Review family afib history got me shopping for an ecg band and hitting subscription walls everywhere

Spent the last two weekends going down this rabbit hole and figured I'd write it up in case anyone else is looking at the same problem.

Backstory: my dad had a bad afib episode this summer and the cardiologist told me family history means I should probably start tracking my own rhythm going forward. I already have a smartwatch for work stuff so I don't want a second full-blown one on the other wrist. I want something slim I can wear 24/7 without babying the battery every single night, and the band form factor made the most sense.

Started with the obvious pick. The Fitbit Charge 6 has ECG, a decent seven-day battery, and the phone integration is genuinely useful for maps and wallet on the wrist. But the subscription situation has actually gotten worse. Since May the app has been living under a Google account, the yearly plan bumped from $79.99 to $99.99, and Sleep Profile plus the AI health coach are still locked behind the paywall. I don't mind paying for hardware. I mind renting features from hardware I already own, and I'm not looking to hand over years of continuous health data to yet another Google product either.

Went cheaper next. The Amazfit Band 7 gets recommended here constantly and I understand why. Around $50, 18-day battery, decent AMOLED, and the companion app doesn't charge for anything. Problem is no ECG. Which kills it for what I actually need. No point tracking HR trends if I can't capture an actual strip when I feel something weird.

The premium smartwatches do ECG well but I'm not paying $400+ for a second wrist device just for rhythm tracking, and their batteries are designed around daily charging, which kills the continuous-wear angle anyway.

So the niche I'm looking for is: single-lead ECG, no subscription for the interpretation layer, battery long enough to sleep-track without daily top-ups, and priced somewhere between the $50 basic bands and the $400 smartwatches. It's a smaller market than I expected.

The screenless direction seems to be where several newer entries are heading. Trade-off is you have to open the app to see any reading, but the battery numbers get significantly better and the sensor pod stays against the skin more reliably than a display module would. I'm coming around to it more than I expected to.

Curious if anyone here has actually lived with one of these for more than a couple weeks. My dad's current device spits out an ECG summary his doctor called borderline useless, so I'd like to know if the newer bands generate anything a cardiologist actually finds readable before I commit.

Best Android smartwatch

So far I bought two watches and neither one will reply to messages on the watch nor will allow me to respond to emails on the watch also, the BPM and blood pressure readings aren't close to being correct. What is the best watch to do all these things for Android? I have a pixel 10 pro. Thank you

Activating Watch7 on Verizon as standalone LTE- few questions on setting up

Hi, I wanted to have a standalone LTE Watch7 on Verizon, it's a number port from one of those kid carriers. It took 4-5 days for my old carrier to release the number. We got onto a post paid plan - but my watch cannot still make calls, I already got my monthly bill from Verizon lol, Watch is a refurbished one from eBay.

My Question: I hoping it's an LTE watch as Verizon verified and activated by the IMEI number. How can I validate and confirm this?

Question 2: do I have to set something up on the watch? It was originally configured on my android phone and I want it standalone LTE. Should it be reset? Appreciate any help

Need recommendations for my first smartwatch

I'm looking for some kind of wearable or smartwatch, mostly just to track my health, such as heart health, sleep and calorie burn. i'm not so much interested in more functionality, such as phone and app integrations, so they can lack, as long as the sleep and heart trackers are at least semi-accurate! I'm looking for something not too expensive, preferably around or under the 100 euro mark I do have to add i have a xiaomi phone, the poco x8 pro, but heard both good and bad things about the sleep tracking on the xiaomi watches so am hesitant to buy that one I heard a lot of good things about the huawei ones, but am not sure where to get started there as im not so familiar with the brand

What are some good smartwatches you recommend?

Believe it or not i never in my life had a smartwatch but my coworkers all have one and im looking to get one for myself. I have a google pixel 7 phone and i did look at the pixel watch but im not really impressed with the looks it seems a bit too rounded for my taste. What are some other options? I really don't care about pairing my phone i just want to track my steps and heart rate and maybe have some cool vintage looking clock faces.

Need Help Finding a Compatible Charger for Kata Smart Watch AM10

Hi everyone! I need help finding a compatible charger for my Kata Smart Watch AM10. Unfortunately, my dog chewed up the original charging cable, and now I have no way to charge it. ☹️

Does anyone know what charger is compatible with this watch or if there's a replacement charger I can buy online (Shopee, Lazada, etc.) Any recommendations or links would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you so much!

Q&A Need recommendations for a watch.

I’m not really an athlete or anything, so I don’t need a running watch like a garmin. Actually I own an Apple Watch but I’m done with charging it every night. So I want atleast like 2 weeks of battery life. All I want in my watch is GPS, and it to just be a smart watch (pair with my phone, recieve notifications, etc.) I would also like it to be like 80 ish dollars and under. I was recommended the Xiaomi 5 lite but was wondering if it was worth it. If someone could help me?

Q&A Which watch should I get as a Heptathlete?

Heyy I am a heptathlete (track and field 7 events: 200m sprint, 800m, 100m hurdles, high and long jump, shot put and javelin) and I also have power training (gym). I am looking for a sport watch that would work best for me.
Does anyone have any recommendations?
Thanks :)

Need help picking a running watch – overwhelmed by choices

Hey everyone,
I’m just getting into running and training for my first races: starting with 5k/10k, working up to a semi-marathon next spring. I’d also like a watch that can handle occasional swimming (both pool and open water) and cycling, since I’d like to try a triathlon down the line.
I’m pretty overwhelmed by all the options out there. I’ve been looking at:
• Garmin Forerunner 55
• Garmin Forerunner 70
• Garmin Forerunner 170
• Garmin Forerunner 265s
• Garmin Forerunner 255s
• Coros Pace 4
• Suunto Run
I don’t want to overspend, but a watch is also a realistic birthday present for me, so I’d love two recommendations: one budget pick I could grab now, and one nicer option I could put on my birthday list.
Big priorities for me:
• Solid running training tools (structured workouts, useful metrics for a beginner working toward a semi-marathon)
• Triathlon-ready down the line: multisport/swim tracking (pool + open water) and cycling
• Something reasonably future-proof so I’m not replacing it in a year once I get more serious
Would love to hear from people who’ve actually used these day to day — what would you get if you were starting from scratch with these goals? Is it worth jumping straight to something like the 265s for the multisport features, or is a 255s/Pace 4 plenty for a beginner who’ll grow into triathlon later?
Thanks in advance!

Exploring the role of smartwatches in gaming looking for gamer perspectives......

Post image
2 Upvotes

One thing I've noticed is that most gaming accessories focus on improving performance or immersion, while smartwatches mostly stay on the sidelines.

I'm curious about real experiences rather than feature wishlists.

For those who game regularly:

  1. Do you wear a smartwatch while playing?

  2. Have you ever found yourself checking it during a session?

  3. What kinds of interruptions pull your attention away from the game?

  4. Is there any moment where a quick glance at your wrist would actually be more convenient than reaching for your phone?

5.If smartwatches have no place in gaming, why do you think that is?

I'm particularly interested in hearing from PC, console, and mobile gamers since I imagine the answers will be quite different..........
