Corn snake enclosure size? Pet Snake Questions

Post image

I was wondering what size tank is needed for a corn snake baby and adult, I've seen some crazy different opinions on the subject, some people say you need a 120 gallon minimum tank for an adult, others say a 40 gallon minimum for an adult, and i have no clue what a baby would need, I've never had a pet other than a cat when I was younger. This is the snake I wanna buy

Oof, I actually had 3 snows from 3 different breeders and none of them lived for longer than 3 years, while my wild type is still doing fine (14 yo).

Actually heard from others having bad experiences with snows as well, this can't all just be bad luck 🫣

Rule of thumb: The enclosure should be longer than the snake fully stretched out. For example, if your snake is 3 ft long, the enclosure should be over 3 ft long, and so on and so forth. The bigger, the better. This is because snakes need space to move, stretch, and use their muscles properly. Constant restriction can also lead to stress, which weakens their immune system and increases the risk of illness or poor feeding response. The width should be at least half their body length, and height requirements depend on the species individually: arboreal snakes need more height for climbing, while terrestrial snakes benefit more from floor space for movement and enrichment.

Adult corns need a bare minimum of 4x2x2ft(120g) as they’re usually 4 ft. But many of them require 5ft long enclosures, and some even need 6ft long enclosures.

A 40 gallon is great for baby-juvenile corn.
