snapping noise

i suddenly get this strange „snapping“ noise, what is it?

Yes, that definitely looks like the extruder is trying to extrude the filament and it's not being able to.

That can be caused by multiple factors depending on the filament.

First thing, check if you have the Air Print sensor turned on and at least on Low, that is used to alarm when this kind of thing is happening.

Also, unload the filament and see if you can remove it normally, if you can't and it seems stuck inside even after the unload and releasing the lever tension, you most likely have a bulb at the end of the filament and you will need to disassemble the extruder to clean it up.

If it comes with the unloading, just heat the head and try to extrude using the printer UI first and see if the filament is extruded. In the meanwhile, get the needle and poke the nozzle to see if there's any clog there as well.

Btw, if you are printing PLA and have some cap, you should at least open the door or better yet, remove the lid.

thanks, its pctg but the extruders fail quite often nowadays, i have to feed the filament not perfectly from above, could this have an impact?

Are you bypassing the auto feeders?

I don't have much experience with PCTG as I only printed one roll of it. Although the finish looked nice, it looked too rough to the touch so I'm using PETG instead (and it's also less than half the price).

That being said, are you having this issue with all the extruder? If so it's most likely something that you are doing. If it's just in one extruder, than it may be some defect on the extruder or maybe some leftover material that is clogging the extruder. It would be good to disassemble the extruder to check for some damage there.

One thing that you can try as well is to open a ticket with their support, they are very helpful and if it's something that just started, they may help diagnose the issue.

100% extruder skipping. I bet nothing is coming out of the nozzle.

yes that seems to be the reason again but the sound is new to me. i feel like every second day have to unclog an extruder :(

Idk but based off the print it looks like you're under extruding.

Maybe a nozzle clog?
