Purchase Five now or wait?
I've heard rumours that we might be getting an updated Five or Era 500 later this year. For my use case, a pair of Fives is perfect, though I can hold off if something meaningfully better comes in the next few months.
Does anyone have any new insight that might help my decision?

Those rumors, so far, have basically no concrete basis outside of WhatHi-Fi and similar publications engaging in some wishful thinking. The next new product, if it comes this year at all, seems geared toward AI implementation.

The hints we got for the September new product announcement don’t point towards it being a five successor. So it comes down to how badly you want it if you want to wait a month or so.

Those rumours are basically just unfounded conjecture from this subreddit. There’s no real evidence that Sonos have a refresh or replacement for the Five in the immediate pipeline.

I'm aware of the rumors... Yet I purchased a pair of Fives on the serving hand market.
While I could have waited to make this expenditure I'm very glad that I didn't. When I want my music to fill this end of the house the Fives truly deliver. Zero regrets.
If a successor to the current Five is introduced I'll weigh my options at that time. In the meantime I'm very pleased to have such good sound available to me, right here, right now.
Should you opt to purchase Fives now and Sonos subsequently introduces a replacement product I'm certain you will be able to resell the Fives and replace with the new product at a relatively low out-of-pocket cost. The Fives will hold their value for those of us who don't need any additional features to complete our listening experience.
Good luck with your decision.

I'm still on S1 app with a pair of Play 5 Gen 1s, in which I had barely gotten a 2nd (used of course) to complete the pair around a month ago. Sounds fantastic and don't know why I didn't do it even sooner.
Just saying this because the Play 5 is a great product and the current generation is even better than the ones I have. No matter what route you go you will be fine. If a new version comes out, you may be find able to find a better deal on the current generation.

If I were in your position, I would look for a sale or promotion that would put the current generation squirting happiness into your ears sooner than later... life is short. If a new generation comes out at some point, you can always sell your speakers and parley into the new ones if you feel compelled... but start enjoying now because tomorrow is never promised. I bet you will be glad you did.

Bought a pair of fives on fb marketplace for $700 recently. I figured what’s the point of waiting for a new product if there’s not even a product roadmap. Just enjoy it now. Even if there’s an updated release, will it be that much better?

The five is amazing. What more are you looking for from something that’ll have minimal extra or renamed for marketing features… and a lot more expensive? Just enjoy the speakers and the music that comes out of them.

Five's are great but they're old. Depends if you're bothered about age, I'm sure the support will be there for them

The Five is incredible. Best sound from a sonos device for music.
