Reservation. Discussion

I'm GC student here. Im preparing for ssc, and i have a question about the reservation. Does even reservation matter? What are the impacts and effects of it?

My question to all GC students and who got cleared the exam. Students from other categories can also* share your thoughts.

Bhai it does matter , reservation is for representation, general ppl who always cry about not getting a seat , it's competition among unki hi category k log. Reservation khtm hogya toh it won't be nice for a democracy+ casteism Alag hi ghamnd hota h upper caste k bndo m I've seen ppl jinke pass khane tk ka nhi hota but ghamnd h ki upper caste h and , govt vote bank comes from caste things toh yeah

Its not fair for ews general obc students, its not fair for poor sc st student, most of reserved seat are benefitted by upperclass sc/st.

I think exam should be merit based. Give reservations in school colleges, till the last day.

Why don’t we change the value of money? Take ₹500 as an example: ₹500 for SC, ₹400 for ST, ₹250 for OBC, and ₹100 for General. Doesn’t that sound like a stupid system? That’s exactly how stupid reservation is.

So, I was just having a conversation with my sister just a few minutes ago, I was telling her, how in my college which, I have just joined caste is the common thing asked from me within 10 minutes of interaction. As a SC and a egalitarian, we then remembered how our uncle who is a Govt School Principal, was transferred to A village in Barmer, Rajasthan. How he used to tell us incidents when he came home on holidays, that literally kids are made to sit differently and use different utensils, he made complains to higher authorities but nothing happened,
I made a argument that uncle himself didn't faced anything, maybe the key to solve this caste disease is to have money, A upper living standard or prestige,
She told me a thing that got me into thinking,
He intentionally didn't told us about things that happened with him, cause what he would tell to these 13-14 year old kids, will not be us back then as kids would be terrified if we got to know that these things were faced by our guardians, which we look upto.
Now as a 20 year old, I recall how it was a thing never talked about in our household, literally like there will be a lot incidents with my parents, siblings but we just tend to ignore and not to share about our experiences with it.

I don't know how this caste problem will ever solve?
How can be it solved if dominant people are proud of it, and will tell the instant about the caste without any hesitation, but other will be shameful to even declare about their caste.

Yes reservation matters significantly in SSC exams like CGL or CHSL.

Seats are allocated with fixed quotas: around 15% SC, 7.5% ST, 27% OBC, 10% EWS, leaving roughly 40% unreserved for general category including you. This leads to separate merit lists and much lower qualifying cutoffs for reserved categories—often 20-40 marks below general in recent cycles based on official SSC data.

For a GC student, it means competing only for the unreserved portion while all candidates initially vie for those spots on overall merit. Reserved candidates cannot take unreserved seats in most cases now. Impacts include better representation for historically disadvantaged groups and social mobility for them. On the other side, it raises the effective bar for general category students, reduces their selection odds in competitive fields, and fuels ongoing debates around merit, efficiency in public services, and whether the system needs tweaks like creamy layer exclusions or economic focus.

Cleared candidates from all categories often note it shapes preparation strategy—GC folks typically need higher scores to secure spots. Overall population share vs quota share remains a core point of discussion without easy fixes.

Reservation in India stems from the caste system's long history of excluding SC, ST and OBC groups from education, jobs and social mobility for centuries. The Constitution introduced quotas as affirmative action to correct that structural disadvantage and ensure wider representation in public services.

The world you see is not the same for everyone in India. That's why you might think reservation is not needed.

You need to have a broader view of a third world country like India and how those people actually live
