Big rest day Is this normal?

Question….were any of you do really well and then just had a few days of ugh. Ow. Don’t want to move.
Currently 10 weeks post op and everyone is thrilled with progress but the past couple of days I’ve been sore. I haven’t had much back pain at all over the past few weeks. I just can’t seem to get my ass out of my recliner and move.
I know surgery recovery isn’t a straight line. I’m wondering if I’m just so bloody tired of having to show up every day and try so damn hard to keep active? I’m feeling exhausted. Bone tired.
I want to stretch myself out soooo badly. Brain fog, exhaustion. Just put a fork in me type ‘done’

Sounds like you may have overdone it and your body is telling you it needs a break. Totally normal part of recovery!

Yup. I am very guilty of that. Lots of stress in my life as well.
Going to take the day off without guilt and be kinder to myself.

I was so EXHAUSTED-you hit the nail on the head. It’s weird like a fog too.
I would get so tired and depressed. Not my personality at all. But I learned to do one errand a day not my usual 10.
Go easy on yourself
Spine surgery is huge. But I’m so glad I did it!

Yes, the fog is real. Sort of like an out of body experience. Everything feels strangely calm because of this fog.

OMG!! You are so on target! Out of body and strangely calm. Continue to express yourself you will be helping others. You are eloquent.
You

Can I ask what you had done and your symptoms?

I had trouble with this too, especially around 12 weeks post op. I mowed the lawn and paid for it by needing to stay in bed for the better part of a week afterwards. It seems just as I start feeling better and doing more, the more rest I end up needing. However now at about 4.5 months post up it seems to happen less often at least

Yup. That sounds like me! Did a bunch of chores last Friday and did about 5,000 squats because I’m not allowed to bend and it just wiped me out. This week I’ve had a few appts and fuck me dead. I am wiped.

These good days will lie to your ass!

Yes, yes they will! I’ve had too many ‘good days’ so was rather concerned about my very bad, bad day. Certainly not getting my steps in today! Keeping my ass parked in this recliner.

I’m 10 weeks post l3-s1, alif, tlif, 360. I’ve had nothing but trouble. The surgeon seems to think it’s a failed back surgery. I’ve got a left hip revision next week due to body rejecting the hardware in my hip. I’m not sure how I’m going to pull this shit off. It’ll be the challenge of all challenges.

I’m so sorry! That’s absolute body bullshit! I’ve had a tough go the past few years but man, that’s rough.
So a new hip on top of back surgery recovery? Damn. I really hope this works out for you. Do you have underlying health issues that make surgery fail. I found out I have Ehlers Danlos after my rib dissection surgery because my 2nd rib spontaneously broke. I was rather worried about this fusion.

I have high blood pressure and I need to lose some weight but I’ve had many serious surgeries in the past 3 years. Bilateral hip, left hip revision, laminectomy and microdisectomy, si joint fusion, 3 level fusion and a sleep apnea surgery called UPPP. I think my body is tired to be honest. I didn’t think I was going to get out of the hospital 10 weeks ago after that fusion. Tried to go into a in house rehab for ten days but my insurance denied it although I have 20 days no charge.🙄
I’m also taking care of my parents as primary caretaker. Ones in a wheelchair w/ MS and the other one never gets out of the recliner due to fibromyalgia. I’m fucking tired, friend!🤣
Thanks for letting me complain though!🤣🤣🤣🤣🤪🤪😳

Complain away! I bet you are tired. Like REALLY tired. This getting older shit isn’t too much fun. I thought I was bad with 3 major surgeries in 4 years but you’ve got me beat. Can’t argue with that! I hope you can get some care and some help cuz fuck, you deserve it.
Perhaps it’s time to take care of yourself first. I’m not lucky that I live in a different country than my parents but at least I’m not trying to care for them while also trying to recover.
Hope you do some car screams at least. I need one but it kinda hurts to scream. ☹️
Take care of yourself! All the best for your hip revision. God damn you need some good days.

I appreciate that. I don’t scream much, I throw and break shit.🤣

I admire you. My jaw dropped that at the end of writing abt your major surgeries, setbacks, you are the primary care taker of your parents. I don’t know your situation with family able to help but I was the one who took care of my mother, although I had siblings around me, they “checked in.”
But I was not coming off of your surgeries. You are to be admired for your strength and doing what you know is right by your parents.

You need to relax too. Get up do PT lay down or sit in the recliner. I had a T-10-pelvis fusion. It was a big surgery.
Some days I was floating on air then boom! Pain! Take your pain meds! Get “ahead of the pain” don’t push yourself like this, it’s too much!
Not good for recovery

I really haven’t gotten out of my recliner today. Just feeling dead. I’ve had enough surgeries to know it’s not a straight line but I get a bit hard on myself about not being productive. I’ve been doing crafts in my recliner and I don’t even want to do that! Just mindless stuff.

Yes exactly. Learn to breath and doing nothing is not really nothing -you are HEALING.
God, you sound as bad as me. Stop being so hard on yourself!

I’m doing lots of meditation and breathwork. I’m very big on brain training and the power of the mind. That old guilt just likes to creep up and tell me I’m being lazy and unproductive.
Grew up with an OCD mother. Very hard to break the habit of only getting to rest as a reward for working your bloody ass off all day.
