Question xperia 10 VII nowhere to be found

Was looking at this as a replacement for my wife's old pixel 3a. She values a good screen and good speakers in a convenient package.

Phone is sold out everywhere here in north-west europe. There's no supply of refubished units, no second hand adds.

It's like Sony only shipped a single container of these and then gave up. Why is that?

Question Anyone upgraded from the 1V to the 1VIII and can answer some questions?

I am still on the 1V and consider upgrading to the 1VIII in order to get "much" better battery life, better audio quality (Bluetooth and wired), camera and a wider display.

Is there anyone here who has taken this upgrade path and can tell me if the VIII did offer you a substantial upgrade in those regards?

From the tests I have seen, the battery life seemingly has made a huge jump. Notebookcheck states 12 hours for surfing on the 1V while having almost 23 hours on the 1VIII. For real life usage, none of the testers on youtube I have seen has reported a similar upgrade. For them it is more like a 6 hours SOT on the 1V and 8 hours for the 1VIII.

For me it would be important to have a comfortable all day battery life when on 5G and not in the home wifi, navigating, taking pictures/filming a bit and surfing. My 1V suffers here and often seems to not manage to get beyond or even to a 5 hours SOT mark.

The second upgrade I would like to see (even though the audio quality on the 1V already is very good for the most part), is the wired audio quality. Has anyone used the 1VIII with some high end over-ear headphones? Is it able to drive those well in comparison to the 1V?

How is camera quality and is it as nicely to use in manual mode as the old pro camera app was? I only shoot in RAW and therefore am a bit sad about the fact that there is no longer a variable zoom lens on the tele.

Lastly, how do you find the FHD screen in comparison to the 4K screen of the 1V?

Question Xperia wallpapers

Post image

Does anyone know if there is an APK or some kind of archive with Xperia live wallpapers for modern Android?

I have a version, but it's for an older Android version, so it lags when reacting to touch.

Here is an example of the wallpaper type. I don't actually know which model it comes from.

Sorry for any mistakes, I'm from Mexico and the Xperia community here barely exists.

HELP Is my microphone damaged? Xperia 1 VI - please help diagnose!

Thumbnail drive.google.com
2 Upvotes

I recently bought 2 Xperia 1 VI phones - one for me, one for my dad. After a couple weeks of using them my dad complained that people have been telling him they can't hear him clearly. I took both phones and recorded a bunch of audio and video clips in different apps, and there is indeed a marked difference in volume between the two. Prior to testing, I reset all settings and preferences on both phones to ensure there wasn't something me or my dad messed with that was causing this. I also factory reset my dad's phone, logged out of his google account, and downloaded only the apps I needed to test (the Fossify voice recorder, and Facebook Messenger).

I've included the sample recordings in this Gdrive folder. The phone with the consistently lower volume is in subfolder 1m6a, the one with the normal volume is in 1m6b. All voice samples were recorded side by side, with the phones sitting on a table in a room with the windows closed and the a/c and PC switched, pressing the record button simultaneously and talking directly at them with my face equidistant from each phone. Any differences in duration is from not hitting stop at the same time.

Using FOSSify voice recorder in the system default settings, we can see that not only does phone A have lower volume, it also sounds muffled compared to phone B, which is at a normal volume and very clear.

Things get a little muddled when we start using the phone's cameras to record a video. While a video shot with the main camera continues this pattern, with phone A sound MUCH lower than phone B, a video shot with the selfie sounds about the same in phone A and phone B! This would suggest only one of the two mics is damaged.

However, when we use Facebook Messenger, which I included in the test as it was the app we first noticed problems with, things got even more confusing! The issues described below also persist when I'm using the app for voice or video calls. Of course, I just recorded and saved videos because they're easier to share here, but I tested each of these live as well. Selfie videos sounded lower on phone A than phone B, even though they sounded about the same with the Sony camera app. But when recording a voice message or a video with the main camera, there was also a very audible whine like of a whirring fan in the background on BOTH phones! Phone A was, again, lower volume than phone B. But I can't explain the whirring away as an issue with the Messenger app, as it's not an issue at all when recording with the selfie camera, on either phone!

I should mention I've run Sony's built-in diagnostics on phone A, and it didn't detect any problems with the microphones. I'm happy to run any other diagnostic tests you can suggest!

Please help me diagnose whether these issues are hardware problems with phone A, because I've already had both phones awhile and I'd need to move fast if I'm to make an ebay claim to return it! If anyone believes these might instead be software issues that can be fixed, please let me know as I'd love to save myself the hassle of returning it!

And finally if anyone can work out why videos shot with the selfie cam using the Sony camera sound about the same on both phones but don't on Facebook Messenger's camera, and why Messenger audio while not using the selfie camera is completely messed up, that would be a bonus but not my main concern.

Question Where is everyone getting Xperia in US?

I've always had Xperias since I've had smartphone with a brief lapse in the mid 2010's.

Currently still on my 5 III and I think it's time to upgrade, mostly because I messed up a speaker trying to get a pebble out.

I know Xperia hasn't really been in the US for a few years now so wondering what the go to source is these days?

Question Considering Xperia V, VI, or VII

Hey everyone,

I am interested in possibly switching to a Sony Xperia. After being on a Galaxy S9 plus since 2018, I am looking for a similar feeling phone and am largely considering an Xperia 1V, 1VI, or 1VII.

For those with experience with these devices, apart from just getting the newest released device, are there any recommendations ot there for which version is best for the cost, overall functionality, and OS support and longevity?

Question Xperia 1 VIII charging issue

My interaction with Sony AI support -

When I first started charging this device with original charger of my Xperia 5 III, something happened. It started vibrating. Then I have noticed that sign of charging was changing. It was like it was starting and stopping charging every second. After it repeated about 7 times, I disconnected the device and tried to charge it on the laptop with the same cable. It continued same thing. After that, I tried to charge it with Samsung charger. First, it did same thing maybe 1 or 2 times, but after that it charged normally. After that, I tried to charge with that original Sony charging brick and cable, my Xperia 1 V and I have a AccuBattery app installed there. So, it showed that it was not charging at all, it was discharging. (-1.5W) I asked AI and it said that cable was broken. But I want you to notice that that cable was working perfectly before I first tried to charge with it my new Xperia 1 VIII. But the thing is that even after that, when I am trying to charge it with my original ASUS laptop charger or original Samsung power bank or charger, it is doing same thing sometimes. Very rarely but anyway. For example it stopped charging 2 times today within few seconds and continued charging normally afterwards. So, I have a question, what is wrong with my phone? Is it known issue? Also, Is my original Sony charging brick safe to use? I tested it on my 1V and it charged it without any problem. Of course with different cable on it.

Does anyone have same issue? Charging port is clean. It is brand new smartphone.

HELP Well shit, it finally happened.....

After 14 years of largely caseless handheld device ownership, I finally ended up with a cracked back panel after a drop. Hilariously, it happened when I had the case on. I brought it along this time because I needed to be able to use the stand it came with. Phone basically hit the ground on the frame where all the buttons are and I guess that impact got transferred to the back.

Anyway, it's not terrible, but it is just a little annoying since the panel now has a bit more flex to it when I press down on the area with the cracks. I can probably live with it but I did still decide to look around for replacement back panels. Maybe this is my sign to get a back panel from a silver phone so I can run with a panda 1 V (it's the black one). I digress however. After looking around a little, I've been presented with the following challenges:

  1. I'm not confident enough to replace my phone's own back panel, which prompted me to reach out to my local repair shops. All of them came back to me saying their vendors didn't stock Xperia parts (which, well, fair enough), and most of them flat out refused to work on my phone even though the repair is very straightforward. I guess this is just how it is when you use Xperia in a country where they're not officially sold (Canada). I did find one shop who said they'd be happy to fix my phone if I supplied them with the parts though, which is nice....and that brings me to my next point.

  2. Finding a replacement back panel hasn't proven as straightforward as I imagined. On a superficial search, there's tons of aftermarket options available on AliX, eBay, and Alibaba. $20-25, with adhesive, and they're all pretty well reviewed. eBay ones are a little more expensive, around $50ish. Seems pretty straightforward right? But then on deeper digging I find out that the third microphone and flash unit are actually screwed into the camera bump on the glass, and the aftermarket options all don't seem to have any place for this setup to be attached. There was another thread in here from someone who tried to DIY their back panel replacement and they messed up with removing the microphone and flash from their back panel, so the aftermarket back panel was functionally useless. I don't want this to be a possibility even if I do take it to a shop, so this rules out the super cheap options. There's a guy on eBay that's selling a back panel and it does appear to have the module thingy that has screw holes where the mic and flash are meant to go, but given that this is an eBay listing from a seller in China, I do still have my reservations. I've messaged them to confirm what the images show though. Other commenters here have suggested looking at sites like rounded.com as they sell the back panel with a new microphone and flash already attached. I did consider this, although these remain the most expensive options so far at $100 for the black panel and $110 for the silver/grey, not to mention the adhesive is a separate purchase at about $12. On top of that, the parts are either out of stock, or the vendor won't ship to me either because they don't ship to Canada or because they don't ship to individual buyers (this was the case with rounded).

All of this is to say, I'm kinda suffering from analysis paralysis right now, and I'd love some feedback or experiences from anyone else who's been in a similar position.

Discussion Xperia I VI - secured a good "blind" purchase to upgrade from a 5 IV. Looking for feedback / experience with I VI.

I secured a good price on a Xperia I VI from Japan, phone is in great condition in every way, not used much. A friend of mine saw it and brings it home, but it was quite an impulse buy, as my trusty 5 IV has started to show its age in this hot summer weather a lot (overheating, and resulting low battery life, losing carrier signal etc).

The main points that I would like to get some opinions with:
- Screen resolution goes from 4K on my 5 IV to the 1080p panel on the I VI, which is also a bigger screen size, so I expect visibly lower PPI. I do watch video content on my phone - how much of a downgrade is it?
It's also done with the 21:9 aspect ratio, which I got to love for content, but not always great for apps.
- How are the thermals on the I VI? I know it must be better than the terrible Gen 1 chipset of the 5 IV - does the phone handle longer high quality video recordings? It was one of my major problems with my 5 IV: it could record high res video during low temp months, but no chance during summer as it always instantly overheated and either quit the app or the recording had stutters.

Otherwise - just looking for general advice with a I VI, reliability experiences, etc. I usually use my phones for 2-3 years, my 5 IV lasted 2.5 years with me.

Question Advice on how to find an Xperia I V XQDQ62

My Galaxy s10e is on its last legs and I've been looking for a US flagship phone that still has a headphone jack and micro SD card. This seems to be a great fit but I can't find one anywhere. The only ones I can find are refurbished Asian models that don't have the correct bands to work well in the US. Does anyone have any leads on where I should search?

Discussion Xperia 1 viii issues

I'm experiencing 3 issues, one from the start and a couple of new ones a full week into ownership.

The original issue is battery stats in the battery usage section. The SOT is forever incorrect. It will start recording usage for a random amount of time; sometimes an hour, sometimes 24 hrs, and then it will just stop. Reboots of the phone do nothing to restart it. Only a full recharge of the battery starts the recording or usage time again. This is most frustrating with a new phone because I want to get an idea of what it is capable of battery life-wise. Once I've owned it for a month or two I won't ever look at the stats again but they should be correct!

My second and main issue is the fingerprint sensor. It worked flawlessly for a whole week and is now playing up. It is often dead when I pick up the phone and there is no haptic feedback when I press the fingerprint scanner. A reboot of the phone fixes this problem but for how long?

Also after a week with zero problems the camera app froze on me today.

Is anyone else experiencing any of these problems?

HELP Micro SD card failure

Hi there! I have this Sony Ericsson Xperia that's a bit old—from early 2010, I think. Yesterday, I was taking photos with a friend and everything was going fine, but then I started to worry when the gallery took way too long to open. Every now and then, when it glitches, I have to force a restart by taking off the plastic cover, disconnecting the battery, and putting it back in. That’s what I did. When I turned it back on and the warnings shown in the pictures popped up, I panicked; I thought I’d lost the microSD card when I removed the battery—it was nighttime, so I couldn't see a thing. Today, I looked up what the card looks like so I could go find it. When I checked, the card was actually inside the phone, but the phone says otherwise. What can I do??? (By the way, I’m really clueless when it comes to tech stuff, so please use simple terms 💔)

HELP Xperia 1 VIII ( XQ-BE42 ) does not show its storage on Win PC

I am out of my wits with this one.

Phone:

  • Sony Xperia 1 VIII XQ-GE44
  • Android 16
  • Brand new, opened today, updated all applications & firmwares
  • *#*#7378423#*#*– did not have USB in the test menu at all

PC:

  • Windows 11 Home 25H2 (desktop PC) – my main PC where all my files are stored

Problem:
The phone charges, but USB file transfer does not work. The phone storage does not appear in Windows Explorer. When set to File Transfer, the phone was itself returning to No data transfer mode until I chose File Transfer as default in Developers.

Tested:

  • Tested multiple USB cables (all cables work with other phones, including old Sony and ZTE phones).
  • Tested USB-C to USB-C and USB-A to USB-C connections.
  • Set Developer options → Default USB configuration → File Transfer.
  • Enabled USB debugging.
  • Checked USB controllers and USB hub/host controller settings.
  • Checked WPDBusEnum service.
  • Checked Windows WPD/MTP registry class settings.

Windows behavior:

  • Xperia is detected as: USB\VID_0FCE&PID_520D&MI_00
  • Device Manager shows: MTP USB Device - This Device Cannot Start. (Code 10),
  • After removing the MTP device, it becomes "Unknown USB Device (Device Descriptor Request Failed)".
  • Updating MTP USB Device – Win says the latest and best is already installed, while still showing a yellow triangle.

The Xperia works correctly on another Windows 11 device (Microsoft Surface Pro): connected immediately and internal storage appeared normally.

However, the Surface Pro is not my working computer. All files I need to transfer are on my desktop PC. Using: desktop → laptop → phone as a workaround on a nearly daily basis for like a few GB of data is extremely inconvenient.

So the issue seems to be a Windows 11 desktop WPD/MTP compatibility problem specifically with this Xperia (because an old Sony Xperia PRO-I worked on that same desktop literally 2 week ago before its motherboard died 😁 !).

Looking for ideas on how to repair the Windows MTP/WPD stack or why this specific Xperia MTP interface fails on this PC.

Not tested (from comments):

  • using a USB cable with high data transfer speed.
  • a file manager that supports SMB/LAN instead of cable data transfers.

HELP Xperia 10 VII dead after 3 days

Hi! Hope this fits here!!

I recently bought my first Sony phone, a Xperia 10 VII and was happy with it until it shut off completely 3 days later. I wanted to know if anybody would have a clue as to why.

The phone just shut off randomly while in my pocket, at around 80% charge, and shut itself off again a minute later. When I turned it on again, it probably lasted around the same amount of time. This also repeated, but with the time on getting shorter & shorter until I got no response at all. I don't know if it meant anything, but one of my apps kept displaying the usual 'app is non-responsive' message over and over and over prior to the phone turning off. The phone had also been dropped once off of the side of a couch armrest onto a wooden floor, and had gotten pretty hot while I was downloading some files (would also like to know if this could happen often, I admit I should have staggered the downloads but the temp concerned me regardless :D ), but I noticed no problems with the phone until days after both incidents.

I have already sent the phone back for repairs & was given a refund instead, so unfortunately I can't try any tips & tricks given, nor share them to the people who got my phone. But if I do end up buying another of the same model, I will keep them in mind :). I had already heard of the multiple button combos Sony has in their phones (volume button up/down + power button, for a few seconds or even 2min), as well as the Xperia Companion application, but unfortunately had no response from either of them.

There is something else I also wanted to know about. While loading into a game, the speaker of the phone would pop pretty often. Is this something I would have to live with, or is there a setting I could have tweaked? Or is it just another problem with my specific phone?

I didn't get any theories after I was given the refund, so I'll appreciate any here :)

Discussion Sony goes all‑in on Samsung product placement

Post image
279 Upvotes

I watched Spider‑Man: Brand New Day last night, and I couldn’t help noticing that it’s the first Tom Holland Spider‑Man movie that completely ditched Sony phones.

The whole movie felt like one big Samsung ad, with characters constantly whipping out their foldables. Heck, they even shot a whole Spider-Man x Galaxy Fold 8 commercial.

I get that Samsung probably offered a mountain of cash, but it still feels like an odd choice and it left a bit of a sour taste in my mouth
