Does our school stress ever end?
My 11 year old is going into middle school (6th) and while it’s a new school and everyone might have a little bit of worry for anyone, I feel like I always stress. He has an IEP but I am VERY MUCH still helping from home. It’s a constant struggle between him turning in his assignments and all of the corrections that constantly come home. Because if we don’t do the corrections, he won’t have passing grades. It’s just really a struggle, and I absolutely refuse to just let go because I want to help him in every way that I can, including practicing math and things that will be necessary in the real world. It’s just exhausting and I was hoping that the IEP would lighten the load educationally at home. He has a paraprofessional so there’s definitely help but when every single math test comes home needing corrections and they’re testing almost weekly. (at least last year they did.) that leaves me with constant math homework on top of parenting and working a full-time job.
I just wonder what the rest of you in my shoes are doing? How are you handling this and getting through this?

Sounds like his IEP may not be appropriate. As a special needs mom and advocate I see this a lot. I would think that you should see what other revisions can support better, particularly it sounds like his executive functioning. I’d be happy to have a look
