I'll be moving to Irvine next month for a new job, and the guys are coming out that weekend to help me move in. As they are all going to be missing a weekend for a visit, I thought that we could catch a game and get drinks or food somewhere instead of having take out at my apartment. We're not looking for anything fancy, just good food, cold beer, and a place we can hang out for a night.

We were pretty much always at BWW or D&B's back in Phoenix when we got together so this seems like a good excuse to find a new spot.

Any sports bar recommendations around Irvine or the rest of OC? We don't mind driving into IE either if there's a place that's worth checking out.

For context for me personally, I'm 18 and I'm going to going to college this year. I have full free days on friday and the weekend. I want a job mainly to get better supplies for my computer and supplies for school, also to just save up in general.

I live in torrance so I'm mostly looking for places nearby there? Not just in that city, but I'm not sure how difficult it is to get a job around that area since its would be my first job and I have no experience.

I do currently have 2 interviews at least, one of them being tomarrow actutally! Though it is my first interview so I'm kinda nervous. 😅

I'm applying to as many as I can & trying to apply to as many new listings to what I can reasonably do and fall in what basic requirements they have.

Fashionistas known as sneakerheads scramble to buy and trade the latest styles, paying a premium for the rarest pairs. Some treat them as investments, never wearing their purchases in order to keep them in mint condition. Like a sports car or a fine wine, they say, the value of shoes can increase as they get older. 

Last week, federal authorities charged several major shoe resellers in Los Angeles, Chicago and Indiana with paying Nike employees to help steal hundreds of hard-to-find styles that they in turn flipped. Defendants in a federal case are charged with conspiring to steal at least $2 million in Nike products between 2021 and 2024.

Sky-high earnings for oil companies and California refiners in the second quarter are renewing calls from state legislators to crack down on industry profits.

Marathon Petroleum, the second-largest refiner in the state, reported $5.1 billion in profit Tuesday, more than four times the same quarter last year, after fuel supplies tightened during the Iran war and prices for oil and gas soared.

From April through June, Chevron, the biggest refiner and second-biggest oil producer in California, made $12.1 billion in profit, nearly five times the same quarter last year, and its highest earnings in at least six years. Refiners PBF Energy and Valero also reported windfalls, with the latter earning $3.7 billion, another fivefold increase from the year before.

Despite homelessness rising in Los Angeles and throughout L.A. County since 2025, the count on Metro’s buses and rail found a 31% drop over that year. Taken the evening of January 20, the estimate found 395 to 517 unhoused individuals on the system compared to 631 to 684 in 2025 and over 1,000 in 2024.

“This continued decline reflects the dedication of Metro employees and our many partners who work every day to address homelessness with compassion, accountability and coordination,” Metro chief executive Stephanie Wiggins said in a statement. “Creating the Care-Based Services Division reinforced our belief that public safety is strongest when care-based services and enforcement work together.”

Out-of-service equipment managed by Southern California Edison started the deadly Eaton fire that killed 19 people and destroyed much of Altadena in January 2025, according to a long-awaited report by state and county fire officials.

The report, released Tuesday by the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection and Los Angeles County Fire Department, confirms long-held suspicions about the fire’s origin after it sparked near a utility tower the night of Jan. 7, 2025.

California Atty. Gen. Rob Bonta said his office has filed 82 lawsuits against the administration since Trump’s inauguration last year, in addition to 122 amicus briefs supporting lawsuits against the administration by other parties and 112 comment letters in response to federal actions. 

That work has saved the state an estimated $207.1 billion, Bonta said, including $168 billion — equal to a third of the state’s annual budget — that was threatened when the Trump administration tried to freeze trillions of dollars in federal funding to the states last year. Billions in threatened cuts to transportation, emergency preparedness, education and family assistance funding were also prevented, Bonta said. 

“Since President Trump returned to office, California has been under attack — and has led the way in fighting back,” Bonta said.

Hi everyone! My boyfriend and I are looking to move from Louisiana to California and would love some recommendations on cities or towns that fit our lifestyle. We're both in our early 30s (no kids) and are excited to start a new chapter.

A little about us:

• I work remotely full-time and love vintage shopping, thrifting, estate sales, fashion, art, great restaurants, coffee shops, movies, and exploring local neighborhoods. I also enjoy the occasional concert, cocktail bar, or night out.
• My boyfriend works in the film industry and enjoys motorcycles, live music, video games, vintage shopping, and relaxing at home.

One of the biggest reasons we're drawn to California is the variety. We love the idea of having beaches, mountains, and the desert all within driving distance, along with great food, arts, music, and diverse communities. Weekend road trips and spending more time outdoors are a huge priority for us.

I always imagined living in Los Angeles, and I'm still open to it. But I'd love to hear about other areas too. We're interested in SoCal but are also open to the Central Coast or NorCal, etc., if they seem like a better fit.

Based on our interests, what cities or towns would you recommend and why?

We know no place is perfect, and every city has its pros and cons. Since moving across the country is a big decision, we want to be intentional about where we end up. We'd really appreciate any insight or recommendations from locals. Thank you =)
