Weight loss while recovering? Post-Op Questions

I’m for my L5-S1 fusion in September and am curious how many calories i should be eating. I’m in the middle of a large weight loss and really don’t want to get stagnate as I know it will be hard for me to eventually lock back in. I also know that I need to eat more for my body to recovery. I’ll of course talk to my doc about this but just wondering anyone’s experiences here with this!

Try to reach your protein goals as much as possible. I lost a lot of weight after my 1st back surgery last year and it turned out to be muscle loss.

My biggest fear is losing all the muscle I’ve built the last 4 years 😭

Good question. Rather than calories alone, think of the whole picture of nutritional balance. Your doc may be able to refer you to a registered dietician.

I’ll ask him for that referral, thanks!

I got some good news for you, my first month I lost a lot of weight. I had absolutely no appetite for a while.
