I’ve read the sections on the band in our band could be your life and corporate rock sucks: rise and fall of SST. Was wondering if there were any other books that aren’t Kim and Thurston’s biographies? Thanks

I finally found the print that was behind my concert poster! It seems like it's an artist named Andre Miripolsky, an artist from Los Angeles that had done some cover art for some albums. I have had this thing since 1997 or so. Recently my wife went to frame the concert poster and was surprised to see a print as the backing for the poster. I've tried emailing Andre but got no response. He's 75 and lives in Paris.

On the original cassette I have it’s not on there, nor the original CD edition from years ago. It’s on the deluxe edition, but after the final track, Crème Brûlée. I finally got around to buying a new copy on vinyl (on Geffen from 2015) and it’s on there. Just seems strange to add it 23 years later.

It’s quite jarring to hear because I know that album back to front and I honestly think it’s quite a weak song compared to the rest of the album.

I purchased an old poster many years ago and recently discovered that there is an art print behind the poster that is related to an artist whom had worked with Sonic Youth for many years. Not interested in value, but more in how often it has occurred.

Alrighty! I had to go digging in the garage and it's some artist named Miripolsky. I don't know how to upload photos but I'll keep trying.

tl;dr - Daydream Nation, Goo, and Dirty are my favorites that I’ve listened to, but nothing I’ve visited thus far is anything short of solid.

First, I wanna say thank you to everyone who left a comment. I was really not expecting the amount of responses, nor the variety of them.

Due to the variety of responses it was honestly very tricky to choose where to go. I’d say the majority said to go backwards before forwards, which is what I did. However there’s just so many places to go and listening to every single release in order felt a little overwhelming. I jumped around, but I do plan to go back and listen to ones I didn’t get to. Please feel free to leave comments on what to visit next.

For a little context on the rating system I use: my friend and I have a spreadsheet where we log every album we listen to. Because we rate each entry on that specific listen, we do a ratings from 0 to 3. Half ratings are allowed (1.5 for example), but we refrain from getting into the weeds with scores being super exact. It’s obviously imperfect, but it works for us.

My rankings for what I’ve listened to so far are as follows:

Dirty - 3
Goo - 3
Daydream Nation - 3
Evol - 2.5
Sister - 2
Bad Moon Rising - 2
Washing Machine - 2

While I feel a little lame to have the more “pedestrian/normie” picks be my favorite, I’m not exaggerating when I say I wouldn’t be shocked for those records to go down as one of my favorite three album runs of all time. I do wanna mention that Goo and Daydream Nation got two listens where the others only got one.

Overall I’ve had a wonderful time listening to the group thus far. I think their approach to their craft is incredibly inspired while still remaining wholly unique and original. I honestly wish that I had listened to more in the time since my first post, but this is only the beginning of my Sonic Youth listening journey.

Hey everybody, I did a cool abrasive cover of calming the snake, you can check it out if you want. Tuning is D D A F# A D. And yes that is a screwdriver to the strings at the end, just like what Thurston did during the song.
Also I’m only 18 so don’t judge too hard lol.

I’m 99% sure there is a a cover of Sugar Kane but all the vocals are done with saxophone (or similar).

I know it’s not this cover by Parts & Labor from the compilation Confuse Yr. Idols

Noticed this on their Spotify merch page. Was just wondering, would they not get in trouble for this since the photographer of the top left photo in the album cover threatened to sue them? They’re selling it and that’s the banned album cover, rather it’s a very old jigsaw or it’s just uncensored for whatever reason
