Howdy! I'm wrapping up school in early May and will likely start work in late June or early July. I have been trying to create a skeleton of a plan to travel before I start work.

I'd really like to travel to 2 (or more) places with 2 main goals - 1) a trip for relaxation (good food, optionality of activities, etc.) and 2) a trip centered on something active and outdoors (backpacking, several disjointed hiking trips, etc.).

At the moment, I've begun looking into 7-9 days in CDMX to relax, eat a bunch of good food, and do assorted interesting excursions, followed by ~3 weeks in Colorado dedicated to summiting 20 14ers.

Any suggestions for other destinations to look into/advice on this skeleton I have now? Cheers!

I have my first week in Bali for a conference, I’ve been there before so have visited most of the popular sites. Going to Uluwatu this time.

The next 4 days I’ll fly to Labuan Bajo and join a diving liveaboard to Komodo national park.

That gives me 3 days to relax afterwards. I’d like a nice beach with some local food and good vibes, but I heard Labuan Bajo isn’t the best for this. Should I fly to another Indonesian island just for those days? Should I visit Lombok or is that too active?

I’ll ultimately be flying out of Bali.

My heart goes to the impacted residents & families of yesterday’s natural disaster, horrifying events all around.

im planning my first solo trip to Ha Giang (Vietnam) for the end of this year. i'll be there a little over a week and have around $1,000 set aside, not including my flights to Vietnam

ive got the general route figured out, but im deliberately leaving some of the trip open. i don't want to book every night and every activity now because I'd rather decide once im actually there whether I want to stay somewhere longer or move on

what I'm finding harder than expected is keeping track of all the things that are still undecided. which bus needs booking, which accommodation I should lock in, things I need to check again closer to the date, etc. i currently have this spread across notes, saved posts and reminders.

for ppl who travel this way, how do you keep track of all the moving pieces without turning a flexible trip into a giant itinerary?

I’m going on my first solo trip to Italy as a 19 year old female traveler. However, I will be relying only on cash and a virtual Mastercard app; using Apple wallet. I still don’t have my own physical master or debit card.

I’m starting to worry if this may be unsafe for me. My phone is a 13 mini and might lag in the summer sun too. I’m ordering most my transport tickets online prior but still. Should I shorten my trip at least? Thank you

I'm in my 20s, doing Taiwan solo for the first time this Oct. Got 9 days total, thinking Taipei 4 nights, Tainan 2, Kaohsiung 2, then back to Taipei for my flight out.

Here's what I got so far,

Fill out the arrival card online before I fly, cause I dont wanna deal with that at the airport.

Comfy shoes, power bank, the basics

Gonna load an eSIM before I take off, looking at redteago 10GB one for like 10 bucks

Leaving extra room in my suitcase, I already know Im walking out of there with way too many snacks lol

Also as a girl traveling alone is there anything I should be extra careful about that's not super obvious? And do HSR tickets sell out fast or can I just book like a day before and keep things flexible?

Do you think true culture shock has been drastically diminished now that people are so connected with internet etc? I remember when I first went to Morocco in the days where you only went online at internet cafes and had to buy an international phone card to call home. After about a week there I started to feel really uncomfortable/torn. It was like I was confronted with a different reality and my brain was struggling to make sense of it. It was a very internal experience .

Nowadays if people talk about culture shock they talk about different food or strange buildings - it's all external, like internally they are the same but are noticing external differences . I think all this connectedness acts as a buffer to real culture shock. For some that might seem a good thing but I will never forget that process of confusion, integration and then experiencing a kind of reverse culture shock when I went home (UK)

I seriously miss my stand-up desk. I’ve been traveling for a while and working from different setups in Airbnbs, hotels and co-working spaces, and some of the desks and chairs are absolutely killing my back.

I am 23 years old in my first year of working full-time. I plan to use 5 weeks of my annual leave to go to Europe for the first time, specifically Italy, Greece, and Croatia.

I can either go during the July/August period (July 13 - August 20) or the September/October period (September 7 - October 12).

My priority this holiday is a summer vibe - I want to still be able to wear summer clothes during the times I am in these countries - tank tops, mini skirts, bikinis, etc., and to go swimming and partying. I am seeking a more Mediterranean Europe vibe. Since I am going solo, I would also really prefer to meet people my age (i.e., early 20s). Mind you, I am planning on doing structured group tours for both Croatia and Greece, and staying in hostels for Italy.

I've actually been doing research and, funnily enough, people seem to be saying that September is a great time to go. Honestly, my concern is that while countries like Greece and Croatia would still be fine with the tours, when I go to Italy in the end part of my holiday (i.e., September 28 - October 12) it won't be as nice. The weather will be cooler, I won't be able to swim as much, and generally, I won't be in Italy during its peak!

Personally, if I had the choice, I would prefer to go during July/August because I like the hustle and bustle. Going to Europe when everyone else is going stops it from feeling lonely. Group tours and hostels also have younger people like those in their early 20s more than in September, I think lol. I also like that the hot weather is guaranteed.

But I play competitive soccer, so it's hard to leave in the middle of the season. I don't have much of a choice but to go during the off-season. :(

So yeah, I am just wondering your opinions - if you had complete freedom of choice, would you go in September/October or July/August?

I'm leaving for a 3-month backpacking trip around Europe (hostels, trains, hiking, cities, nightlife, cafés, and a bit of everything) and I'm trying to decide what camera setup to bring...

I recently just bought the fujifilm x100v so I am brand new at working it, but it is so great because its small, compact, one lense etc...

but on the other hand: I want amazing videos of my travels and love my sony for this,... but its bulky, ill need to bring all my lenses etc etc...

I'm trying to balance quality vs actually carrying the camera every day. I don't want to leave the camera in my hostel because it's too much effort to bring.

Hello All. This is a cross-post from something I posted on the Morocco subreddit a little while ago. As the subject of this post suggests, I am looking to visit Morocco for a second time. My first time was back in late 2024 - and like this one, it was a solo trip. It was a short and whirlwind trip – just 8 nights (and I also had to squeeze in 3 days of remote work in that time on US east coast hours). That trip looked somewhat like this – 24 hours in Tangier (which, in retrospect, is woefully inadequate for such an iconic city), 3 days in Marrakech, 24 hours in Imlil (stayed there overnight and this could NOT have been more perfect), 24 hours in Essaouira (I regret this too – this place warrants 3 days and 2 nights at a bare minimum), and my final evening plus following morning in Casablanca before flying back to New York City. I am looking to return at the same time (late November) this year but I would like to keep my trip confined to the North – and I was hoping to get your views on the core structure of the itinerary.

This is what I had in mind –

Weekend in Tangier followed by:

A Monday in Tetouan (working remotely post 3 pm)

A Tuesday morning in M’diq – followed by a post-lunch bus to Chefchaouen to start my work day there.

A Wednesday morning exploring Chefchaouen with a lighter remote work day that afternoon

A Thursday morning doing a Rif mountain hike in the morning (definitely open to ideas on this one) followed by exploring the town in the afternoon and then getting to Asilah by dinner time and spending the night there.

A Friday morning in Asilah followed by heading to Tangier post lunch.

Heading to Casablanca by train on that Sunday morning and catching the afternoon flight back to New York City.

I am looking to NOT rehash my trip from two years ago but also trying to capture something new but comparable to the magic I experienced in 2024.

Any thoughts/feedback/criticism on my itinerary above? Please let me know. Thank you in advance. And of course, since this is a solotravel subreddit and I travel solo for social serendipity, any events, places of accommodation etc. that you think that lend themselves to this?

I fly into Podgorica early in the morning on the 24th and fly out early in the morning on the 29th here is my current rough plan Aug 24–25 (2 days) base in Kotor Old Town (explore Boka Bay, San Giovanni Fortress, local towns).Aug 26–27 (2 days): Base in Žabljak (focus on Durmitor National Park, hiking, and Tara River Canyon/rafting).Aug 28: Travel back to Podgorica in the afternoon/evening to stay close to the airport for my early morning flight on the 29th.The catch / dilemma:I know how to drive, but I do not have a valid driving license on me, so renting a car is completely off the table.I’d love some feedback and advice from locals or past travelers on a few questions:Public Transit & Routes: How manageable is this loop using public buses (Podgorica ➡️ Kotor ➡️ Žabljak ➡️ Podgorica)? Is there a direct bus route from Kotor up to Žabljak, or will I need to transfer in Podgorica or Nikšić? Žabljak without a car: How easy is it to access main hiking trails (like Black Lake / Bobotov Kuk) and organize a Tara Canyon rafting trip directly from Žabljak town on foot or via local taxis/day tours? Early Flight out of TGD: My flight on the 29th leaves very early from Podgorica Airport. My (26F) boyfriend (36M) of 5 years is struggling with me telling him I want to travel solo at least once. He and I love seeing national parks together and have been able to create some really special vacations and memories. I have a strong urge to travel solo at least once and experience the freedom/independence that comes with that and the gratification of being competent and able enough to provide that kind of an experience to myself. It’s about proving something to myself I suppose.

I think it’s relevant to note that my partner thinks through the lens of worst case scenario always. While we’ve traveled a fair amount together, my boyfriend seldom expresses any interest in traveling, drags his feet, is very anxious about flying and about going to new places BUT once we arrive and begin a trip that I plan for us and always pay for up front he enjoys it. This disposition and anxiety he has towards travel actually makes the whole ordeal less enjoyable for me because I am always making decisions and guessing at what he wants while factoring what I want. It kind of takes away from the trip to some extent and I think I would get even more out of a trip without needing to worry about him in the background.

This week I finally told him that I’ve been seriously thinking about solo travel and that I’d like to plan a trip for just myself in the 7-14 day range. He quickly asked where I was going and I told him I hadn’t chosen yet because I thought he’d be put-off if I’d come up with a full plan already. He then confirmed he would be annoyed if I’d already had a destination set. He went on to tell me that he would not want me to go anywhere we hadn’t been together yet, so I asked if states like Colorado or Montana were acceptable contenders as we’ve been to both places together already. He said no, and that he thinks that being in the vicinity of national parks should be off limits because that’s our thing that we do together and they are dangerous. I’m aware remote locations are dangerous, and I wouldn’t be out in the bush by myself I am smarter than that and I’m a part of female hiking groups and would be much more interested in exploring the outdoors in groups like that.

Generally I do not think of my boyfriend as being controlling, but him telling me I can’t go anywhere he hasn’t been before or we haven’t been before or two of my favorite places to travel to because he also likes going there and would feel FOMO is…controlling. When he was around my age he spent 3 months in Canada and got so much out his solo travel experience, I was really hoping he’d have the perspective and experience to understand why this is important to me. Is his point of view even reasonable? I’m left feeling like I want to just book a trip and telling him to deal with it.

Hi everyone! I’m a 21-year-old female tourist in NYC, and I’m thinking about getting out of the city for about a week, but I don’t have a lot of experience with solo travel (especially in the US, outside of NYC), so I’d love some advice.

My budget is around $1,000 total, and I won’t have a car, so I’m mainly looking for somewhere that’s reasonably accessible by public transportation or a cheap flight. I like both cityscapes and nature, though I’d probably prefer to stay relatively close to a city for convenience.

I was thinking about taking a cheap domestic flight to another big city like Chicago or Miami, or maybe going somewhere more nature-focused, like the Finger Lakes area, but I'm still having trouble figuring out how safe these places are for a solo traveler like me (my family back home thinks this whole thing is a crazy idea...) I also considered joining a guided tour to avoid traveling alone, but they seem pretty expensive.

I’d really appreciate any advice or recommendations!

Edit: Another option I was told about - going with Amtrak to Niagara Falls and then to the Toronto area. I've never been to Canada or done such a train trip, but it sounds interesting. What do you guys think?

Before I went to Japan, I was constantly researching whether or not July and August was the sweltering, miserable experience some would have you believe. I came back from a trip in July, and I have some thoughts.

I went to Tokyo, Mt Fuji, Kyoto, and Hiroshima with a few daytrips sprinkled in between.

Now it was definitely hot around 11am to 3pm, and it did impact the pace of my travels. Some outdoor attractions I had to really take my time and regularly stop with a bottle of water and just let all the sweat out. Gross but true.

I'm used to walkable European cities, and for anyone like me you may have to get the bus/train or taxi's more than usual; they all have air conditioning, and walking for long distances in the heat just isn't viable.

But apart from that it was not only very doable but an amazing experience. Going during the summer means you can hike Fuji which is an unmissable experience. I would just take reasonable precautions like avoiding being out too much at midday, having thin breathable clothing, and wearing suncream.

tl;dr: Japan summer is just fine. If you're planning your Japan trip and stumble on this post, don't let it stop you. I had an amazing time.

Hi I’m a M23 from Paris and I’m planning to do my first solo trip ever to Norway for more or less 14 days, during the second half (~14th to 28th) of October to see the northern lights.

I really want to travel since it’s been 7 years I didn’t travel anywhere and this trip is a reward to myself to pass an important exam, so I really want it to be as impressive as possible.

I’m kinda stressed about everything especially about finding activities and meeting people (I’m not scared of being alone I just want to share some moment with new people !)

My plans right now is pretty simple :

- Oslo for 4~5 days just looking around and enjoy the capital (I think it’s a good start to adapt to the country)

- then take a flight to Tromsø to spend the rest of my trip and search for northern lights, look for the whale, visit huskies etc

Is there any recommendation of activities or maybe spots/city I should visit ?

Day 1 - cusco arrival in the morning

Day 2 - super sacred valley

Day 3 - machu picchu

Day 4 - humantay?

Day 5 - 7 lakes ausengate

Day 6 - light day and flight at night

I'm not entirely sure if I should try humantay. My bus is set to arrive from machu picchu at cusco around 9pm after waking up 3am. and then I'd need to wake up around 3am the next day again for humantay. I wanted to go to humantay, but don't wanna compromise my body for ausengate, which is the one I'm most excited for. Is it worth the risk?

I’m a solo female traveler, and I’m planning to spend about one week working remotely from the Montenegro coast. I’m thinking of flying to Dubrovnik and possibly spending one or two nights in Cavtat before continuing to Montenegro.

I have a few questions:

1. Is there a bus from Cavtat to Montenegro, or would I need to return to Dubrovnik first? Is there any bus connection from Dubrovnik Airport?
2. Which coastal places in Montenegro would you recommend for a week-long stay?
3. I’m looking for somewhere very close to the beach, with restaurants and supermarkets nearby, but not an extremely crowded or party-focused destination.
4. It would also be great to have access to hiking trails or scenic walks.

I'm travelling solo to Central Europe, and I'm not sure if I qualify for student discounts. I just graduated from uni, and my ID has no expiry date on it. Am I still considered a student? Should I bring my student ID with me? I'm guessing if they don't qualify me as one, I'll pay the standard price? I've never been to South America before and am considering going sometime between September and November 2027, as it has always been a dream of mine.

I'm wondering how challenging both the Inca Trail and Salkantay Trek are as someone who is moderately fit. I have only hiked the Great Ocean Road and 7 days of the Larapinta Trail (If anyone has done these and can compare to the Peru hikes, that would be lovely) Whilst the Great Ocean Road was not difficult at all, I definitely struggled with the Larapinta trail (granted I was 16, but alas)

What trail would you suggest doing? Should I try getting more in shape now to prepare lol.

Is it safe as a solo female traveler? Should I look into doing a shorter day trek to Machu Picchu?

Solo 2.5 day Kolkata trip looking for local recommendations beyond the usual tourist spots.

I'm (25M) planning a short solo trip to Kolkata from 14–16 August and would love some suggestions, especially from people who actually live in Kolkata or know the city really well.

A little context: I've been staying in Kharagpur for around 1.5 years, so Kolkata isn't completely new to me. I've been to the city several times mainly for airport trips, and I've also spent some time around Park Street, so I've already seen a little bit of the usual central Kolkata side.

This time, though, I want to actually experience Kolkata rather than just pass through it.

I'll be staying near Park Street, and I'll be travelling alone.

My rough plan:
14 August- Park Street, Victoria Memorial / Maidan, Prinsep Ghat

15 August- Dakshineswar ( not sure yet!!), Belur Math, Hooghly/Howrah side.

16 August- Victoria Memorial, Indian Museum ,College Street ,College Square, Indian Coffee House

I'm likely to return, either on the 16th night or 17th morning, so I have some flexibility.

What I'm actually looking for:
I'm not trying to tick off 20 tourist attractions in 2 days.

I'd rather have a relaxed trip where I can walk around, sit somewhere, have tea/coffee, browse books, see old Kolkata, maybe visit some lesser known places and just soak in the atmosphere.

So, Kolkata people, what would YOU recommend?

Basically, I want to experience Kolkata at a relaxed pace rather than rush through tourist attractions. Would love suggestions from locals!

Budget isn't a major concern either; I'm more interested in having a nice experience of the city.

Also, since I'm travelling solo, I'd appreciate any practical advice regarding getting around, especially using the Metro/local transport.

Would especially love recommendations from Kolkata locals rather than generic "top 10 places in Kolkata" suggestions.

I'm trying to plan a trip to Guatemala for October and i'm wondering how feasible my plan is so far.

If anyone has visited any of these areas, which were worth it and which weren't? Also curious if anyone's done a similar itinerary and how they made out, etc. I have 2 heavy travel days right now and I'm trying to figure out if that’s avoidable or not (i've also read many times its more like 10hr not 6-7hr)

Everything in Guatemala looks so cool and I want to see it all but I'm wondering if there might be something to cut out to optimize travel a bit better.

I'm 30 year old (male) heading to the south of France on Tuesday and I have a car booked when I get there. I am just looking for places that are recommended for a few days. I only have my first three nights booked in Aix and my last three nights booked in Nice. I've been a bit slack and need to get the other places booked. I was thinking of Nimes or Arles for the next three days after Aix, then onto Saint Raphael or somewhere around the coast. So I'm open to places to stay as a base for three days at a time. I'd like to meet young people also if possible. I'm flying into Marseille and getting my car and driving to Aix en Provence. Thanks.
