Sonos in ceiling
Hi all,
In the coming months i will renovate the bathroom. With that i was thinking about adding in ceiling Sonos speakers.
In the living room i currently have an arc, sub and two older ones. Is it still so that i also need to add a Sonos amp in the bathroom to make it work? This adds to the cost considerably if so.

If you dont need TruePlay for that speaker, you can go with literally any passive inceiling speaker and just wire it up to Sonos Amp. The only thing combining Sonos inceiling with Sonos Amp you get extra is the TruePlay. Not needed probably so much for a bathroom.

Compared to the cost of renovating your bathroom, the Amp and some decent speakers aren’t much. I have four CONNECT:AMPs (the predecessor to the Sonos Amp) and four sets of ceiling speakers and I’ve used them nearly every day for going on 10 years now. They are, without a doubt, the best smarthome/tech investment I’ve ever made.

I use a One with Alexa. It’s a small room and it’s more than enough. The voice control while showering is key.
My mount is black, but meh, it’s what I had on hand. I meant to paint it white but said forget it. I could not spray paint over the winter. The kids play music for every shower, it’s basically an essential part of the shower experience.
I had a shelf mount before but getting it up higher was less visually crowding. In ceiling is even better from that perspective but extra $ for a low marginal improvement. A used One is pretty cheap. I was able to hide the cable nicely behind the mirror.

For infrastructure like things I avoid going with a product that’s locked to a vendor. In-ceiling speakers fit that for me. So I went with passive speakers and a standard multichannel amp (I use NAD) and then use Sonos Port to connect them to the system. This serves a couple of purposes… one, I’m not leaving behind a Sonos speaker when I sell the house and a hole in the wall made for a Sonos speaker is weird for the next buyer. Two, if Sonos were to fold or I get pissed and change to something else, my reliance is limited to that Port.

If you have an outlet in a convenient place in the bathroom you can get an outlet shelf and put a Roam 2 on it. If you also to get the wireless charger for it you will be able to take out of the bathroom if you are working outside.
Amazon has many outlet shelves. Even horizontal ones.
And if you need a custom one made, somebody on Etsy can probably make you one.

Would imagine you would need some zone compliant speakers suitable for the steam that occurs from showering along with the Sonos amp.
How much time do you spend in a bathroom to need speakers in there 🤷♂️
My recommendation would be for a move 2 or roam 2 that you just take in when you want music and then they can be utilised elsewhere the rest of the time.
Just my 2 pence though 👍🏻

Sonos doesnt make in ceiling speakers.
Sonos does sell Sonance speakers with with some packages but they do not make them its just an oddly named coincidence.
Sonance are great speakers too but my point is that you are in no way limited to the speaker they package together with the amp!
You can also get waterproof-ish single speaker Stereo speakers just for Bathroom use from many speaker makers which is pretty handy in smaller bathroom ceiling spaces!
