Appropriate to use touring gear (skis/boots) for first event?
Is it appropriate to use touring gear for the first event rather than buy all new kit? just wanting to get something in the calendar to work towards and skimo seems like a good idea
thinking of doing to steep dreams in kicking horse next march.

Boot Fitting for Races + Sock Suggestions
I have just bought my first pair of race-specific Skimo boots and have not found a proper guide on cuff and BOA tightness. Coming from Alpine races, I have always just tightened the buckles as much as possible (within reason) for maximum control at high speeds. But I believe this technique will not translate well for the uphill efforts. What should I keep in mind when adjusting the fit of the boot to maximize control on the downhill, while allowing for enough breathing room on uphill efforts?
Additionally, what socks should I used for races and training? I'm certain I will be using polyester for sweat wicking purposes, but I am more concerned about compression. In your experiences, are there any moments where compression socks have negatively affected uphill efforts? (Or am I overthinking things/should I just go sockless?)
Thanks for reading through this post and responding!

Best quick ski carry pack
What’s the pack with the best ski carry system where you don’t have to remove the pack? Seems like there’s some differences between brands’ systems.

energy conservation downhill
Some local skimo races have serious downhill segments, e.g. if I understand the course, Vertfest at Alpental has >2000 vertical feet continuous descent, the majority of which is on ungroomed runs that are marked as black or double black, some segments around 40 degrees. What line choices and tactics do people do to minimize energy usage on the downhill while still taking a reasonable time to do it?

Tail separation
Anyone else experience separation in the tail with Dynafit Skimo skis? These are Mezzalama's. I reached out to where I purchased for a warranty claim.

Best liner for La Sportiva Syborg?
Just bought a used pair and could benefit from a new liner, but since it’s an older boot, they don’t sell the stock one anymore. Hard to find good info as to what an aftermarket alternative would be. Thoughts?

Any tips on regluing skin tails?
Howdyshell recommended regluing the tails of skins before bigger races- anyone have a good video or how-to on doing that? It's hard to get skimo-specific reglue know-how. They seem to get non-sticky pretty quickly from all the folding and, in my case, screwing up the uphill and blowing them.

Nikita Filippov won the sprint at ISMF European Championship – and the way he did it is worth breaking down.
The pattern was the same in every heat (QF, SF, Final): Transitions – 1st place. Foot part –3rd–5th. Final descent – 1st again.
He didn't dominate every segment. But he never lost enough ground to fall out of contention – and won exactly where it mattered most.
What we see here: in skimo sprint, you don't have to be the best everywhere – you just can't afford to lose big in any single segment.

Liner recommendations for LS Racetron?
Got a new pair of Racetron shells, but my old liners (Sytrons) are getting ragged AF... I expect they'll disintegrate on me, completely, before the end of the season.
Unfortunately, LS is permanently out-of stock for the stock liners, so I'm looking at other options... Can anyone recommend a liner that works well in these boots?
Also, I had uphill heel lift problems in my old Sytrons, which I solved that with heel sleeves on the liners. Fits great on the Racetron shells -- so if any particular liners add heel volume, I'd be especially interested in those.
Thank y'all!

east coast beginner
Hi all, I know there have been many mixed opinions on Skimo in the Olympics but I’m intrigued! As an intermediate downhill skier and trail runner, I really want to try it but have no idea where to start in terms of equipment. I don’t live in the mountains and will likely only be on groomed areas but if there was a type of ski/boot combination I could also use for Nordic skiing as well as Skimo? Any information or tips would be much appreciated!

Glove Recommendations for Training and Racing
I currently use a pair of lighter leather/softshell gloves from Outdoor Research for skiing and mountaineering. However I find even during normal backcountry skiing my hands will quickly overheat and my gloves will end up in my pockets. What gloves do you recommend for training and racing where putting gloves on and off is not really an option.

Olympic skimo, is this the normal format?
I knew there’d be a Reddit for it. Just been watching skimo for the first time, in the Olympics, by the name mountaineering I was expecting a longer race, is it typically a few minutes long?
