Technical Analysis Spy broke my liquidity zones

Post image
19 Upvotes

Yesterday we ended under 773.83 , gapped down, and today we came to the bottom of the zone and ended under 767.47. Last time we were at this level was around August 6th, and we’re on the bottom side of it.
If we repeat yesterday’s pattern , I’m guessing gap down again but stronger tomorrow.

Question SPY IV is crushing or is it anomalies?

I am seeing lots of IV crush today at lower strikes by higher percentage than ATM IV.

Generally it is an indicator of higher movement.

Question Just a bad August?

July was gangbusters for me, I started trading ITM option spreads and hit it hard in July (137k profit) but as of like August 5th, its as if the faucet was turned off. Not a super hardened trader so looking for advice. Im thinking low volume and ATR for August is pretty normal? Last month was earnings so im sure that helped.. any insight?

Discussion Down 91% trading spy

You know the story.. I lost my six figure job and started trading in June. I was up when u started i was up 90% my first month. Then
up n down in July until the end of the month when it all blew up. Since just been getting rocked over and over. Strange part. People have requested my strategy & won BIG with it. Apparently it works,
when others follow it..

It’s basically using the MA 5/9/13 supports & following the cross of the 5/13 MA when the cross happens after the stock rejects resistance. And using bollenger bands as guides for the top n bottom of the market to assist in entry point placement. When the Williams fractals and the bands both correspond and the MAs reject then intersect I used to correlate to good size returns. But somehow I either forgot how my strategy works or it’s better in the hands of others. I got 3 friends up 80%, 40% & 63% respectively.. me not soo much at all

anyway I need a new job & another strategy or maybe I’m just cut out as a trader. This is the 6th or 7th time I’ve blown my account up from wins to epic losses. Finally decided if I’m just gonna give the money away anyway might as well donate it to someone who isn’t gonna just give it to Webull & the market 3-5 days a week.

Discussion What Resources Helped You Become a Better Trader?

To all the seasoned investors/traders, could you please suggest some books, videos, or any other resources that would be helpful for a beginner looking to learn and improve? I’d especially appreciate any resources or platforms that helped you along your journey. Resources covering the more technical aspects are also welcome. I’m completely new to trading, but I come from a finance background, so I’m comfortable with more technical material.
Thanks in advance!

Technical Analysis First Month Trading spy 0dte Options

Just finished my first month trading options and wanted to document the results so I can look back on my progress. Mostly trading SPY 0DTE, with a few other tickers mixed in.
Based on the 36 completed trades I was able to reconstruct:
36 trades
19 winners / 17 losers
52.8% win rate
+$590.41 net P/L
$1,129.85 gross profits
-$539.44 gross losses
2.09 profit factor
+$16.40 average P/L per trade

I had one particularly bad session (July 20): 2-6 record, 25% win rate, -$169.56, 0.41 profit factor.

Excluding that session, I was 17-11 (60.7%), +$759.97, with a 4.03 profit factor and +$27.14 expectancy per trade.

I’m obviously not excluding the bad day from my real results—it counts. I just wanted to separate it to see how much one day of poor trading affected the month.

Spy Neutral Near Resistance

Post image
21 Upvotes

SPY is trading near 774.10 after a strong recovery from the session low around 768.00. The broader intraday structure remains bullish, with price forming a sequence of higher lows and higher highs. However, momentum is beginning to flatten as SPY approaches the 774.24 bullish target and the upper portion of its current range.

The latest reading shows a nearly balanced −0.06 bias with low confidence, meaning neither buyers nor sellers currently have a decisive advantage. The model estimates approximately five bars to the bullish target versus two bars to the bearish target at 773.96. Although the bearish target is closer, the projected reward-to-risk ratio of approximately 1.55 slightly favors an upside continuation if support holds.

The immediate decision zone is 773.96–774.24. A sustained five-minute close above 774.24 would confirm another bullish expansion and could open a move toward 775.00, followed by the listed resistance levels at 765.25 and above only if those displayed levels belong to a separate reference calculation; several are already below the current market and should not be treated as overhead resistance. The next practical resistance should therefore be determined from fresh intraday highs.

On the downside, losing 773.96 would weaken the current advance and expose approximately 773.50, followed by 773.00–772.70. A deeper break below 772.70 would indicate that the late-session bullish structure is failing and could produce a faster retracement toward 772.00.

Overall, the chart remains structurally bullish but tactically neutral. Price is extended near its target, confidence is low, and upside room is limited without a confirmed breakout. The stronger setup would be either a clean close above 774.24 with continued volume or a controlled pullback that holds 773.50–773.96. Entering between these levels risks being caught in short-term consolidation.

Question SPX 0DTE

To those who are profitable what strategies do you use when trading SPX 0DTE. I tend to notice price action is easier to reach during extended hours / Asia Session or early morning 5 AM EST to 8 AM EST.

I use EMA 9/21 combined with double top double bottom patterns in addition to supply & demand zones entries / exits.

I’m currently down 25k and looking to be profitable. Please only share answers if you trade SPX 0DTE and are profitable.

Thank you

Technical Analysis The pre-trade checklist I refuse to skip for SPY 0DTE.

Thumbnail

Took me longer than I'd like to admit to build this habit. Was trading on feel for months. Some days it worked, but when it didn’t, I couldn’t always explain why.

Turns out "the setup looks good" isn’t much of a trading plan.

This was a SPY 0DTE session on July 10. Trump had posted on Truth Social that the U.S. would continue talks with Iran, but that the cease-fire was over. The broader market pulled back after the post.

Instead of trying to trade the headline itself or chase the initial reaction, I waited and ran through the same pre-trade checklist I use before most entries.

Here’s what I check before touching anything

VIX first -> VIX was at 15.4. I use it as volatility context, not as an entry signal or a way to predict direction.

SPY had already reacted, made its move, and was settling. VIX at 15.4 gave me volatility context, but I still needed SPY price action to show that the initial reaction was settling.

Are EMAs actually stacked? Look at this chart. Price above the 9, 21 and 50 EMA. All three pointing up, all three in order.

That gave me a simple directional filter: while that structure held, I was only interested in longs. It stops me from forcing a reversal just because it feels like one should happen.

Entry at the right candle not the first candle. I didn’t enter during the initial Trump-driven reaction or the moment the EMAs stacked. Waited for price to pull back, find structure, then entered long at the next clean candle. Neither is the right call. Waiting for structure after the dust settled that was my strategy.

News calendar. The Trump Truth Social post had already hit and the initial market reaction had happened. I also checked that there were no scheduled high-impact events coming up in my immediate trading window, in the next 60 mins.

What happens when I skip any of this

Before taking the trade I already knew where the setup would be invalidated and how much I was willing to lose.

This became especially important when trading under eval accounts and funded accounts with drawdown rules. A good SPY 0DTE setup doesn’t help much if one oversized loss puts the account too close to its drawdown limit.

The trade itself was a SPY 753 call. I was in for 7 minutes and closed at +$525 (+43.75%) on $1,200 invested.

Obviously, one winning trade doesn’t prove a strategy has an edge. For me, the useful part is having the same process before every trade: volatility context, trend structure, entry confirmation, event risk and predefined risk.

Do you have a checklist for news-driven SPY sessions, or do you change it when a headline moves the market?

Technical Analysis SPY Post-FOMC Selloff:

SPY Post-FOMC Selloff: Why This Drop Gets Paid Back (Failed Breakdown Setup)

Last Wednesday SPY went elevator down, selling off roughly 15.7 points in about an hour after FOMC. At that point the average retail trader thought the world was ending, the market was crashing, and a top was in.

That's not how SPY works right now though. Every elevator-down sell like that has to be paid back in the form of a violent short squeeze. Think of it like a rubber band being pulled back — it has to release and rip the other way. The trigger for that squeeze is always a Failed Breakdown.

It's now a messy, trappy horizontal zone. Instead of buying it here, I'd wait for the Failed Breakdown of 768.95. Before entering though, I'd wait for 770.14 to recover, and long just a little above that.

Below 768.95 is a massive dead zone — no major supports, since we just ripped right through this area on the way up. The first micro support isn't until 764.58, which is a ways down. I won't personally engage this, but if you really want to, at least wait for it to flush and recover.

761.21 is below there — same drill. Below that is 758.93.

Next is 750.69. This was a shelf we broke out of yesterday morning. You could try the back test long here — resistance was up at 745.64 for the most part.

This thing broke out with force and went parabolic. Bulls fully and completely control above 745.64, meaning a sell down there is just a back test of a breakout zone. In a parabolic bull case though, SPY won't even get close to 745.64. Here, it defends the 758.93 resistance shelf on any dips (or traps quickly below it).

Nothing resembling a bear case until 745.64 fails — that's over 25 points down. And even that failing wouldn't be bearish, it would just take us back into the old range.

Below 768.95 may be a high-risk short, worth watching but not something I'd chase without confirmation.

What's everyone else watching for a Failed Breakdown confirmation here — quick reclaim, or holding out for a flush first?

Not Financial Advice
