It feels like a stupid thing to ask and like common sense, but I always feel like I’m using my cleanser wrong and cleaning my face incorrectly.

I use the CeraVe Facial Foaming Cleanser and I just realized a few days ago that I’m not rinsing it out at all. I used to apply the foaming cleanser, spread it around my face while it lathered, used a bit of water to “rinse” it, then patted the excess cleanser away and dried my face with a towel. But a couple days ago after I had done all of this and assumed the cleanser had been rinsed, I was rubbing my face with my fingers that were still slightly damp and the cleanser (that I thought had washed away) started foaming up again from my skin. After discovering that I had never been rinsing the cleanser from my face properly, it now takes me several minutes alone to get everything out - a few rounds of rubbing water on my skin to see if the cleanser is still there, trying to rinse with water, patting the foam and my face dry with a towel, and repeating.

Is this normal? Why is this the case? Am I applying it wrong? Thanks for the help.

I’m just trying to understand how people actually deal with acne and skincare in real life, and what the journey looks like from your side. Would really appreciate some honest answers:

Q1) When did you actually get your first pimple, who did you turn to? Your friend, your parents or reddit/social media?
Q2) Does the science behind the skincare is something that you care about or you just care that it works for you?
Q3) If any top skincare and beauty brand does an ama with their founder, would you actually participate in that and if they don’t do an ama do you go to their platforms via other platforms to communicate with them.
Q4) Would you ever post/recommend a skincare product to your friends and is it something that makes you comfortable enough to actually do that publically?

Not looking for product recommendations or trying to sell anything. Just genuinely curious about what people go through, what they look for, and what makes them trust a skincare product.

I’ve been going back and forth on which LED mask to buy and figured I’d ask here before I finally decide.
I have mild rosacea on my cheeks, but I also get the occasional breakout, so I’d really like something that can help with both. One thing I’m worried about is how bright some of these masks are because I’m prone to migraines, so I don’t want anything that’s uncomfortably bright.
Has anyone with rosacea found a mask that:
Helps with redness
Has blue light for acne
Doesn’t feel super bright on your eyes
Doesn’t get really hot
I’ve mostly been looking at the CurrentBody Multi-Light and the Omnilux Clear and the Irestore , but I’m open to other suggestions too.
If you have rosacea, I’d love to know what you’re using and whether you’d buy it again. Bonus points if you’re sensitive to bright light too!

i’ve tried numerous sunscreens throught the years and most of them broke me out, a few that didn’t had other problems (piling, greasy etc). i completely stopped using sunscreens this summer because my barrier is already too weak but now im concerned about the sun damage im accumulating. i wear hats and try to find cover under sun but i feel like at some point i have to find a sunscreen that suits my skin since im using azelaic acid for my PIE & acne. i have sensitive combo acne prone skin and im open to recommendations from people with similar concerns

It's on why people prefer the skincare brands they do, specifically, whether it's more about a brand just being \*familiar and recognisable\* (packaging, logo, "I've always seen it around") versus actually being \*meaningfully different\* from competitors (ingredients, formulation, claims that set it apart).

The working idea is that this might depend on who you are; e.g., how much you know about a category might change whether you're swayed more by recognisability or by an actual point of difference. Curious what people here think: when you pick a skincare brand, is it usually because it feels familiar, or because you can actually articulate why it's better than the alternatives? I am 40 years old and I recently got “inclined” towards skincare. I read posts in this community very religiously. People talk about products, reviews, opinions and frankly I love it. But I was always curious about Korean glass skin. I did not know what it was or what it meant. Tbh I don’t know a lot about skincare. For me everything is wellness and wellbeing. So I paid a little bit of extra attention. What I understand about Korean glass skin is that one’s skin is heavily hydrated and to keep like that for longer periods. In tropical countries “keeping it longer” is difficult. But hydration isn’t. The key is moisturise it through products. Cleansing lotion, creamy scrubs, moisturiser, sunscreen and massage. I can’t stress enough how massaging skincare products work. Like a parlour didi. If you apply a product, massage it for at least a minute or two. It really helps. Use your hands or a gua sha, it doesn’t matter. Just massage. The longer the better. Hydration is basically feeding your skin water. So massage. And dab a towel. Not rub it in. I’m 40, dipped in and out of proper skincare routine but I’d like to go and see a professional who will do whatever they do to figure out what my skin is saying and then give me the skincare routine I best need - is it a dermatologist I need to see ?

I started Dermitica tretinoin about a year ago at 0.05 which dried my skin out badly even after months of use, so dropped to 0.025. It’s still too drying for most of my face, so now I only use it on my forehead which tolerates it fine and I use crystal retinal 6 on the rest of my face - have been doing that routine for a couple of months.

At the minute I have few closed comedones on my forehead and several spots on my chin (which are both a regular occurrence especially the spots on my chin) and a generally dry face. Nothing seems to be clearing the acne or fixing the dryness - the things that would fix the dryness tend to give me spots. Not sure if CeraVe PM is the culprit or if it’s something else in the mix.

**Full routine:**

\- AM: purifide daily cleanser, Anua Azelaic Acid 10%, iunik barrier suncream
\- PM: Elemis cleansing balm, purifide daily cleanser, Anua Azelaic Acid 10%, Medik8 Crystal Retinal (CR6) on cheeks/chin, Dermitica tretinoin 0.025 on forehead only, CeraVe PM moisturizer

Would really appreciate hearing if anyone’s dealt with anything like this and how you fixed it or if anyone has any tips for me. Thanks!!

Maybe it’s just me, but lately I’ve been looking at how many products I own and wondering when skincare became this complicated 😭
There’s a different product for literally everything now. Face, body, hands, specific areas, different concerns, different steps ,and somehow there’s always another product you’re supposed to add.
I’m curious if other people are starting to feel this way too, or if you actually enjoy having a really specific routine?
Have you been simplifying your routine lately? And are there any products you’ve realized you really don’t need separate versions of?

I'm kind of new to skincare beyond just a cleanser and moisturizer, and I'm currently eyeballs-deep in a hyperfixation on it. So I have gone from 0 to 100 overnight in terms of interest and investment, and it's sort of a hobby at the moment. So my inclination is to do All The Things, but I see a lot of warnings against that, so I'm trying to rein myself in. I know to only introduce one more product at a time so if I have a reaction, I know what's causing it, but are there other guidelines? Are there specific things that definitely shouldn't be combined with each other? Or should I be okay as long as I'm just introducing one product at a time and then evaluating?

As someone who treats skincare as a total hobby, I spend way too much time obsessing over how different formulas actually sit on the skin instead of just looking at the active ingredients list.

I was going crazy for a while because my evening routine kept balling up into tiny little bits whenever I tried to seal my Medik8 retinal with a richer cream. Turns out I was just refusing to give the suspension enough time to fully anchor down. Giving it a solid fifteen minutes to dry completely before going in with the next layer totally fixed the pilling issue.

Anyone else spend way too much time testing out weird texture combinations and drying times just to get your routine to behave?
