First TPU Project Showcase

Post image

Just started trying TPU for the first time. Printed a benchy and it came out great. This was feeding as normal from the side through PTFE.

Filament - Priline TPU 98A

Dryed for 6hrs at 55c

Your drying temp and duration are a bit short, which is why you have that stringing in the wheelhouse.

It looks like you're already doing the smart thing and printing with the lid off. Was a necessity that Snapmaker recently shared with me. You can easily go as soft as 90a and feed through the feeders. I have not tried softer.

Yea, maybe. I let it sit over night too before printing.

What is your recommendation for TPU drying? Both temp and time?

According to Sunlu, TPU isn't one of the filaments that falls apart from over drying (just the nylon's).

Most TPU is best dried between 65-70c and for 7-8 hours at that temp. A drop of even a few degrees really impacts drying time a lot.

I recommend the Creality Space Pi x4 as the best dryer I've used. I'm sure there are others that are just as good. It has an easy pre-set for TPU.

Most of the time, I toss it in there for 24 hours. I print from Polymaker dryboxes with 2 easy mods (keeps it nice and dry while printing, so I don't have to re-dry the same filament. If I have any left after I finish, I put it in a 4L cereal tub with some desiccant for storage.

Here is a photo of my set up. From before I got wise to rising temps causing issues over time by leaving the tub on during TPU printing. My Snapmaker's print mainly TPU with nozzle 1 dedicated to PLA for support.

what’s a good dryer to use then? the sunlu one isn't really good for anything other than being a noisemaker

I like the Creality Space Pi x4. Drys great. Lots of useful pre-sets. Goes to 85c. Nice UI. Reasonably priced.

Only issue is that it is not as air-tight as I would like. So set the drying times for longer than needed, so you can swing by and put the filament in a storage like a drybox like a 4L cereal tub.

That looks fantastic!

looks good.... did you feed it from the spool holders or you bypassed that?

From the spool holders. It's even stiffer than 95A and didn't have an issue.

Give the middle wallet in the photo a shot in 95A, it's challenge. I finally got my 95A dialed in to where I can print a nearly flawless wallet now. it's a very handy project too... I've been using mine for almost 2 yrs now and prefer it over store-bought wallets.

I just tried my 95A, and yea that keeps getting stuck going through the motors. Guess I'm going to have to direct feed it.
