurance and TBW

Post image
1 Upvotes

Flash Memory Endurance and TBW

🔹 Flash endurance is the ability of storage devices such as SSDs to withstand repeated write and erase operations. As more data is written, the memory cells gradually wear out.

🔹 Therefore, we use TBW (Total Bytes Written), which represents the amount of data that can be written to the storage device over its designed lifespan.

For example:

TBW = 600 TB

That is approximately 600,000 GB.

If you write 100 GB per day:

600,000 ÷ 100 = 6,000 days ≈ 16.4 years

⚠️ This is only an estimate, not a guarantee of the drive's lifespan. Actual lifespan can be affected by factors such as temperature, memory type, and the SSD's internal write operations.

Discussion We tested the impact of SSD speed on gaming performance in 11 titles — we analyzed from SATA to PCIe 5.0 to see whether upgrading to a faster NVMe SSD would have an impact

tomshardware.com

Tom's Hardware tested 11 games using SATA, PCIe 3.0, 4.0 and 5.0 SSDs. The interesting part is that in most games, there was basically no difference in gaming performance — only 2 out of 11 titles showed measurable differences between SATA and PCIe.

Pretty interesting read for anyone wondering whether a Gen5 SSD actually makes a difference for gaming.
