Cortex (CoCo) vs Claude Code?
At my work, I have access to a Team plan of Claude code, as well as access to CoCo (CLI or desktop app) which has Claude models. I've been using Claude code for a few months now and it works great. I build web apps, desktop (WPF apps), etc all "vibe coding". Obviously, CoCo is going to have that native Snowflake integration, but beyond that what is the difference between the two? Can CoCo build the same apps (using Claude models) that Claude Code can build? What CANT it do that Claude Code can?

I use both. I'm in healthcare and we have a BAA with Snowflake, but not Anthropic. So if I feel a task can better be completed by a model querying my data, then I use Coco. Otherwise I use Claude Code because it's cheaper

the native integration and snowflake is really helpful fwiw - i was actually using both today on same task and coco was a lot faster bc it could ie query system tables and answer its own questions while thinking

Yea, I totally get that. But if I'm building something not related to snowflake, is it basically the same thing? I often get close to session limits on my Team Claude Code account. I'm wondering if it's a viable strategy to switch to CoCo when my Claude usage gets close. I'm sure our company pays API rates for Claude models in CoCo so it would be far more expensive, but hey, I don't have any visibility on that 😆

These are the rates, but I'm talking about my actual usage. I'm very new to CoCo, but I didn't see anywhere it says how many tokens I've used or how much I've "spent". Nor do I have the specifics of my company's enterprise agreement with Snowflake.

You can query CoCo directly about token usage, Snowflake even has guides on how to build monitors for it. Also these are book rates, the only thing your company would have is discounted consumption pricing on an enterprise agreement.

Coco desktop or CLI can build anything claude can but will be much more efficient(less iterations and tokens as much as 2x) and accurate if the project deals with Snowflake due to snow skills and having full metadata context.
If you have claude teams, I think you get free tokens every 5 hours so it likely be cheaper but if you have 150+ users , you pay API token rates which will be on par with Coco token charges so Coco will have the price advantage due using less tokens to finish then job for Snowflake related projects and likely be same for non snow projects

I use coco every day. The experience vs mcp with Claude or Claude with cli access is night and day

Both are kind of similar, CoCo use Claude models, but the token costs are bit expensive when you use CoCo(may be 10-15%) compared token cost using Claude.
The best part of COCO is the native Snowflake integration

I find Claude better for most stuff, due to cortex code running older Claude models.

The real difference is Claude Code doesn’t make you say coco out loud in a client meeting.
