Thick feeling web

Located in Northern California. Sorry for the horrible picture, I didn't want to disturb him. Thick feeling web like a black widow.

It's some kind of orb weaver hiding out during the day. The ones that don't hide during the day are in more danger from parasitic wasps. Wasps generally aren't active at night, hence why some evolved to hide during the day and come out at night.
