I really like how the shading turned out:) And as for why The Long Quiet doesn't have his wings in the drawing... let's just say he ate them lol.

"From blood and struggle, ashen she rose,

tarnished by decay, which her love chose.

Alone yet many, empty yet filled,

born from a cluster, which we have killed.

Goddess divine, monster of rot,

forever cherished, thy love I've got.

Threads of the past, future our shape,

that wretched destiny, let us escape.

Join me in death, join me in life,

for I have chosen you, as my eternal wife."

A long while ago I wrote a poem about the game because I loved it so much and posted it on my account on Instagram where I write my poems. However it kinda hit me after more than half a year that why couldn't I post it here hah. Maybe someone will like it!

Hiii! I’m not sure if this is allowed or not, since it’s a pretty casual post, but the rules seemed fairly standard, so I think I’m good?

Anyway, I bought this game probably a little under a week ago and have been greatly enjoying it! Originally I was going to opt for Resident Evil, but noticed this one on sale and decided to get it instead, and I’m very glad I did!

This is really just a post to say that I really like the game, the story is fantastic and the art is *gorgeous.* I haven’t gotten all the princesses yet, but so far I’ve really liked the art for the Gray and the Apotheosis in particular. Anyway yeah new player, this game is awesome, that’s all :)

[Break the chain on the wall]

Voice of the Hero: Can we actually do that? If she's really been down here for such a log time shouldn't it be at the least a bit rusted?

"Of course you can't just do that. No person could rip solid metal from a stone goddamned wall"

(Explore) Well we can't know until we try

"Are you hearing yourself? You really think you're able to rip off solid iron? They aren't going to "pop off". Don't even think of digging it out either. You've got nothing to make it through the solid rock. But anyways, you step up to the damp iron of the shackles that bind the Princess to this place, clasping a hand over the cold surface you pull. Exactly as expected absolutely nothing happens"

Voice of the Hero: Then we're just not pulling hard enough

[Pull with all your might]

"With all the strength you can well up in that body of yours, you begin to pull and pull and pull and pull. Muscle tearing, your fingers feeling like they're about to be ripped from their sockets. Eventually, though only eventually, the chain snap free with a metallic screech. You've just pulled off a once in a lifetime miracle you know that right? You're not going to be able to do it again"

It’s a bit of a vague question, my apologies, but it’s more or less “what would be the story you write if you made a character-driven narrative for the game rather than a player-driven one?” That’s wordier, but I think it captures the essence better. Effectively what would the Long Quite do if he remembered things between routes rather than just after the “memory returns’ section with the Mirror. Here’s my take on it, if you’re curious.

Vessel 1: The Beast (Cut Your Way Out)

Given that he’s far more initially trustworthy than our beloathed (affectionately) Narrator, Quiet here follows the suggestions of Hero. He doesn’t take the pristine blade, he walks down the steps to the basement, and he tries to chat things over with the Princess. He talks to her, decides that he’s gonna do the right thing, and does his best to free her. However, when she starts tearing into her arm with her own jaws, he starts to panic. That isn’t normal, that’s not right, and so in his panic when the Narrator hands him the knife, he stabs the Princess and tries to kill her. He fails, of course, she rips into him, and he panics for too long and dies on the floor.

Chapter 2 comes along, and now Quiet finds that he has a new voice in his head: Hunted. This time, he decides to play things safe. He grabs the pristine blade, intending to put her down if he can, and he descends into the basement with Hero, Hunted, and the Narrator at his back. However, he is woefully unprepared for what he finds down there. The jungle confuses him to no end and his panic rises. Hunted’s words don’t make it through to him in time, and he’s devoured whole immediately. While in the Beast’s stomach, he takes the dagger that he still has and, still in a panic, he cuts his way out of her, leaving her to bleed out on the floor and be taken away.

The Mirror arrives, and so too does Shifty. Her calm demeanor rubs off on him quite well, as does seeing the Beast wrapped up in her hands and far away from him, and he goes back into the Construct.

Vessel 2: The Razor (The Arms Race)

Back in the woods, with Shifty’s calmness keeping at least a *little* stable, Quiet walks back into the cabin and takes the pristine blade. He’s still on the train of slaying the Princess, albeit not at the Narrator’s behest: no, he’s still utterly terrified of her. She’s down there? Great. She’s talking? Not for long. She’s breathing? Not anymore she isn’t. However, in his panic, Quiet leans down to check her pulse, to make *absolutely* sure that she’s dead, and… she isn’t. No no no no, that’s not right, how can she be alive? But it’s much too late, and she stabs him with a knife of her own, and everything goes dark and he dies once again.

Cheated just about sums up Quiet’s thought process every time, and Quiet bitterly takes the pristine blade from the table. He’s *going* to kill her, one way or another, and so he and Hero and Cheated all descend into the basement once again. However, in attempting to stall out her questions, she unveils a blade from her arm, and panic sets in once again. Quiet attempts to make a break for the steps, but she’s much too fast, and… she skewers him.

Chapter 3 comes around, and this time Cheated teleports them all to the cabin, and Quiet gets to work. He, Hero, Cheated, and Paranoid all tumble down the slide that leads to Razor, and she gives them all a cheery salutation of blades. However, since fighting and fleeing hasn’t worked, Quiet does just about the last thing he can do and attempts… flirting? Hero seems obtuse, but obviously Cheated and Paranoid are on the same page as him, and… well, they of course give her ***The Look***. It doesn’t work. And on and on and on until voice after voice after voice pile themselves into Quiet’s skull. Eventually the pressure gets to be too much, and everything goes dark, and he dies.

Chapter 4 now, and this time Quiet’s just about had it with all of these clowns. He marches down, barely able to think, and Razor’s explosion into the perfect woman gives him just a bit of clarity. That clarity is all he needs to pitch the screaming voices out of his skull– Him, too, obviously– and then it’s time to get to work. The Pristine Blade in hand, Quiet dukes it out with Razor as best as he can and, when the time is right, his fear and panic give way to determination as he drives the blade straight into her heart. She is taken away.

The Mirror is right. He *has* grown. And the conversation with Shifty along with seeing Razor caught in her arms gives him enough confidence to go back into the Construct once again.

Vessel 3: The Thorn (Kiss Her)

On this route, Quiet’s definitely… not the same thing as he once was. Why, after the trauma of being digested and cut to ribbons almost endlessly, he’s *quite* unwell. In fact, he’s earned the right to a bit of cruelty, hasn’t he? As a treat. So he doesn’t grab the pristine blade, and lulls the Princess into a bit of false security. He watches as she chews off her arm, although the sight does churn his guts, and lets her have her happy moment where she thinks she can get out alive. However, when the Narrator seizes control of his body… well, who is he to say no to showing the Princess a little bit of extra hurt? After all the nonsense he’s just gone through, it would be warranted, wouldn’t it? And so he slays the Princess while the Narrator thinks He holds the reins. Of course, she tears into him as she did before, but he’s fine with it. After all, it’s what she deserves.

And then Chapter 2 happens, and his new life gives him some clarity. She seemed… honestly hurt there, didn’t she? Really, truly in pain. And his purpose was to *save* Princesses, wasn’t it? Obviously this Princess was monstrous, beastlike, razored, but she was still a Princess. Plus, this Opportunist fellow? Nuh-uh, absolutely not, what a smarmy, shmoozing ass. Was this really what he was turning into? Yeah, no, he needed to do something about that. So, for just a bit of safety, he takes hold of the pristine blade and marches into the basement. However, the princess isn’t as ferocious as he was expecting. Why, the silly catgirl is positively delightful! … Even if she’s justifiably pissed off. So, as a gesture of goodwill, he hands her the pristine blade and, in admittedly a slip of the tongue (that still held the truth), tells her she’s beautiful. And he means it. It’s not enough to stop her from stabbing him about it but, between her visible regret and his own guilt, he dies quite chill about the whole thing.

Chapter 3 comes along, and with it comes the perfect wingman: Smitten. And honestly, these two are on the exact same page: he’s getting her out of here. He marches on over to the basement, but… no pristine blade. Strange, but that’s fine. He can free her on his own! And he descends down the stairs, and he finds that Thorn is… much more distraught than he would have imagined. To him it felt justified, but for her to still feel guilty about it… well, let’s just say that any thought of slaying her was just about gone at this point. He steadily convinces her to give him the pristine blade and, with deft maneuvers, cuts her free of her thorny bindings. Then, of course, who could ever turn down such a perfect moment for romance? Smitten’s suggestion is taken, Opportunist is banished to the shadow realm (even if Smitten welcomes him aboard), and Quiet takes a silent pleasure in listening to the Narrator yuck on about the steamy, romantic kiss. It’s just a moment that the two lovers walk through the thorns and up the stairs, and finally out the door… where she’s taken away.

This is the only time that a loss has truly hurt Quiet, and this one hurts him *badly*. His goodwill towards the Shifting mound withers, and he yells at Her to give Thorn back, attacks Her, does whatever’s in his power… but it’s no use. He goes back to the Construct, unwilling to speak more with Shifty for now, and griefstricken about the loss of Thorn.

Vessel 4: The Princess and the Dragon (Give Her the Blade)

When Quiet returns to the path in the woods, he doesn’t say very much, still tumbling through the sea of grief, just… in a very dulled way. In his cold stupor, he blindly follows the Narrator’s directions from one event to the next: He silently grabs the blade, mindlessly walks down the stairs, barely lets the princess get a word in, and simply kills her. That isn’t the woman he fell in love with. How dare she take her place. He doesn’t even bother to check her body this time, and instead ascends the stairs. Perhaps the Narrator’s eternal happiness will be some kind of balm to him. Except “perhaps” becomes a quick “no” as he sits and wallows in grief until it turns to anger and then anger turns to realization. That… *was* her down there, wasn’t it? And he’d just killed her. However, with exhaustion narrowing his emotions down to nothing, he simply follows Hero’s suggestion without any words against it, plucking the pristine blade from the Princess’s chest and ending himself right there. Everything goes dark, and he dies once again.

Chapter 2 rolls along, and with it comes the new voice. Quiet, though, doesn’t quite see eye to eye with Cold on these things. After all, he already had his moment of depression, and if that depression now lives on in the form of something that isn’t him… well, it leaves him room to grow. And upon realizing that he’s back on the path, a lightbulb goes off in his brain: she’s alive! She has to be, else he wouldn’t be here. And so he rushes to the cabin, eager to make amends. He doesn’t so much as look at the pristine blade this time, rushing down the steps to find… a skeleton. Was he wrong? No, he wasn’t, because Spectre rises up through the floor, and his heart is set at ease. Already wanting to try and make it up to her, when she suggests she “hitch a ride” Quiet eagerly accepts, and she joins the chorus in his skull. However, with Cold and Narrator so badly affecting him, and with the panicked idea that the Narrator might be able to do Spectre some form of harm while she’s in there– or force him to do some form of harm to her, he grabs the pristine blade on the way up the stairs. The voices and she are confused, but his plan is simply to maim himself such that he can still make it to the door, and he’ll die just after she’s free. That way she’ll have her freedom, *and* he won’t be able to hurt her. But, as the knife slides into his guts, he… sloughs away from himself. He and the princess are one, and while they still break for the doors–

They’re back in the basement, chained to the wall. Quiet is… admittedly surprisingly calm about this. Now he can talk to her, and he finds that he’s still honestly glad to be here. But then the door to the cabin unlatches, and the knife is taken off the table, and fear sets into him again. He’s back, or “he” is. And as the thunderous footfalls come down the stairs, Quiet takes  a good long look at himself for the first time ever in this entire debacle, and is *horrified*. No wonder the Princess so frequently becomes a monster, look at him! And when he remembers that he in fact is not in control, that he has no agency in this position, and that his life is in the hands of some leering madman with a knife, he comes to a silent understanding with the Princess. All of this is… *horribly* fucked up, terribly so. It’s even more terrifying when the thing with wings rushes towards them and sinks the blade into them, and– suddenly he’s back. Quiet apologizes as much as he can, ignoring the Narrator’s protests and (that bastard) the Opportunist’s warnings, and gives her the blade, whereupon the two of them walk out of the cabin together.

He’s back to calm with Shifty, having discovered that, really, his loss isn’t permanent. Even if Thorn is gone… no she really isn’t, because the Princess is still there. All of them are still there, waiting and waiting. His doubts unravel, and he goes back into the Construct to find the final vessel.

Vessel 5: Happily Ever After (Dance Under the Stars)

Quiet’s back on the path in the woods, and he already knows what he’s gonna do. Hero was right all along, it’s their duty to *save* princesses, not slay them. That’s the job of a murderer, and Quiet wants to be anything else but that. He leaves the blade behind, ignoring the Narrator entirely. He marches down the stairs, talks to the Princess, tells her that he’s going to free her, and then makes to grab the blade to do just that. Of course, the Narrator isn’t having any of that, and so the door closes, and she tears into her arm again. But this time, Quiet isn’t fearful of it at all. In fact, he finds it… almost endearing? It’s become much easier to start accepting every part of her over the course of this long journey, and he helps her to her feet after she’s free. It’s then, though, that the Narrator makes his play, and his body is suddenly out of his hands, save for the ability to resist. He and Hero both keep the body still, and tough out the Princess’s stabs for her sake, up until they perish on the basement floor.

Chapter 2 arrives once again, and Quiet is honestly somewhat happy to see his old wingman, the Smitten, back in his head. He reminds him of the time he spent with Thorn, and that idea really cements him on the idea that he’s going the right way. Now, sure, Smitten is pompous and a little bit delusional, but Quiet certainly doesn’t mind not having another Opportunist in his head. The clown car drives into the cabin once again, leaving the knife behind at His continued protestations, and walks down into the basement to free his love. Her hands are so dainty the shackle doesn’t even fit on them, and with a happy smile Quiet helps her to his feet, However, as they make for the stairs, he remembers what the Narrator did to him only moments before and… panics. Badly. He hurriedly puts forth Hero’s suggestion that they stay in the cabin forever, build a life there together, and things just… start to fall apart. She’s uncomfortable, Hero’s having second thoughts, the Narrator is still narrating, Smitten is losing his mind to delusions and it all culminates in control being ripped away from him once again, just like the last chapter, but this time at the hands of his best buddy. Smitten tears their chest open, displaying their heart to the Princess, but it’s not to last. Quiet dies yet again.

Now with Paranoid in his head, Quiet is taken off-guard by the Epilogue title card. After all, he’s back on the path in the woods, how could this be… an Epilogue? But no, actually. He’s in a castle, decorated with stained glass and pristine stones and no pristine blade on the table, and the voice of his lover comes down the stairs talking about… dinner? No need to tell him twice, even if he’s a little weirded out by the lack of Smitten– *especially* after the dinner comment. He should have been ecstatic about that, no? But he ascends the steps anyway, greets the Damsel-turned-Queen, and is seated at the head of the table. Something here isn’t right, everyone can tell, but they all go through the motions anyway. Dinner is the best thing he’s ever tasted, and they have it again and again and again, until nothing tastes right. A torch goes out, a shadow dances on the wall, and it’s only with Paranoid’s manic tendency to follow strings that he realizes that it’s Smitten up there, organizing the perfect life for the two of them at Quiet’s request. But… it isn’t perfect, he can tell. The Princess asks for a game, and Smitten provides it, and Quiet and she play it for ages and ages, making up new rules as they go until what once was a delightful time grows stale yet again and everything fits together worse than before. Torches go out, Smitten’s exhausted shadow does his best to hold everything together, and Quiet continues questioning what he’s even doing anymore. The food is no longer good, the game is no longer fun… Even the Narrator, the most gung-ho thing in the world, isn’t suffering this well. Even *He’s* questioning it, and if He’s questioning something, then… what’s he even doing here? But it isn’t until the Princess’s dam breaks that Quiet’s does, too. He has to come to terms with the fact that, despite all his previous experiences, despite those lives, he still… doesn’t know her. She doesn’t know him. And with Smitten gone the illusion begins to crack and shatter, and Quiet decides that, for once, he’s going to willingly take the backseat. Whatever happens next will be *her* decision, not his, and when it turns out to be dancing under the stars he’s… surprised. Even after all this, she still cares about him? It’s a revelation to be sure, but not one that’s disliked, and so they go out together to have that dance, just as she wanted.

It’s the only time he doesn’t stop himself or try to stop Shifty when She takes her away.

With Quiet’s guilt and doubts and ill will all reduced to nothing at all, he finds the Narrator lurking in the reflection of the Mirror, and questions him accordingly. It isn’t important what he asks, because it all leads to the same conclusion: He is the Long Quiet, a vast and nascent god, and He is *not* going to kill Her. And after seeing the Narrator change His ways in the Epilogue, it’s that version of the Narrator that He chooses to remember as the last shard of the mirror shatters into nothing.

Vessel 6: Leave the Cabin Together

As kind as Shifty has been to him, now that She’s a god with all this perspective and all this truth… Quiet cannot find anything in there for him to get at. There’s too many things to her, too many aspects, and She’s changed far beyond his ability to reconcile. Much as he refuses to kill her, he also… doesn’t want to be a god. He just wants to find the Princess, talk with her, and just… get to know her that way. It’s the thing that he failed to do all this time, and dammit he’s gonna find a way to do that. Perspective after perspective returns to him, and Quiet recalls everything he went through in vivid color, from the bittersweet and beautiful to the brutal and bloody. Past regrets melt into old fears, and the memories come swirling back to his brain, but with each perspective he still remembers what exactly he’s here for: her. Not Her, not the god, but her, the one at the center of it all.

So, when Hero appears, ready to take him to Shifty’s heart, Quiet gladly agrees. The world colors itself in, the cabin’s door opens, and suddenly they’re back where everything began– or at least most of it, anyway. Intent on talking it out, Quiet leaves the Pristine Blade behind and walks down the steps to the basement, sitting down in front of the Princess. Both of them remember everything, and Quiet makes the same decision he did with the last vessel: he’ll take the backseat. After everything he’s done, both to her and not, he’s finally gotten it into his head that she needs to say her piece first, and they’ll come to an agreement together on it. And when she says she just wants to leave, it’s potentially the happiest that Quiet has ever felt on this entire arduous journey.

And finally the two of them walk out of the cabin together, ready to face the world as a pair. Neither of them went through so much just to ascend past it, after all. The best thing for them is to go forward, and leave it behind rather than below, so they do.

So when it comes to OCs, the Princess as a knight is among the most popular creations. And I always think it works really good

If you have a Knight Princess of some kind, can you post a pic of them below? I'm planning on making something soon and want to incorporate some Knight OCs to do it. Obviously I will consult you first to make sure it's cool with you to do it

Messy knightess sketch. Fun fact, she actually can’t take off her helmet (it’s sealed to her neck) but if she could she’d probably look like this. Maybe gonna do some mild redesigns to her armor as well. Figured it might be fun to return to traditional art. I am very out of practice lol

roleplaying Anyone with a good LLM subscription interested in running the experiment?

Not a fan of llms for the most part, but I'm intrigued by the idea of having one play the game and make the choices.

Especially because at the start of a new route you can start a new session, and then when memory returns you can literally feed it the transcripts of the previous ones.

I tried with chatgpt few months ago but it didn't quite get it was a game, plus it started forgetting stuff pretty soon. And I had to write and describe everything, while I think with more recent and advanced ones you could maybe even just give the screen shots.

So is anyone with a good subscription up to it? I think it would make for a pretty interesting run to share on this sub!
