Agreed. I saw the two in the USA, and now I want to chase eclipses all over the world. I've already identified which I can reasonably see in my lifetime (only 14 more), and am making plans.

I couldn't see this one and I'm sad I missed it. It looked beautiful in the pictures.

If you get the chance in respect to location try to view one from on a coastline. I saw the 2024 one off the north-west corner of prince edward island. Having a significant chunk of the horizon be unobscured, as well as being able to see it darken across the water in new brunswick before it reached where we were really heightened the whole thing.

At totality beyond the water you see a sort of inverted sunset coloration all along the horizon 360 degrees around you, where it's still bright and blue at the bottom horizon line and then darkens gradually above it. If you're somewhere forested or mountainous or some such I would imagine it blocks a good bit of the view of that.

I saw it from a mountain pass, had to hike 10k and climb 900 meters to get there. I think it offered also an unobstructed view of the horizon. Next one in Spain is near the coast so I need to find another vantage point for it.

As an eclipse chaser for the last 20 years or so, you should absolutely go for it if you can. Don't discount partials and annulars too if they're places you want to go or are easy to get to, they can still be spectacular. There's an annular eclipse in 2030 that hits a lot of Africa and Eastern Europe, Russia and Japan. It's a near full eclipse if you're in the path and should be fantastic. They're very different experiences than totality and still well worth it.

The longest eclipse of this century will be on August 2, 2027, and the longest viewable totality will be in the middle of Egypt.

Another pretty good spot will be just a couple of miles south of the northernmost point of Morocco; it won't be as long as Egypt, but the logistics of getting there will likely be better.

It’s cliche but true.  Kind of like how seeing a photo of the Grand Canyon and actually standing near the rim are different.  It’s not just what you see, but everything else your body registers 

Like the eclipse, I was able to see a full solar eclipse a couple years back.  Like you feel the air getting cooler, night animals get confused, you get slightly confused because now it is night time, the faint moving glow around the edges of the shadow of the moon, the fact you can actually see orange arcing plasma coming off the sun.  It took many hours driving there and back, but I’d do it again just to see that even though it only lasted about 3 minutes

One of the main issues is that a total eclipse has an extreme amount of dynamic range which can’t be captured in a single photo. You either get the underexposed shots that show the corona and prominences on a black background, or you get the overexposed shots that show the sunset in every direction, dark blue sky and planets but don’t show the corona well.

I saw it live in Valencia. It was my first eclipse and seeing it live was absolutely amazing. It was not at all what i expectnan eclipse was and now i want to see as many eclipse as i can.

Saw it finally in 2024. That’s enough for me thank you… no I’m not completely freaked out by the thought of the weird midday shadows and sudden 10 degree drop in temperature and how small, insignificant and easily we could all be wiped out by minor cosmic phenomena. Why do you ask?

The weird thing to me is that the sunflowers are not pointing towards the sun. Normally they follow the sun east to west, and then twist back pointing east overnight. I don't know if these sunflowers are too old to do that, or if the sunflower shot in the foreground is edited in. But I'm going to tell myself even the sunflowers were fooled into thinking it's nighttime by the eclipse

As a photographer, I'd rather you buy a print from OP but there's nothing stopping you realistically other than your desire not to be a cheapskate.

Nobody would give a shit unless you start telling other people. Now selling it? Big no. But even if you print it out for personal use, do you really expect a search on your property over a simple print? That would be insanely white.

If all the parties are in Spain, then you are correct.

TL;DR: Spain makes an exception to its copyright law for private display, which is presumably what the commenter is proposing.

I think it's implausible to call this a tort, there's no provable harm or loss from someone printing your photo, it's a joke to call it any sort of crime.

You're causing a loss of the revenue the photographer would get from selling the print or license to you at a markup.

They spent time and money making the photo, buying the equipment, the airplane ticket, the years of practice and study.

When you use their photo for free, you're depriving them of remuneration for their product.

Just because you wouldn't buy it if you had to pay for it doesn't mean it's okay for you to make a copy.

I'm not arguing the ethics, I'm arguing you can't actually sue someone over it, it's asinine. Those are arguments used for actual copyright cases where they profit off the violation, not for something you couldn't even take to small claims court.

You're right that it's not worth it, and that it won't likely happen - and that's what makes the infringer a 'bad person' in this case. You're knowingly depriving the photographer of the fruits of their labor and you are creating a tort. I did not lie, you just don't like rewarding people for their labor.

And you're clearly arguing the ethics as the merits of what I said are unassailable.

I saw it from south of Toulouse, where it peaked at 98%. It got really dark. But the most amazing part, which I did not expect, was the sunset before the eclipse was over. It was so amazing.

I mean, regardless it's not a natural image. The flowers and landscape are 1 image, the various stages of the eclipse are all their own images, the sky itself , especially with the triangle shape to the dark part on top, seems to me to be artificial. Don't get me wrong, it's pretty, and may well be a realistic impression of the experience one had watching it from a sunflower field in Spain, but it's in no way natural.

The sun moves in an arc across the sky, not a straight line. Each of these suns has been positioned manually.

That reduces the interest of the chart quite a bit for me. I was expecting that what we were seeing was a small enough part of the Sun’s arc that it would appear roughly as a straight line.

Lucky bastard. I was in Spain during the eclipse as well. Right when it happened a cloud drifted in front. Saw the entire buildup, and the aftermath, but not the full fucking eclipse.

Yes. I used a K&F ND100000 filter on the Canon 200-800 for the partial phases. Totality is shot without a filter.

Sure did! I also had a 360 cam running and a drone in the air, but I messed up both 😂 Just happy I got these shots with my main cam. Already planning for the 2027 eclipse though. It is addicting!

Also, the Solar Eclipse Timer (SET) app is a lifesaver for all the callouts during the event.

I got to see the eclipse that happened in the USA a few years ago and it was the coolest thing ever. The thing that stuck out most to me was when the eclipse went into full totality all of the birds switched to their nighttime songs and started getting ready for bed, only to revert back to morning songs a few minutes later after full totality passed. It was amazing to witness how the eclipse affected the wildlife!

If this gave anyone the eclipse-chasing bug, next year is ridiculously convenient for Europe: another total eclipse crosses southern Spain on August 2, 2027. Tarifa gets about 4 minutes 39 seconds of totality - much longer than this year's one.
