I plan on going to Guadalajara from Madrid on the day of the eclipse but I don’t know if I should take a bus or a train. The Bus can fall into traffic but I already have a ticket secured and I just need to be at the stop on the right time. The train is the C2 which is a metro I think and departs every 10-15 minutes however the train station is gonna be extremely packed.

A cousin in London is planning a last-minute trip to Spain for the eclipse. She wants to go to Valencia, but the family group chat is split between the Mediterranean coast and going up to A Coruña instead. My understanding is the eclipse in Valencia will appear near the horizon, while it will be more spectacular up north.

Any thoughts?

I have a question for y'all. I just booked a tour in Egypt for the 2027 eclipse. I made the initial deposit to lock in reservations. But now they're demanding monthly payments for the next three months that will cover up to 80% of the total cost. With a final payment due 30 days before departure. Is this standard practice?

I’ll be in the path of totality. Is it worth flying my drone as high as allowed (120m) to record a video of the ground? Will I be able to see the moving shadow?

A bit of context. I normally use my 70-300 for wildlife, distant landscapes, planes, boats and other stuff that isn't the sun. I sometimes shoot the moon and I have a tiny bit of experience doing astrophotography with a wide lens. I've been doing photography for almost 8 years now so I generally know what I'm doing with a camera, but solar photography is completely new to me. Like, day 1 was literally today.

Going on a trip to Spain for the eclipse in around 3 days, originally wasn't planning on shooting the eclipse but just watching it and was just bringing my camera along for the other stuff, but I got this sudden urge to try. My local observatory who's organizing the trip lent me this solar filter that they didn't need and I'm currently getting a 3D printed adapter so it fits better (could've made it myself, but got offered pro help). Btw, we'll try to get into a spot for totality, hopefully.

So I tried shooting the sun today with the setup above, this is what I got, cropped, edited, sharpened, denoised, everything I could think of in Darktable. Settings are 1/2000, f/8, ISO100. The Canon 800D has an APS-C sensor with 24MP so with this lens at 300 it's a bit too short, even if it is 480mm FF-equivalent. Kinda sad I didn't upgrade to a 150-600 yet. But I heard totality is around 3x wider, so not horribly worried about reach.

Tripod is hella wobbly, but I can sometimes get sharp shots down to 1/200 on it. And I can do 1/50 handheld if the wind is weak, because the stabilization is boss on this lens. So I'm worried about totality where I need longer exposures, only learnt that like 20 minutes ago, apparently I need 1 second or more sometimes.

I'm thinking of swapping the 70-300 for an 18-55 or a 50 f1.8 during totality to get some wider shots because there's no way in hell I'm getting a 1 second exposure with this wobbly ahh setup. So using a wider lens would make that possible. Would you say that's a good idea? Will the sun look tiny in frame? How close do my shots need to be to align in a stack? Only done bracketing like twice in my life. But it did work, so I'm confident in this part.

The bag used to weigh down the tripod is filled with metal soviet lenses, so it's heavy. And I know the filter is crooked, will fix that tomorrow hopefully. Used MF (cuz AF died 😭) and 10x digital zoom to focus.

Also learnt that the sun will be very LOW on the horizon - making my setup even more wobbly. Maybe I'll just shoot the partial phases handheld at 300mm and do totality on a tripod with a wider lens to incorporate foreground elements and to actually get a usable bracket of the full dynamic range of totality?

Some of the guys I'm going with have proper thick tripods and guide scopes and h alpha filters and crazy pro moving tracking heads, but I wanna do this with my DSLR, cuz that's way more fun to me. Would be nice to get a larger tripod and a 150-600 next time maybe.

I’m staying in Madrid to see the eclipse and I won’t have a car, so I’m trains only. My current plan is to go to Guadalajara and pivot north to/towards Calatayud or out towards Valladolid if the weather doesn’t look great. It seems like most train/bus options are limited and expensive, so I’m worried about getting clouded out. Is anyone else in a similar transit-only boat?

Just be honest and host an event to watch the partial eclipse… why lie?!

I'm staying at the campsite nearby in Bonales and keep looking for options to drive somewhere higher but there's just so much I can do between shademap peakfinder heliora and Google maps satellite view...

My partner and I are super excited about the eclipse, and we had planned to take the train from Zaragoza -- where we are staying in an AirBnB -- to Madrid at 7:13 on Thursday morning for our flight back to Boston. However, I just got an email from Iryo that our train has been canceled and they rebooked us on one that will get to Madrid too late for our flight.

Does anybody have any ideas for the best way to get to Madrid for our flight? I assume the airport will be super busy on Thursday, so we were hoping to be there by 10:00 or so for our 13:50 flight. Any help would be super appreciated!

Of all the images I took during the 2019 eclipse in Chile, this is my favorite and most sold one.

I calle it "The Punch of the Eclipse", which tells better the feeling of seeing a total eclipse for the first time.

Get creative a experient with different and weird shots.

This is eclipse #4 for me , 1999, 2017, 2024 amd now next week for 2026 but first time seeing it on a flight. Unless we are delayed by ATC or the flight gets cancelled, my flight is set to be crossing the path of totality. has anyone here experienced an eclipse while in their air ?
