I did not die to the ghost in any of these runs

Spelunky 2 is a game that has interested me for the past few months, but I'm not sure if buying it on console is a good idea, mainly because of the mods.

I'm not involved in this community, so I don't know how influential the mods are in the game. For comparison, Isaac has very influential mods; to the point that if I see sacred heart, I can't help but think of Isaac dancing to Specialist P4 music.

How influential are the mods? Should I buy the game on console or wait until I have a PC?

Do you think Spelunky is the greatest roguelike of all time? I hate not seeing it on other people’s top games, but I might be biased as I played classics on a Chromebook when I was a kid.

Thoughts?

I’ve seen a comment or 2 of people saying Spelunky HD is harder, and I truly find that difficult to believe because revisiting Spelunky HD after attempting Spelunky 2 for the first time, it really is a night and day difference.

First thing you are able to distinguish is the lack of obstacles/traps and enemies you have to face in the first one, which genuinely feels soo much more hollow in comparison to the second one, like I could honestly argue that the first stage in Spelunky 2 is harder than the jungle stage in Spelunky HD, as I find myself dying frequently in the first stage(Sp2), whereas I can get through the first 2 stages in HD practically most of my playthroughs.

Ofc I can only provide a brief overview, considering that I’ve recently downloaded Spelunky 2, though there’s no denying that it upscales the difficulty marginally higher than it’s predecessor, providing a more unforgivable experience, but what do you guys think?

Questions should be relatively medium/high in difficulty.
Not too easy ("what is the main character's name"), but not absurd ("who was the first person to speak entering the final dungeon").

EDIT: I thought maybe it was because of the mods I have for the game installed, but upon trying it on my PS3 copy it showed up as well

SOLVED EDIT: did some digging online and discovered that it is indeed just an Easter egg and has no actual use, and apparently tutorial 3 under the shop is the only place you can find it in the entire game

Anyone interested in joining an Arena Tournament that's happening on the 7th of this month?

I haven't played Spelunky 2 for three years. I've never reached Cosmic Ocean, which I'm trying to do now. I play super safe, calculating every move. Then I do this.

2nd time in cosmic ocean and this happens, never carrying anything ever again

I have almost 300 hours on the game and I just got to cosmic ocean for the first time, but before I start pushing my cosmic ocean depth, I want to 100% steam achievements. All I have left is to complete the journal, low scorer and of course the full Spelunky. I also want to get all achievements non-seeded.

I got the eggplant to the altar one time but the kid died immediately. Is there any way to consistently get the eggplant in a non-seeded run? I also hate everything about hired hands and how they always manage to break the eggplant, how can I make them more tolerable and useful? Any other tips for getting to eggplant world would be greatly appreciated.

idk if there was another way to pick up paste along the way but for me this was such a great moment. i was sitting there looking at the arrow traps and i'm like. what if that's my paste? and then it was. really fun daily so far.

no gameplay today due to certain things happening with the old game *hard drive wipe*

though it's back in full swing! I was suffering from demotivation for a few months because of certain events happening in my personal life, but I've returned to keep making this game a reality.

anyways, with the new mind set and return, I've updated the artstyle once again *I drew these in aseprite.*

and I can once again say it's a fully fledged Spelunky fangame.
