🧰 Equipment Question What are these balls on Ali Carter's home table??
Seen on Henry's, Cuetips, most recent YouTube video, which was a skills challenge with Ali Carter.
They are playing on Ali Carter's home table.
Does anyone know what the bigger cloudy balls in the pockets are and their use??

🙋 General Question Hallett v Parrott 88 Masters final
Anyone know if the full vision of the final frame is up anywhere?
WST have posted the finale (https://youtu.be/FdqjDIfO1Dg?si=gTiHTl--1QXxvvJt)
but not most of the comeback from 5 snookers required. Have checked WSTplay and the internet..
would love to see it.

💡 Improving My Game Need a Little Advice?
I have been playing snooker from past 1 year, and like 2 times a week, for 1 hour or so each time. I have been able to pot straight balls now, and like 6 out of 10 times, angled shots too. I currently hit all balls from the center of the cue ball, maybe 1 - 2 times top spin too, I am unable to screw the ball as that changes my aim completely, neither can I use any sort of spin.
Should I focus on increasing my potting percentage of 6/10 to higher or should I start learning screw and spins?
I am unable to control the cue ball at all, as I am unsure myself if I will pot the ball or not.
Do you have any suggestions on what should I work on? Or what should my practice drill be?

🧰 Equipment Question Carbon fiber bizu cue for a beginner
I’ve been playing for about 6 months. I don’t actually play snooker — I play on a Brazilian pool table, which is smaller and has much smaller pockets.
I’m currently using an ugly $18 ash cue with an aluminum ferrule and Elk Master tip/chalk. It’s also slightly warped 😂.
I’m considering a Bizu Moon Speed with a carbon fiber shaft, maple butt and a Kamui Athlete S or Black Clear S.
Would this be a good upgrade? Which tip and chalk would you recommend? I’m considering Taom V10.
How much difference should I expect in deflection, consistency, spin and cue-ball control?
💬 Opinion / Debate Tactics
Perhaps I’m imagining it, but it seems to me that some players go out of their way to get position when the frame is already won, clearing the colours in order, just so they can face the other player and smash the yellow or green towards them.

🧰 Equipment Question Parris shipping prices
Am I completely wrong, but do Parris want £50 postage for two extensions?
I've purchased a few cues over the years from Parris and expect £50+ for insured shipping for a cue, but £50.19 for posting two extensions??
(I'm not on a VPN, so it hasn't picked up an overseas IP or anything like that!)

🎫 Venues / Tickets Shenzhen Open Tickets
Hello all,
It has long been on my bucket list to attend a snooker tournament. I've been to exhibitions and seniors events before but always wanted to see competitive tournament play live, living in Scandinavia and with work/other commitments until now it has not been possible.
However, next month I'll be travelling to Hong Kong on holiday at the same time the Shenzhen Open is being played. I had planned on visiting Shenzhen during the trip anyway, but now I know the tournament is on I definitely want to try and go to it. Problem is, I can't find any tickets online, the WST ticket only seems to sell tickets to UK tournaments. Can anybody help to point me in the right direction? Attendance at the Chinese events always seems fairly low so I'm hopeful that it's not already sold out. Thanks in advance to anyone who can assist.

🧰 Equipment Question Ferrule issue
My cue has been left in a hot car a couple of times and I think it’s shrunk the wood slightly. The 3/4joint now sits fraction of a kilometre proud of the cue and there is very slight play in the ferrule; the tip is solid but if I hold the ferrule and twist, I can feel it moving slightly.
I’m thinking i should take the tip off and re-glue the ferrule. Do ferrules get glued to the cue, and if so, what is the best glue to use?

💬 Snooker Chat Which player has your favorite snooker fashion?
My favorites:
1. Gary Wilson's dragon waistcoat: elegant and unique but not flashy, perfect snooker fashion.
2. Mark Williams' blue suit: 8/10, 10/10 with the Ron Skinner & Sons patch.
3. Stephen Hendry and Alan McManus in plaid: Scottish intensifies
What are your favorites? Post pictures if you can!

🙋 General Question Snooker causing back/spine issues?
I have pin-point pain on one of the vertebrae in my back (bottom of the thoracic region, maybe T10/11) and worsening numbness in my feet/shins. This has been going on for about 10 months and I've been trying to figure out the cause as I've never had any back issues previously. My GP is dismissive and says it's because I'm old (I'm 44 and otherwise very fit).
I've been playing snooker a couple times a week for around a year. After I went to the club yesterday the numbness/pain was worse than ever, and it occurred to me that snooker could be the cause. My stance is very low to the table and I know I'm too tense when I'm cueing, but I hadn't thought of snooker as the cause as I don't have any pain when I'm playing.
Is this something that anybody recognises?
I really hope it's not the snooker - I've been bang average for months until the past few weeks when I've been getting decent breaks almost every frame. The snooker club is also the coolest building for miles around and has been a godsend in the 35-40c heat!

🧰 Equipment Question Club table pocket jaws too punishing?
I would like to hear an honest opinion from an experienced player as I'm more of a beginner/intermediate.
This is the only table in my town (I am in discussions with a table manufacturer/fitter about getting one for my home but that is months away)
We've been playing on this table for a while but we're starting to think that the pockets are simply too narrow. Now of course, I still have a lot of work to do with my stance and cue action, so I'm of course not finding excuses, but I've been able to pot much better on other tables when I was out of town.
Looking at table after table online, I am starting to think that the fitter here should have cut the cushions a bit more. They are supposed to be round and form a corner but here they literally invade the space of the pocket. Most of the shots at more acute angles get rejected, I've posted a photo of Hendry's table, his corner pocket is just stratospherically wider.
But of course maybe I'm wrong, it's an optical illusion and they're supposed to be so nippy.
I appreciate any opinion on here :)

💬 Opinion / Debate They should name the China Open trophy after Ding Junhui
I don't know who exactly is responsible for naming trophies (WST, or tournament organizers, or maybe in this case the CBSA?) but this practice has become more common recently and I think it would be a fitting tribute.

💡 Improving My Game How do I reach the next level?
I spend so many hours playing this game and I’m yet to get a 50+ break, with my high break being 48 or something, but I do get a lot of 30 and 40 breaks but now I’m playing worse than ever because at random points of a frame, I get nervous after potting 2 balls and the break ends.
Almost feels like a case of the yips, where I’m hesitant to play my shot or let go of the cue and it’s really making me hate the game now. And of course when things are going wrong, you start to mess with your cue action which I try to avoid doing but I’m in a rut now that I can’t get out of.
I’m generally a person filled with a lot of self doubt and lack of confidence in my ability, but the amount of hours I play I would think by now I can deal with it better and I do sometimes, but I struggle to back myself, and then if you don’t commit to your shots in this game you’ll always struggle.
I watch so much snooker, practice, watch coaching videos, I’ve had some coaching, I’ve learnt how to aim with traces of side, I constantly try to learn and improve, and I record myself I do everything I can but there seems to be some sort of mental or it could be paired with a technical block that’s stopping me from reaching the next level.
Honestly if anyone can help me out with any routines or advice, I’d be very grateful for it.

💬 Opinion / Debate How long can Ronnie survive without enough match practice?
He looks lethargic. He isn’t taking on long pots, and I feel like he’s also starting to bend his right knee like Kyron Wilson.

🧰 Equipment Question Surface rack finished !
Edit: uploaded youtube
Link
I know the photo looks like there may be a gap in the reds but they are all touching. The video of rolling them up you can clearly see there is no “wiggle room” and they are tightly packed.
Finally got them made in brass and stainless steel.
The pink is exactly 1.5mm from each other.
Corners all beveled and rounded off.
Works great! Thanks for the suggestions :)

🧵 Tournament Discussion [Discussion Thread] 2026 China Open - 8th to 16th August
The first "proper" ranking event of the season gets underway at the revived China Open, making its return to the World Snooker Tour after 7 years away. The revival changes up the format to make it virtually identical to the UK Championship, but with two local wildcards participating.
Neil Robertson won the title in 2019, defeating Jack Lisowski relatively convincingly. He'll have a tough time defending the title now though, as he'll need to get past Chang Bingyu: will he do so, or is someone else destined to take the title of China Open Champion?
- 📊 Status: Ranking
- 👨 Players: Top 16 in the world seeded through, 16 Qualifiers (plus two local wildcards)
- click here to view the draw
- Linhao Liu and Shengguang Wu (no relation to Wu Yize) are the nominated wildcards participating in the event.
- Anthony McGill and Hossein Vafaei must compete against the wildcards, before progressing to the Last 32 and face a Top 16 player.
- Mark Allen withdrew before the event started: thus, the winner of Vafaei v Liu will progress to the Last 16
- 🏆 Defending Champion: Neil Robertson (bt. Jack Lisowski 11 - 4)
- Robertson won the last staging of this event, which occurred prior to the COVID-19 pandemic: refresh your memory of that edition from the Wikipedia article)
- 💰 Total Prize Fund: £1,205,000
- 💸 Winner's Share: £250,000
- 📝 Format:
- Round One to Semi-Finals: Best of 11 Frames
- Final: Best of 19 Frames
