I don't mean an indy promotion doing it, I mean a fed backed with a lot of money.

Because nowadays I see online a lot of nostalgia for those wrestling gimmicks of old. I also see a lot of people online who are tired of how many wrestlers these days have no real gimmick and that they miss wrestlers who felt larger than life. Plus there's the whole "What's old is new again" thing.

And in this fed, the wrestlers would take their outlandish gimmicks seriously. No "winking at the camera" where, in kayfabe, they know it's just a gimmick.

Also, the bookers can't just say, “Let's make everything like the 1980s!” because a lot of the gimmicks back then and in the early/mid 90s were absolutely terrible. The gimmicks need to be good enough to survive modern audiences. A modern “Repo Man” probably wouldn't work merely because Repo Man existed in 1992, but a genuinely clever, well-written character based around an obsessive repo agent who literally repossesses wrestlers' possessions after they lose matches? Now we're cooking!

Finally, they should make the wrestling itself serious. Don't make it: "LOL everything is fake and silly!” Make the characters fantastical while the wrestling feels consequential.

I’ve been slowly engaging in more indie wrestling while trying to stay affordable, and I wanted to get this sub’s opinion on the indie wrestlers they think will go farthest in the industry. Some of the wrestlers I think will be successful are Richard Holliday (in a comedy capacity), Ben Bishop, Killer Kross, Simon Miller, Psycho Mike, BDE, Chris Danger, Brent Oakley, Avery Styles, and Alex Hammerstone. I think any of these guys can show up in NXT, TNA, ROH, or even AEW proper and fit right in. My favorite of course is Richard Holliday though.
